I could write pages of good things about this but I'll do this the shortest way possible, this is a huge step up from the pod 2.0.the big decision maker for me was I had no way to record perfect studio quality, this is in my budget and once I set it up I'm regretting the years of not buying this... you can tune to any tuning , you don't have to drag around 30-50lb amps, you can go between 65 pre-made tones or make your own out of any combination of amps and presets imaginable, worse comes to worse download off the site.I've owned 50 watt marshalls and all that but this alone gets a much better tone even through a clean channel with a beginner 10 or 15 watt amp, I'm no beginner guitarist and I know exactly what. I'd recommend this to beginners and pros alike , see it to believe it and remember it takes more than just this to achieve your guitar gods tone, have fun and the most unlikely combinations of effects can make or break your sound, I put a lot of hard earned money into this and would recommend this to anyone from a jazz player to black metal this does it all and more.

Playing this extensively for over a month you go from really loving this and never knowing what you did without it to realizing why all our guitar hero's don't use these on the road or in the studio.. it really has nothing to do with endorsement contracts either although the odd line 6 pedal can be awesome. But in the long run I thought this would help me record an albums worth of guitar tracks I was really mistaken. If you're playing without an amp you'll NEVER get that perfect clean tone when you record on your computer, metal doesn't have enough headroom or in other words sound full enough no matter what you do in Line 6 edit or use inside the studio using the usb drive to record no matter what head and amp combination also. The "tones" we download off the site for free for the most part aren't worth it although say fear of the dark and war pigs where awesome.. keep in mind the people who make them are you and me , we all don't have the same guitars and thats a big thing and we're really taking shots in the dark to see if the person has an actual ear for music.Line 6 has the WORST customer service in the guitar industry by the way, whatever you do if you buy it used DO NOT activate it you'll lose all your modeling packs the previous owner put on them giving you more amp simulations , effects and so on... at Line 6 they don't care they want you to buy the stuff again. This and the line 6 pod 2.0 are great to practice with and write new riffs.. thats it, but the usb recording on it can be so much better, everything sounds too digital or fake. Its a step up from webcams and those special cables you put into your microphone jack but theres a reason you buy studio microphones.

Not worth the money

By WiFiGUy

from Mid-Atlantic

Comments about Line 6 POD XT Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

I bought one of these a couple of years ago and have had nothing but problems with it. It's a cool little device but it's not made to last. My POD's problems appear to be power related, sometimes it turns on, other times no-way. I've contacted Line6 tech support with not so much as a reply. I've posted to their POD forums, I've called and e-mailed their repair guys and still nothing. Hit their support site and take a look at all problem posts. Then look at the number that have a big fat zero in the replies column. These things are expensive throw-aways when they go belly up, purchase them at your own risk. I'm going back to good old standard stomp boxes and pedals.

The best amps and effects in one place

By zahm

Comments about Line 6 POD XT Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

At first I was skeptical about buying another multi-effects unit after my Digi-Tech's slushy performance. Anyway, this unit is worth every penny. Plus, Line 6 sends out free updates for it frequently. Every guitarist needs a Line 6 Podxt!!!

Marvelous!

Comments about Line 6 POD XT Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

The only competition for the POD line may be the Vox Valvtronics. All other "modelers" fall a bit short compared to the tone of this thing. A real tube amp will sound a bit more open and lively, although you almost have to put them side by side to hear it. My only beefs are 1, wish it had pitch shifting and/or detune effects, 2, more adjustments for the wah-wah's and 3, the remote foot controller is WAY overpriced (but it works perfectly). I have tried the POD through a stereo tube power amp and in the effects loop of a tube head (just for effects) and it sounds amazing either way! And it records great, as they claim it will. Highly recommended!

An Excellent Buy

By Wildbill112

Comments about Line 6 POD XT Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

I've been playing guitar for 10 years and I'm constantly trying to achieve a wide variety of tones. This thing can pull anything off well. You can't go into using it and expect the amp models to sound perfect. Work with them for what you need and this will become the main part of your rig.

Line 6 POD xt review

Comments about Line 6 POD XT Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

In the world of analog sound, its the only thing that might compete with many drawbacks of analog electronics. This little thingy sounds more or less natural when playing through pc speakers. Besides that, PODxt has by far the best recording quality I have ever heard. The sound is so juicy and thorough. I mean you can avoid buying expensive audio interfaces - just plug in to the pc and record through the USB.Easy as that! Of course "live" cranked-up Marshall stack sounds better and more dynamic but this thing is so easy to tweak, I mean if you want to do some little recording projects(demos), then buy this thingy immediately.

Very useful

By Anonymous

Comments about Line 6 POD XT Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

This is a modeling and recording tool. It's very useful to have around, especially if you are interested in getting into recording. This unit is very nice, at times you can feel the artificial characteristics of your clean tone, and you can hear your notes die off early if you're using the internal compressor. But overall, I've heard some people make monster mixes with this thing, it's useful, reasonably priced and every thing's layed out for you in the software. I don't see how you can not like this product.

Nay-sayers - buy the Shortboard!

By O'G

Comments about Line 6 POD XT Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

You cannot unlock the true power of this unit without the FBV Shortboard. I have since used the awesome software to set up my PODxt to my liking, grouping presets into logical groups then using my Shortboard to switch through them all on the fly...in my bedroom or at a gig. Those who say you can't gig with this have not done 2 things...1. modified all the channels so their output volume is consistent and 2. purchased the Shortboard! Man that thing unlocks the PODxt. Also...pick up the extra model packs for another 100. WELL WORTH IT!! The tones coming out of this are not bad at all and you have tons of them. I run my PODxt into my all tube Swart Atomic Space Tone and it sounds beautiful. Don't expect it to sound as good through a solid-state but through headphones or a nice tube amp...it's amazing and versatile and only 300 bucks! I've had mine for over 3 years now with no problems. I just picked up the Shortboard and can't believe I waited until now to get it. A must have!

Be careful with the phones

By Dan--Lqmt

from Colorado

Comments about Line 6 POD XT Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

I like this little box. It's got a ton of cool sounds, which are all tweakable on the fly. I haven't downloaded any patches yet but intend to check that out. I like that you can add reverb, delay and a whole host of other stuff as you play. It's easy to get the sound you want.CAUTION! If you are using headphones just be aware that when you switch between patches the volume level goes back to 100% regardless of how low you had it set. So if you're playing some jazz at about 40db and then switch to the next patch just know that it could blow your head off. It is loud enough that it's shocking and dangerous IMHO. So be careful. I turn my guitar's volume knob down to zero before i switch patches with headphones on. Overall a good buy. Check it out.

Not For The Metal Heads

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

Comments about Line 6 POD XT Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

Trust me, if you are a metal head, this pedal is NOT for you. This pedal is great for blues, rock, and stuff that does not require high gain. It's got some great tones, but mostly acoustic sims and clean tones. I actually don't even know what to recommend...I thought this was the "be all end all" pedal!

Comments about Line 6 POD XT Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

This is a good tool to have if you record at home or perform small gigs. I've had mine since 2005 and had to replace the power adapter which was inexpensive. Recording in Logic is super easy and the sounds are good enough. For about the downpayment for a car, you can get an AxeFX and sound 20% clearer :)

I've plugged this into the power-amp in on my solid state fender and sounds ok with the right eq adjustments, not much headroom with a 60watt solid state. Also plugged into the fx loop in my mesa for just the fx and sounds pretty good. I've also run direct to PA which was noticeably fizzy on the high gain stuff, didn't have time to mess with eq much. And direct to the church sound board via direct box and the cleans sounded fine.

I do drool over the new stuff that has come out over the years but I keep trucking with the pod xt. It's versatile, decent sounding and reliable.

I've tried the RP360 and the sounds in it were nice but I couldn't justify keeping both since they do similar things so I sold the digitech and kept my pod.

I find myself wasting time researching new stuff when I have something that works fine and may not be the newest and greatest but it does the job well. I plan on running this thing to the ground before I purchase my next amp modeler unit.

    Recording King

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Comments about Line 6 POD XT Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

I bought one of these after trying numerous combos and pedals looking for tube metal type sound and just not finding it. I used version 1.0 to record some stuff in Cakewalk and the more I listened to it the more I said, "you know, that already sounds like I want". I finally returned the Boss Metal Zone I had bought and paid the difference to get the POD XT. This thing is great. It has a bunch of amp models which can be modified to sound like you want as well as built in edits of popular sounds. The only thing I wish this one had is the XLR output that the X3 has but it does have balanced TRS 1/4 outputs which works just fine into my mixer. I love my POD and will use it for recording for a long time.

Comments about Line 6 POD XT Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

I read hundreds of reviews on the POD XT and monitored the boards at line 6's web site before I took the plunge on this and an OLP MM1 for X-mas. I'm just getting back into guitar playing after a 16 year hiatus, and I am completely satisfied with it. The tones are exciting and varied. The VOX AC30 is sweet, the Solo 100 is spine tingling. I highly recommend it as a basement jammer. Definitely download all the free updates... you'll be well pleased.

Comments about Line 6 POD XT Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

This unit is outstanding. It is very easy to use. Digital recording sounds excellent with little mixing. You can definitely get any tone you want or need. Not to mention that you can also go on line 6 custom tones and have a variety of tones to download that have already been tweaked for you. The price is excellent. If you have the money and want something with great tone capability, then don't hesitate. This product is great.

WOW! What else is there but WOW?

    By Turnip-bY6A-

    from Tacoma Washington

Comments about Line 6 POD XT Guitar Multi Effects Processor:

I don't normally rant and rave about products because when you buy some new gear, you always have to take the good with the bad. THIS IS NOT THE CASE HERE! I've been a full time 7 day a week musician for many years and as you can imagine, I have gone thru some gear. Remember Digitech? Nice factory patches but lacking in durbility. BOSS gear is what I ran last ( GT-3 ). GOOD but not exactly what I was looking for. Now, I sold the GT3 to my son and bought this PODxt. I HAVEN'T EVEN OPENED THE MANUAL and already have it tweeked. Talk about being self explanitory. If you're a person that likes to hear patches sound like the CD, then get this unit. AMP modeling, ease of use and the ease of editing patches make this unit a real winner.PS: The thing is built sturdy too.
