Line 6

A multi-effects pedal with 16 high-def amp models, 100+ M-class effects, and plenty of I/O.

POD HD500 represents a giant leap forward for amp modeling. It is the only multi-effect pedal that boasts 16 brand-new, state-of-the-art Line 6 HD amp models, 100+ modern and vintage-styled M-class effects, and a comprehensive digital and analog I/O.

HD amp modeling: sound and feel like never before
HD amp models defy the accepted standard. They feel, behave, and interact with previously unachievable realism.

Creating these new HD amp models was no small feat. Line 6 mixed 15 years of amp modeling experience with 3 years of new research and development to build an entirely new amp modeling technology from the ground up. During that time, we hunted down 16 incredible amplifiers and—with the help of LA's top tube amp experts—restored each one back to peak condition. The new modeling technology uses 10 times more amplifier information than before, including single-ended class A tube stages, class AB push/pull interactions, power supply behavior, and more. The result is a high-quality warmth, feel, sustain, and articulation for you to fall in love with.

Tube amp fanatics have long enthused that their favorite stacks and combos aren't merely "amps," but instruments themselves, with playability equal to that of the guitar plugged into them. New HD modeling takes the POD HD experience to that same exalted level, capturing the genuine playability that great guitarists demand.

Your amp collection—now in HD
On the POD HD500's menu is a collection of freshly modeled amps, many of which are brand-new to POD, and all of which are essential for performing guitarists who require a wide variety of tones in one streamlined, multi-FX-sized package.

100+ M-class FX
Made famous by Line 6 M13 and M9 Stompbox Modelers, M-class FX have found their way into the hearts of many musicians. POD HD500 features a whopping 100+ M-class effects to craft your sound. With this wide tonal palette to play with, you can sound like anyone under the sun, or no one but you. You can also use up to 8 FX at once.

•19 delays (including cool tube and solid-state tape echoes)
•23 modulations (including both blackface-style opto and brownface bias-modulating tremolo, phasers, choruses, and rotary speakers)
•17 distortions (classic stompbox distortion, to vintage fuzz, to thick metal chunk)
•12 compressors and EQs (including stomp comps and studio tube compression)
•26 filters (including wahs and several exclusive custom filters)
•12 reverbs (from surfy springs, to studio plates, to cutting-edge digital room sounds)

The power of this collection is truly mind-boggling. In addition to these classic sounds themselves, POD HD500 functions as a fully featured looping, pitch shifting, and harmonizing machine. Ready to start creating? This rig could keep you going for a lifetime.

Unprecedented flexibility—stunning simplicity
Beyond the mere depth of the amp and FX models, POD HD500 offers flexibility to mix and match amps and pedals in multiple pre-set rigs, attainable at the stomp of a switch.

Scale from an instantly routable signal chain up to the flexibility of a MIDI switching system and beyond, (even compiling several rigs within the POD HD500's memory, storing a full rig per "slot" with total flexibility and direct access).

The engineer's behind POD HD500 made it easy to access its deep programmability. Smart FX make it a snap to quickly dial in your tone, and the free, easy-to-use editor/librarian software supports your deepest, darkest tonal explorations. POD HD500 was designed by guitarists for guitarists.

Comprehensive connectivity for live and studio use
Put simply, POD HD500 connects to just about anything and everything—analog or digital, balanced or unbalanced, for amplification or recording.

A snapshot of the back panel shows 1/4" and XLR outputs (mono/stereo), USB, MIDI in and out/thru, S/PDIF out, FX loop (mono/stereo), guitar, and mic aux ins with mic level, Variax connection, expression pedal input and a L6 LINK jack for seamless integration with Line 6 DT50 tube amplifiers.

Edit and organize and all your sounds via computer with the included editor/librarian software (works on Mac and PC).

Built like a tank
POD HD500's cutting-edge technology is kept safe within a "bulletproof" bent sheet metal housing with heavy-duty metal footswitches and expression pedal. No injection-molded plastic boxes here—POD HD500 is ready to lap up years of road and stage abuse and keep you playing.

Version 1.3 Firmware update now available!
Power-boost your POD® HD multi-effect with an additional six HD amp models and five amp parameters – all for free in firmware update v1.3.

To get v1.3 just connect your POD HD via USB to your computer, run Line 6 Monkey™ Intelligent Updater and follow the instructions.

Firmware update v1.3 includes six HD amp models based on* channels from three classic American combos (the “Vibrato” channel of a Fender® Deluxe Reverb®, the “Vibrato” channel of a Fender® Twin Reverb® and the “Bright” channel of a Fender® Bassman®), two British half stacks (the “Normal” channel of a Park 75 and the “Normal” channel of a Marshall® JTM-45 MkII) and a high-gain Line 6 original.

Five additional, fully adjustable amp parameters don each new HD amp model (and will be added to the HD amp models you already have). Further customize essential aspects of tube amp feel and behavior with Sag, Hum, Bias, Bias Excursion and Master Volume.

Meet the new HD amp models:

Blackface ‘Lux VIB
The “Vibrato” channel rounds out the HD model based on* the classic combo that’s considered by many to be the ultimate studio amp: Fender® Deluxe Reverb®.

Blackface Double VIB
Fender® Twin Reverb® is an all-time classic of biting twang and shimmering clean tones. This model is based on* a Fender® Twin Reverb® “Vibrato” channel, which is a separate preamp circuit with clipping characteristics that are different than the “Normal” channel due to an additional 12AX7 tube stage.

Tweed B-Man BRT
Based on* a Fender® Bassman®, the amp that started it all – instant rock and roll tone. This model is based on the amp’s “Bright” channel, which provides a different voicing from the “Normal” channel by utilizing the second half of the first preamp tube. (The “Normal” channel uses the first half only). High frequencies are increased due to the addition of a bright cap across the volume knob.

Brit J-45 NRM
This model is based on* a Marshall® JTM-45 MkII, which marked the beginning of the distinctively bright and crunchy sound that Marshall amps are known for. The “Normal” channel is adept at big, bold clean tones.

Brit P-75 NRM
Based on* the “Normal” channel of a Park 75, a Jim Marshall-designed amp that enjoys cult status for its powerful Plexi-style tones. The “Normal” channel delivers a slightly darker tone than the “Bright” channel, a model of which already appears in POD HD.

Features:

One stop shopping. I was looking for something that sounded REAL and had everything all together...this is it! Line six has come a long way and I love their higher-end products. This thing sings...research it, salivate over it, buy it!! This isn't the digital sounding pre-amp from the 90s...it's awesome!!!

Quality:

I've had this for about 11 months and after hours of home practice, band practice, and gigging...still holding strong. No issues what-so-ever.

Value:

imagine what it would cost to buy all the things this does as individual pedals? For the cost of two or three quality pre-amp/stomp boxes, you have it all!

Overall:

It's awesome. Like us humans, it's not flawless...but still awesome.

Major likes: Everything in one pedal; multiple wahs to choose from; comfortable to use; direct out to board with no amp needed; direct USB interface with computer/recording software!

Kinda-cons: Only 48 second max looper. This is probably plenty, but I'll always want more.

One recommendation: Be prepared to have it sound different in your headphones or direct recording than through your amp. Just about every amp will modify or "color" the sound so that awesome tone you spent time perfecting for your recording is "lost" to everyone else when pummped through your amp. If your running into a power amp and extension cab you should be okay...but if you run it into your combo amp you may be surprised. Don't get me wrong, it's managable still will sound great, but it is different. That may or may not buy you...it did me. I just ordered the Tech 21 Power Engine 60...supposed to be the way to go to address this.

Conclusions: Make the investment and bite the bullet...get one. It's worth it!

My new best friend

Features:

The Pod HD500 has everything a player needs to gig or record. Plenty of great sounding amp choices and processing to tweek the sounds. Most of the features are easy to use right out of the box or in a few cases after a read of the section of the manual dealing with a particular feature.

Quality:

Within the purpose this pedal is designed for it should hold up like a tank. Seems as solid as the most robust equipment I've ever owned. If it breaks when you do "this", then don't do that.

Value:

Considering all that can be done with this pedal and it's price, it is a solid value.

Overall:

I had this thing set up and running a full night of sets for a gig in three days of receiving it. The other members of the band loved the sound (as well as the audience), especially the aspect of the patches sounding "like the original" (it's a cover club band). It goes direct to the board then into 2 Bose L1 w/2 bass bins and an additional 2 bass bins driven by paklite amps on each side of the stage. The software is ideal for organizing sets and getting patches to sound the way you want them to quickly. I've tried it through a combo amp into the power amp input and the sound was genuine with a nice presence. Does every amp sound like the real thing? No but the amps adjust like their actual counterparts and most are very close to the ones they're going for. The assortment of virtual rack and stomp effects get the character of the amp sound right where it needs to be. With a little time and understanding of what this unit does I was able to get the sound I was looking for in just about every instance. If your having difficulties with it there are plenty of resources on line at the Line 6 site and other forums. Dig a little deeper and you will probably be able to clear up the confusion. As for me, I'm going to go play!

POD HD500

Features:

The number of amps and effects gives you a lot to work with to get the sound you want or a variety of sounds to suite your needs.

Quality:

Heavy duty construction. At first I thought the expression pedal switch was broken but then I realized I wasn't pressing down hard enough with my toe to activate it.

Value:

I'm sure everyone knows the the Gear Syndrome where someone thinks "If only I buy this one more piece of equipment I'll be able to play like (insert your guitar hero here). Mine is Hendrix by the way.

I've played for 40 years with different amps and guitars and effects pedals but never really had the sound I wanted. After a week with the POD HD500 I took a facotry preset for the 45 watt Marshall amp and inserted the new updated 1959 Plexi Super Lead 100 watt head, turned off the the suggested speaker cabinet to use my own speakers, switched the microphone to one I liked and boom. Just what I wanted. I had to crank up the sound to get the full effect. Low volume is good but higher volumes are better to hear the nuances.

Overall:

If you have the money and location to buy and store a number of amps and effects, you might not need the POD HD500. I would hate to give it up now as it's become the single most important item in my search for the right sound.

It took me a couple of days to understand how to set up the amps and effects but now it's easy and quick. The factory has software updates so you will get new sounds to work with in the future.

Worth the investment

Features:

Broad range of features.  I think the Boss units might have a few more weird effects, but the only thing I am missing is a good acoustic processor... which might be there, and I may simply not have found it yet...

Quality:

Generally good, but I did kill my first one.  It wouldn't boot, but was exchanged on warranty, and the new one has been flawless.  Switches, knobs, pedal all seem to be good quality.

Value:

Not cheap, but you do get what you pay for.

Overall:

If stolen, I would buy another immediately.  The flexibility to program, computer software interface, dual XLR output, and sheer flexibility of the system has made the HD500 essential to my musical experience.

All the cool sounds in one box.

Quality:

Well constructed.

Value:

Well worth the money.

Overall:

This has got to be the best multi effects processor out there for this kind of money.  There is a small learning curve, but once you figure it out and learn all the tricks, you will experience nothing but pleasure.  Disregard the opinions of fools who won't take the time to sit and program in the right sound.  The presets are crap like most effects processors, but they give you a great starting point to begin tweaking them to your own style.  Also, I recommend you get some sort of padded carry case when you plan on going from gig to gig.  Afterall, its an electronic device and needs to be handled with care.
