If you've ever faced the problems of booming (or too thin) bass, acoustic feedback, "quacking," nasal sounding treble, or clicking picks, you will welcome this marvelous box. On my very first gig with the Baggs, I told the sound man to set the board flat and let me handle the EQ. With just a little experimentation and adjustment, I was able to boost the bass to the point where it was full but not booming, eliminate quacking and feedback, and balance the sound on my Taylor GS7 across the musical spectrum from low to high.

When the sound man called down from the booth that he could hear my picks clicking on the strings, a few tweaks of the mid-high and presence knobs dialed that right out, without sacrificing volume or clarity on the treble strings.

Admittedly, it's a bit tricky to master the somewhat complex settings on this sophisticated device, and the minimal instructions provided by Baggs don't help as much as one would wish. But there are some helpful videos on YouTube, and with a little experimentation you can get this box under control.

I love the sound that it lets me get out of my guitar, and can't imagine that your experience would be any different. It's also extremely rugged -- built like a tank, in fact -- and should stand up to a lot of on-stage use. I can't imagine ever plugging in without it.

From reading all the rave reviews, I expected an extraordinary piece of equipment. Not so. I was planning on using it with my mandolin, and if it worked out, I'd think of getting another for my D-35. All the different settings did not accomplish much as far as reproducing a natural sound of the instruments. When pushed, I would get barking and distortion. I tried reducing the gain to less than a quarter and still it overloaded. I have a couple of different Fishman preamps that are far superior. Needless to say, I returned it.

Comments about LR Baggs Para Acoustic Guitar DI and Preamp:

I have used many pre-amp, EQ, direct boxes. I have an LR Baggs Venue DI and I didn't like it. The tuner was squirrelly, the boost was useless with no tone control and a tiny volume knob on the back that was impossible to adjust on the fly. I got the LR Baggs Session pedal which I am loving. The compression and saturation are awesome but it has no EQ so having seen many of my friends use the Para Di, I got one and it is better then the Venue Di. The EQ is spot on for acoustic guitar, it is built like a tank with a very professional appearance. I go into the Session pedal, then a Exotic A/C pedal for a boost on solos, then into a MXR delay, then into the Para Di, from there I go from the Di balanced out straight into a QSC K10 sitting sideways on a tilted amp stand. With this I get an awesome amplified acoustic sound. The only thing I would add to the Para Di is a power adopt. input but that's just because I am not going into a mixer but straight into the QSC which doesn't have phantom power.

Comments about LR Baggs Para Acoustic Guitar DI and Preamp:

I received this preamp for Christmas and I could not have been more pleased. I can use it for playing at home as well as playing shows and the sound is consistently great. I use it primarily with my fender acoustic which is set up with an LR Baggs M1 soundhoule pickup and this system works great for me.

Comments about LR Baggs Para Acoustic Guitar DI and Preamp:

Well you know how some people are when it comes to amplifiers on stage for church worship services. They don't want them because they think everyone will start cranking up and jockeying for sound. So I bought this direct box. Its amazing! You will like it a lot. I plug my acoustic guitar straight in and then send it to the house speakers. We have a Presonus 32.4.1 AI mixer in the new building. My favorite thing about this is the eq settings. I can dial in a sweet tone, my settings are bass at 2oclock, mids at 2 o'clock and presence and highs at 1 o'clock. Gain at 12 and volume at 3. This box is really all you need. I don't like tinny trebly sounding acoustic guitars. The bass and mids are wonderful for balancing out some highs and giving the guitar a "fullness". This box sounds very realistic. It is a very good representation of how the guitar sounds unplugged. I have a B Band pickup under the saddle so i have never had any frequency issues. I don't use the notch. I also use a TC electronic arena reverb pedal. Make sure you send the acoustic into the Para DI first and then to the reverb pedal or else it don't sound good. You can do this by getting an effects send return 1/4" cable and using the FX jack on the DI. Nice feature!! I will say i think this box sounded better on the old analog mixing board at our church, but I'm sure we can tweak it to the Presonus. Our church just moved from a 14,000 sq ft building into a 30,000 sq. ft. new building and new sound system so the room is playing into effect also. You need to keep this in mind. The old room had 12 ft. tile ceilings. The new building has 40 ft. ceilings. I think it sounds good coming out the house but it still sounds a bit digital in my headphones. Especially the b and e strings. That has more to do with the digital mixer though i think.

this little preamp is an amazing tool. Have 3 acoustic guitars with 3 different pickups-2 active-1 passive the LR Baggs Para preamp vastly improves sound clarity and tone. If you have sound hole, under saddle, passive or active pickups this para preamp is way to go. very portable and great low cost for what you can achieve with it.

Love the fact that you can increase or decrease the frequency of an individual string. This allows you to get a really hot signal without feedback. I use this every Sunday as a worship leader with my Taylor and it sounds great.

Comments about LR Baggs Para Acoustic Guitar DI and Preamp:

Noticeable difference in sound quality and realism of acoustic guitar sound through the PA. Switching from my MOTU Ultralite MKIII preamp to this is like using another pickup, and the MOTU doesn't have a bad preamp at all.

I use K&K Sound Pure Western Mini pickups, and this DI/Preamp box is the best possible match for it. Had one with me in India, lost it, and finally bought another one. Forgot what I was missing out on. It's like the guitar is right there, where the speaker is, but so much louder.

The notch filter is useful, but not ideal. It scoops a lot out. The balanced out, unbalanced out, and fx loop are all very useful features. Perfect for wiring to all kinds of strange setups.

The L.R. Baggs Lyric is a very nice and useable option for guitarists trying to get that miced guitar sound when plugging in direct. I still prefer to use it with their Para Acoustic Preamp/DI, but even without, it sounds fairly natural. Was relatively easy to install. Time will tell how it holds up, of course.
