OVERVIEW

Compressore is no mere stomp box”it's a state-of-the-art compression tool.

Markbass Compressore is a high-quality tube compressor pedal that features all the individual controls normally found on professional studio outboard compressors: gain, threshold, ratio, attack, release and volume. Not only designed for bass, this Markbass pedal can also be used with guitars or any acoustic or electric instruments, in either live or studio applications, thanks to its state-of-the-art component quality. The bass pedal's ECC 81 tube compresses your signal, evening out the sharp peaks of your playing in a natural, transparent way. At the same time, it also adds warmth and harmonics to your sound. Like all Markbass pedals, this one features "true bypass." So when the compressor is off, your signal goes directly from the input jack to the output jack without any degradation of audio quality.

While some compressor pedals offer individual control of nearly all compression parameters, the controls on most comp boxes adjust two simultaneously, and some only have a single "compression" knob. The Markbass Compressore features all the individual controls you would normally find on professional studio outboard compressors.

This pedal has everything I need for compression plus it gives me a really nice tube sound. I run solid state amps because they handle the road well and are cheaper to replace.

The Gain knob lets me adjust how much tube warmth I want which basically acts as a tube pre-amp. I love the sound of my bass when I play through this. It reminds me of vintage tube amps I've gotten to try but couldn't afford.

The compression is extremely smooth with no artifacting that I can hear. I've used it live and as my compression for recording. It took me no time to figure out the controls to really dial in how I wanted to run my compression.

I like to set my Ratio to about 1 oclock to take the peaks off my low notes and slapping and set the threshold really low to allow dynamics on quiet stuff.

Some advice if you get this and it "ruins" your sound. When you have separate Ratio and threshold, you need your threshold lower than your ratio usually.

After first plugging in and playing with this pedal upon its arrival, I failed to notice any real difference in tone. I figured maybe the fact that I was using my practice amp as opposed to my full gig setup may have had something to do with that. So I finally set it up at a gig, excited to hear what it can do. The sound is muddy, distorted, and the signal is weaker. The tone was so bad I wonder if my particular unit was broken or something. Through all my tweaking I couldn't make it sound better. I have since returned the pedal and plan to never use it again. If you're looking for a good compression pedal, look elsewhere. Something cheaper will likely deliver better results.

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

At first I thought it wasn't working, since the yellow LED never lit up. I borrowed an earlier model Compressore from a friend, and his worked identically. What I learned is that the volume from the instrument (bass guitar in my case) must be at maximum volume or near so, and with the Compressore: GAIN must be over half, THRESHOLD set low (making it very sensitive,) RATIO needs to be fairly high, and ATTACK set low, for early onset of compression. Then you see the yellow LED activate with playing. Adjust for optimum sound, then reduce instrument volume. You won't see as much yellow light, but the sound output is consistent, so I assume the compression is subtle, and the LED isn't always activated. Still need a lot of experience with this device, but no tech support available at Musician's Friend or from Markbass (they're in Italy and an email query yielded no help.)

Great control over your sound with this pedal. It allows you to adjust what gets compressed, and how much and for how long, from an in your face punched up sound to warm and smooth this this does it all.

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

This thing has helped smooth out the sound on my 6 string bass a ton. I personally use this as a means to compress my input from my bass to my amp, as my amp has built in compression to further balance out all the notes. It works just as good as a pedal as it does running it through the effects loop. Fantastic for both bass and guitar. The only downside is the obnoxiously bright blue light indicating it's on.

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

This is a fantastic compressor. I was looking for something that gave me fine tuning control over the compression settings, as I don't like noticeably compressed sound. Unless I'm looking to dial in a squash or want to run it as a limiter, I prefer to keep it always on to subtly balance out my overall sound. This pedal can make a dramatic difference in your overall performance without sounding "corrected" or affecting tone. As a big bonus, it's dead quiet.

Be aware that most websites (including Musician's Friend) are still showing the discontinued pre-2015 model in photos. What they are shipping is the 2015 model that is shown on the Markbass website. The new 2015 model is identical in performance specification, but the case is redesigned to be slightly smaller and a rather plain looking box. I was hoping to get the older version with the recessed knobs, but I guess the 2015 version does fit my pedal board a bit better. Which ever version you get, it's highly recommended, probably as one of your first pedals, second only to a tuner.

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

This is new package - it's slightly smaller and lighter and no longer has the controls in that channel. On the one hand they're easy to see and adjust but it also much easier for them to get bumped. The sound of this unit is really clean and the compression easily ranges for slight smoothing to total crush. The variable attack and release are also nice for keeping a little punch on the attack when your compressing heavily. I don't hear any pumping or other artifacts, just a really fattened up bass sound. As far as the gain and output volume controls, I'm finding it more practical to use the volume control on the bass for gain (gain will affect compression results) and a VV10 volume pedal on the output side to control total level. Very happy with it.

Comments about Markbass Compressore Tube Bass Compressor Pedal:

First of all, the reviewer that gave this one star sounds like he doesn't understand what a compressor does, so I would take that review with a grain of salt.

Excellent control of your compression with the ability to fine tune the threshold, ration, attack, and release, as well as gain and overall volume. This allows you to really custom fit the compression for your needs.

Once compressed, the quality sounds very good... does not sound digital or manufactured... just clean.

Running in bypass mode sounds very clean as well, there is no noticeable loss in signal.
