Hand picked components and extreme care make all the difference in this distortion.

Today the evolution continues with the Malekko EKKO 616 MKII effects pedal, a full featured yet compact delay with external modulation controls, an optional buffer, internal level pot and 650ms of pure analog bliss! Not content to leave well enough alone, Malekko decided to go through every aspect of the acclaimed EKKO 616 to see how it could be improved. Every detail was scrutinized, data sheets compared, parts swapped and hours of listening followed.

The E616 MKII’s specially voiced repeats allow a larger bandwidth to pass than most traditional analog delays. Turn the mix pot all the way up and the repeats will be near unity with the dry signal. The regeneration pot will take you from a simple slapback to a nice gentle decay of a few repeats, then take off into outer space with just a turn of the pot! Engage the modulation button and the EKKO 616 MKII takes on a whole new personality, from subtle chorusing or beautiful vibrato to way beyond. Choose between true bypass or buffered bypass. The EKKO 616 MKII’s revised buffer circuit is smooth and transparent, even with many pedals on your board. Tired of annoying volume drops? An internal trimpot (labeled “gain”) will allow you to set the EKKO 616 MKII’s level to your specific setup. All of these changes add up to a cleaner, richer, sweeter, more flexible and musical analog delay.

Features

  • The modulation range has been massaged to allow much finer tuning for a more balanced overall effect than before
  • The MIX pot now allows louder effect levels
  • Improved buffering circuit
  • Redesigned protection circuit for enhanced component safety

Comments about Malekko Heavy Industry E616 Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

Bought the 616 MKII with really high hopes, but realized after about 10 minutes that it doesn't sound anywhere near as warm and ambient as my trusty Carbon Copy. Then Makekko has some great features, including speed and depth modulation controls which are accessible without opening up the case, but the repeats sound artificial and sterile to me. The Malekko would probably be good for a darker voiced amp, but it doesn't sound good with my Soldano SLO at all. High quality build, just not my cup of tea.

Comments about Malekko Heavy Industry E616 Analog Delay Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Mk.II takes all the qualities of the original Ekko and improves them while simultaneously correcting the first iteration's shortcomings.

My two big issues with the original Ekko were how it started oscillating far too easily and before you could enjoy the wash of repeats, and how the T/B either darkened or brightened the core tone.

These issues have been completely dealt with...the pedal can still oscillate if you want to play around, but it's much more stable and has beautiful analog decay and note wash out. The T/B is good either way and won't alter the original signal.

I had an MXR Carbon Copy and loved it, then I tried the original Ekko and found it to be more musical...now the Mk.II has dethroned my Mk.I as my favorite simple analog delay.

My only complaint is that the modulation gets a little too detuned too early in the range of the knob...I don't really use modulation as it is, but I feel there's only a very little bit I can use. Not a deal breaker though.
