I've been playing guitar for over 20 years & I know a thing or two about guitar tone. My friend owns the Spider Valve MKII 40 watt combo and he let me try it out at his house. I was blown away!!! My prior experience with Line 6 was the original Vetta amp that my other friend uses. That amp is solid state which I'm not a big fan of. Amp simulators, in my opinion, are like a tub of margarine. Sorry but it's not like real butter. The richness, texture and creaminess are all missed with solid state amp tone, at least at normal full band jam volume levels! So needless to say when I plugged the Spider Valve MKII, I could not believe the tone. Now, the amp is not perfect, but it's the closest thing I've witness. Being a full tube amp, you get all the tube tone, only with a hint of the solid state tone from the on board effects processor. And with all this amp does, I can live with that! I quit using my Mesa Duel and also my JMP head since I purchased the 100 watt version head. Beautiful cleans, Thundering Gains, Blues Twang and all points in between. It pretty much eliminated my effects pedal board as well. Well all except for the Deja Vibe... There's no replacing that pedal! All in all, I'm a huge fan of the amp and I can't believe that Line 6 won me over. BUT THEY DID!!! THANX

I bought mine in 08' and loved it. It has a killer sound and I could emulate any amp out there. I had been using Marshall's for years, and bought this for the versatile sounds and on board effects. I gigged often, and outside for four years with this amp. It will get as loud as you need. Tubes will out last most amps out there. After four years the output was still above 85%. Here is the deal... The front panel will go out. It took four years. You cannot buy a front panel if your not an authorized dealer. I started hearing a surge at low volumes and the channels started changing on their own. With four channels, it is a lead players dream. Mine is a boat anchor now. The pots are not of good quality. After two years, I had to set the volume and forget it. Which was cool with the foot pedal. At four years, the pots were gone. You cannot replace them on your own, because you can't find them. They are brand specfic and can only be bought through Line 6. The pots are thin and don't take cleaning well. Almost no help. So, if you can afford this price and gig a lot, expect about four years of life out of the pots and get ready to dump half the cost for the front panel. The XLR output quit after a year, which I just stuck a mic in front of the cab. I have been waiting on the NEW front panel for ten months.

Comments about Line 6 Spider Valve HD100 MKII 100W Guitar Amp Head:
The amp is so very versatile and thus by that very nature it is a little bit hard to get started looking for your tones. After a few practice runs making your own user presets you will be making some serious tone come out of this head with just a tap of your toe. Do Absolutely Get the short board with this amp! It is the key putting all this thing can do together and then to control it all from your front line stage position. Just from exploring the different amp models and effects you will find your mind swimming in new tonal ideas. Reinhold Bogner knows how to make great tube amps sound great and this amp sounds great! It has plenty of power to rule the stage and also has a very versatile line out that can be set to send to either a live PA (feed from output transformer)or to a studio board (tapped off the DSP). I prefer to mic off the speaker myself but would have no problem using the line out if a mic was not available.
In conclusion get this thing on top of your 412's and let it rip!!! Just think you can have unique preset for every song that your band does set up specifically for what ever guitar you are using. You will love being able to repeatedly reproduce the exact tone you want each and every time you want it and back up all those tone settings on your computer so that you will never lose them ever again. Sure it is a little work on your part to get this amp setup properly, but, once you do get it right I don't see how one could ever go back to a to carrying around multiple amps and effects to cover all the different music you play when you can have it all in this one small package. If you are looking for a head that can cover any genre with any guitar with the exact same results each and every time get this one. Get it now!!

Comments about Line 6 Spider Valve HD100 MKII 100W Guitar Amp Head:
When I found out the amplifier was made in china I was somewhat reluctant to buy it, even though the sound was and is beyond amazing.
I was worried so much about reliability but eventually purchased it. Now, the band I play with, we have a van that we use to get the shows and back. This van is gives an extremely bumpy ride and I thought for sure after a couple shows of this abuse the amp would have some kind of issue. And nothing, still after months of abuse it's still holding up. It's caused my other guitarists' tubes in his amp to go microphonic once already, but this amp's tubes are still holding strong.
While I do plan on buying a case for this head, I can't stress enough about how reliable this head is. For the musician who gigs, quite a bit reliability is a monstrous factor.
On terms of sound, like every other review will tell you, it's amazing. Totally unlike any other Line 6 amplifier, a lot of the Line 6 amplifiers i've played have sounded dreadfully horrendous, especially at stage volumes. I've played a myriad of Line 6 products and this amp is definitely among the top few items Line 6 offers, in every way.
There isn't a bad thing I can say about it.
I've showed it to 3 friends who play guitar already and so far 2 of those 3 have already bought one, the third waiting for the funds to buy one...
This guitar amp is worth plenty more than what it goes for, by far.
Do yourself a favor and purchase this amplifier, I can almost guarantee that your search for that perfect tone will end.
Comments about Line 6 Spider Valve HD100 MKII 100W Guitar Amp Head:
I really can't say enough good things about this head. If you update the firmware, it has just as many effects and tweaks as a pod. I have a Schecter Hellraiser, Schecter C-7 Standard and a Fender Strat, and I can dial in pretty much any sound I want with any of them. The value is absolutely incredible. I was torn between this and an Axe-FX II, and I'm very satisfied with my choice.
Comments about Line 6 Spider Valve HD100 MKII 100W Guitar Amp Head:
I'm mostly a studio musician so having an amp that gives me a couple different sounding amps on it is a lot cheaper than buying 2 or even 3 other amps. Its still great for live shows to.
PROS:4 channels4 different high gain amps plus 2 crunch (Mesa Dual Rec and Diezel Einstein for example)Master Volume and Channel Volume (sounds good at lower volumes)
Like a staight up tube amp it holds its tone at high volumes4,8,12, and 16 ohmn outputLooks coolHas a presence knob which is really nice for customising that perfect metal toneTones of low endCONS:You need the switch pedal to save your settings.Without the pedal when you switch to different channels or distortions to volume spikes super loud.
Its pretty well built.Heavy for its size.Volume know crackles when make subtle movements. Not sure if thats typical or just my amp.
The Diezle Einstein is one of my favorite amps. Its just such a unique distortion with lots of gain yet super eat to hear notes. However the einstein is about $4,000 and has a reputation for not being road worthy. Soooo once I found out that one of the models in this amp was an einstein I had to get it.

PERFECT. Read the above.
This thing has tons of features. The Built in tuner is amazing to say the very least. The noise gate, as well as the TONS of effects make the bill. Not to mention the tube power. It's like walking into a knife fight with an M249 SAW. You will win.
The Amp is composed of very durable materials. The weight alone suggests it has a sturdy build. I would trust touring with this amp one hundred percent. It has a very high cosmetic appeal unmatched by those trashy looking boxy amps. This thing glows. How could you go wrong? It's like nutella versus peanut butter. Nutella always wins.
For the money, tube power, and all of the endless possibilities you can get out of this amp that will ultimately put your very own tone on roids, this thing is too good to pass up. I would never go back on buying this. I love it. It ups your stage presence, and increases your tones ability to make people cry tears of joy-fear. JOY-FEAR. Buy this amp if you want to own good.
Comments about Line 6 Spider Valve HD100 MKII 100W Guitar Amp Head:
My post below did not do the features on this amp justice. Yes, my post is the one below this one that gave no stars for features. That was a mistake. I think I speak for everybody when I say Line 6 never had a problem with versatility and features. It was always the tone that would lose its character at high volumes. I turned this thing up for a moment just to see what it would do and it retained its integrity...like tube amps do...as well as made me want to leave the room. Startling to say the least. Careful...turn the master and channel volumes down anytime you swicth presets, then ease them back up after you change. It reverts to the volume levels that were programmed into the amp presets everytime you switch. This is the third day I have had this amp, second time I've used it. I ran it for about 5 hours the first night...3 so far tonight...and it isn't cutting out or doing any of the things previous posts made me worry about. It is quality so far...and believe me I let the sucker get hot!!!! Bad ass amp!!! The digital/tube marriage will keep improving...can't wait for the next version...and I'm glad I didn't buy Mesa or Engl so far.
Comments about Line 6 Spider Valve HD100 MKII 100W Guitar Amp Head:
I took it out of the box and nothing was wrong. I plugged in and it blew my head off. No quality issues...no touchy master volume issues...no fuzzy distortion...you gotta tweak it!!! This is your amp! If you ever wanted to own your sound, this is your chance. The digital/tube combination will continue to expand...technology will not stop just because a bunch of people who think they are progressive want their sounds never to progress. I looked through the back off this amp, and there truly are tubes. Saw them...true tube amp. It sounds wicked. In four hours I made this beast sound like an angel. I have not even read the online stuff...I may never. I got clean heavy, articulate, pronounced Armageddon with this amp...only four hours later. It spits FIRE.
