This is a great device. I highly recommend. IMHO it is a bit over priced. But make no mistake it does a great job and is built a little better then most other similar devices.

It REALLY ought to come with an AC power supply/transformer... it does not and on that note... if you choose to use an AC power supply/transformer as opposed to 9V batteries all the time... THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT

WARNING WARNING WARNING
This device requires an AC power supply/transformer 9VDC w/100mA (or 1 Watt Min)

THIS IS THE IMPORATANT PART
The POLARITY IS BACKWARDS from about 90% of the rest of the world.

The POSITIVE (+) must be on the outside of the tip and the GROUND (-) on the inside. BE SURE you purchase and/or use the correct power and plug configuration or YOU WILL FRY your new Venue DI Direct Box.

That's just another reason it should come with a factory supplied power supply.

I love L.R. Baggs stuff; I think they make the best pickups on the market. I really wanted to love this DI, but it just didn't live up to my expectations. The tuner is sub-par (it seems like people have been complaining about this for a while now; why haven't they done something about it?). And it seemed like no matter how much I tweaked the levels, there was always a little bit of a boxy sound in the high-mids. I used it with some older Fishman electronics in a 2002 814ce, a Baggs M1A in a Yamaha FG730, and a Baggs Lyric in a Martin 00015m. I did think that it maintained a natural tone to the guitars (it sounded best with the Lyric), but the boxiness got to me. It's also quite large, so if you're putting it on a pedalboard, you will have to get/make one with plenty of room. I compared it with Fishman's new Platinum DI, and I ended up choosing the Fishman. It sounded a bit more processed, but overall the tone was smoother and clearer. I was very biased toward the Venue, but in the end Fishman won for me.

The pluses to this are that it is very well built (rigid), and it's a good looking box. I'm sure others would love it, but it wasn't for me.

Very Well Thought Through, A Bit Overpriced

By Danny Carvalho

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Acoustic Guitar Direct Box and Preamp:

This is among the best acoustic DI's I've used. The build quality seems about the same as the Para DI?I actually prefer the feel of the knobs on the Para DI, these feel a little cheap in comparison. What separates it from the Para is that this is a COMPLETE PACKAGE?it has everything you need, besides maybe dual inputs. Playing through the Venue actually helped me get a better sound out of my Para, because the VU meter allowed me to get an optimal gain setting. The added hi-mid control makes a huge difference, because the brightness of an acoustic guitar usually comes from the 2k-2.5k freq range, which is covered by the Venue and missing from the Para.My biggest complaint is the price. The Para DI is less, and an additional tuner is cheap?add a boost and that?s still less than the Venue. That said, the features are very well thought through, and I would recommend it if you don't already have a tuner and a Para. But if you have those two, it may not be worth the upgrade.

A Smart Little Box

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Acoustic Guitar Direct Box and Preamp:

The L.R. Baggs Venue DI is a lovely, warm sounding pre-amp; the output is quite hot, and the operating noise level is much lower than the old Baggs Para DI(which I've been using for years; hooray! no more hiss!). Perfect EQ, really. The tuner is blindingly bright, and easy to read once you get used to all of the flashing lights. I find the effects loop a little too hot for the stomp-box compressor that I use, making it difficult to set a good level without totally squashing the signal; putting the pedal in front of the Venue's input worked better than the loop. I also would have liked the Venue to have been able to operate on phantom power. In any case, it sounds fantastic with my Martin D-28 equipped with Schatten HFN pickup system. I also use it with a variety of other guitars, fiddles, and mandolins; it loves guitars, but also has the versatility to handle the others with equally fine results.

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Acoustic Guitar Direct Box and Preamp:

I was hesitant at first to buy the Venue, because of its price. But I've had good luck with the Baggs PADI, and I needed an onstage tuner, plus a way to switch between my instruments on stage noiselessly. The Venue satisfied all my wishes and then some. First, it's a wonderful pre-amp. But more, it's a great onstage tuner- very easy to see and use. Plus, with its signal cut-off when you hit the tuner button- it lets me play 3-4 instruments with just one cord, and change between them effortlessly and noiselessly. If that wasn't enough, it has an adjustable volume boost pedal that lets you kick it up for leads. I love my Venue!

MUST HAVE!!!

By bbjb22-HJ_bP

from Climax, GA

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Acoustic Guitar Direct Box and Preamp:

Just got the Venue DI for Chistmas. This unit is a must have for any acoustic guitarist playing in front of any crowd, small jam sessions, or recording. The EQ is great, has ground lift switch, great gain control with meter to show input level, battery gauge is very handy, boost footswitch is awesome for solos or intimate picking parts, and the tuner/mute footswitch is awesome! The tuner is extremely accurate and is very bright. This unit, again, is a must have. It gives you all the control and options you need with any acoustic setup, and is cheaper than buying individual pedals to make up all the parts and features you get with this one unit. And the bonus is that you still have some control over your rig and not just the soundman. Also, it is built like a tank and the carrying case that is included is a great bonus.

I am a mandolin and guitar player. I have read a lot and done a lot of research throughout the interwebs on a solution for getting the most drive and natural tone from my mandolin especially. I got to try it out once and was very impressed.

Our Folk Rock band is loud and I play a lot of leads, so feedback and cutting through the mix is tough. I soldered a K&K twin pickup to a 1/4" internal jack on my Breedlove mandolin (Which are conveniently crafted in the factory for future retrofitting an internal jack...genius!). Superglued the piedzos to the body internally under the ends of the bridge.

Running it through this pre/DI balanced and gave me the control I was looking for. Stoked!!

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Acoustic Guitar Direct Box and Preamp:

I use this for an electric violin and it solved all my sound related problems.

First of all the Equalizer is amazing. Electric violins usually have very metallic sound and very hi treble, and it's hard to balance it out with a normal amp. with the EQ on the Venue DI I made it sound like a classical violin.

My second problem was that my instrument has a passive pickup and that results in a very low volume. The gain and volume controls gave me a lot more sound than I expected without loosing quality even when using the boost button.

It's grate that It has line out (that I use for my amp) and a balanced XLR output to pug in to the sound console of wherever I'm playing. I love the fact that the direct box, Eq and preamp are all in one because I control how I want my instrument to sound without having to carry extra equipment (just the Venue DI and my amp). All I tell the sound guy is to send it to the main speakers and I don't have to depend on him for it to sound good.

One of the main complaints that I have read is that it dose not have a power button. technically it's true, but if you unplug the cable from the input (that is the cable that goes straight from your instrument to the venue) it powers off, even if it's plugged in or using battery.

My 3rd try to submit my review- why not publish the ones that aren't so glowing guys?PROs: boost is okay, boss 9v powerable, has DI and adjustable gain structure. Transparent acoustic toneCONs: boost could be more than 9db, could use a second quarter-inch out, EQ does little to change the tone, TUNER IS EXTREMELY SLOW and not very useful and I have an electric acoustic with a very strong signal/pickup. This unit is overpriced and not all it's cracked up to be. Sent it back. MF good about returns, as always, at least.

        Great product

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Acoustic Guitar Direct Box and Preamp:

i am using this di with a gibson songwriter, and i'm very glad i spent the money on it. the natural sound of my gibson is so amazing, that i've often thought about using mics to amplify it for live performances. however, due to the nature of the music i play and the others on stage with me, this is way to impractical. i find that with all the eq options of the lr baggs venue di, i can achieve sounds MUCH closer to the natural sound of my guitar when running through an amp or the PA. i've tried a couple other preamps, and di boxes, and this one is my favorite by FAR. the boost is plenty loud enough, (not sure why another reviewer rated it sub-par). i agree that a second input would be an awesome addition...provided you wanted to use the same sound mix for both instraments. my second on stage instrament is a banjo however, but being able to hit the mute switch on the venue di when i put down my guitar is a must for me...and the tuner is right on and a great addition as well.

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Acoustic Guitar Direct Box and Preamp:

I bought the "LR Baggs Para Acoustic Guitar DI and Preamp" several years ago and what I liked the most is the immediate difference in the sound quality. I love pedals that you can plug in and play with little tweaking. The "Venue" proved to have the same quality with added features. The features on this unit are great. The separate volume control from the 1/4" output for running an amp while going direct to the board from the line out is an amazing feature. My house has old wiring and electrical noise is totally eliminated with the ground lift. I use this unit every Sunday to record a live televised church service and the sound crews at the "live" mix and the separate recording boards compliment the great tone and ease with the mix. I use an A/B box to switch between a classical and steel string and the tone and response are superb. Only drawbacks are that it doesn't come with a power supply and the tuner is a little slow

It's easy on batteries, quiet, musical and works for me.

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Acoustic Guitar Direct Box and Preamp:

Let's try this again. For some reason, my negative reviews get "lost" here sometimes. This box is overpriced and does little to EQ the tone on my Ovation. The boost is adequate, but could go louder for subtle leads and does not ad any gain, which could be desirable for some. I personally like a little more gain when boosting up for acoustic leads. The tuner is VERY slow to respond and does not work well with any bass noise present in the room. It's bright and pretty, but not very useful. This thing would also benefit from a second 1/4 inch out to feed a vocal harmonizer(like the vocalist that uses the guitar signal to read the key off your guitar). PROs: DI out, transparent sound, may be decent for passive acoustic pickups with no preamp.CONs: overpriced by at least 100 bucks, lousy tuner, boost is so-so, EQ does not seem to do much.BOTTOM LINE: When someone makes a product that actually does what they say it does, I will buy it and keep it. This one is not the pro-level wonder they are claiming it is. SENT IT BACK.

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Acoustic Guitar Direct Box and Preamp:

The Venue Direct is paired with an LR Braggs radius PU in a mandolin. All this run through a Marshall AS50D amp.
The layout of the EQ was a little different but once I read the direction it was super easy to dial in the sound. The Preamp works great. EQ is accurate. The only odd thing was the control for the boost is not on the face of the unit. Tuner works fine and is easy to use.
Structurally this thing seems very solid and the controls are smooth and have a qood quality feel to them.
Our group, The Captain Ledge Band, is a recording and festival band that also does some small venue shows. We've recently had a video in rotation on ZUUS Country. (just to give you an idea of where this is being used.) At times we run all the instruments direct especially in smaller venues. I've only plugged this in direct once just to test it and it preformed as expected. We're very pleased with this.
I first became familiar with the Venue Direct when I saw another musician using it in a fairly large festival situation. I had the opportunity to ask them about the unit and they were VERY satisfied. Yes, it cost a little bit more more and you'll definitely want to buy a power supply but it's worth the money.

A fantastic DI. The venue is a great tool for the stage. It is durable as a tank. The tuner is a little slow but its still great to have at your feet. The boost is a great feature. I have used this with over a half dozen guitars on several different PA systems and its very handy at dialing in your tone for whatever stage situation you might be in. Highly recommend.

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Acoustic Guitar Direct Box and Preamp:

I'm pretty low-tech and still learning my way around adjustments for live sound. Initially, I leaned toward the Para DI, but didn't want under-buy my needs, and the additional adjustments and pro features made it worth the extra coin. This is more dynamic than the para DI (boost switch, and mute/tuner switch) and it lets me leave my tuner at home.

This has been an easy way for me to hear the differences in isolated adjustments. Paired with the Baggs Lyric mic system, this thing is great. Large knobs make for easy use, built in mute and tuner work great for me. Very low noise. Adjustable boost up to 9db adds drama and punch to face-melting acoustic solos.

Really, it's all I'll ever need and construction seems like it should last a long time. For the money, it should come with a plug-in transformer so you can save the battery for when you really need it.

Works great for me, and you'll like it too. It costs more to go cheap because you end up buying again later. Do it right the first time.

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Acoustic Guitar Direct Box and Preamp:

This box is exactly what it claims to be- a very easy-to-use direct box with plenty of variables for dialing in your sound. I would have preferred that this unit have a low-z output option like the regular L.R.Baggs direct box that we all use.
For the price, that should have been a no-brainer.
Outside of that, this is a GREAT direct box. Highly recommended.

Comments about LR Baggs Venue DI Acoustic Guitar Direct Box and Preamp:

I REALLY DO LIKE the mute, the tuner, the eq/effects, the illumination, the sturdy switches, the size and shape.

I REALLY DO NOT LIKE there's only 1 input (s/b 2 inputs), using batteries, there's no power supply included (for this price a really nice power supply should be included),

If you look at what nearly all acoustic players are using, weather its guitar, mandolin, violin etc, they are using this. Go figure, I've tried many and landed here.
