OVERVIEW

Monstrous bass tone swells from highly portable package for bassists on the go.

For bass renegades comes a deal that will make you smile. From Markbass comes an amazing amplifier package, featuring the Little Mark III bass amp head and the New York 151 bass speaker cabinet, offering plenty of oomph and pro sound features in a lightweight and highly portable amp head and stack.

Little Mark III Bass Amp Head
The Little Mark III amp head's DI input features a pre/post EQ switch and output level control, so you can optimize the signal you send to your mixer or recording unit. All this capability comes in the same compact size and weight as its Markbass predecessor. Weighing just over 6 pounds, it puts out 300W at 8 ohms and 500W at 4 ohms. The Markbass amp's 4-band EQ offers precise tonal control while a Variable Pre-shape Filter, Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator), balanced input for acoustic basses, balanced DI with level control, and pre/post switch make the Markbass Little Mark III a totally pro amp head.

New York 151 Bass Speaker Cabinet
Part of Mark Bass' New York bass speaker cab, this little powerhouse is the perfect extension for either the Mini CMD 151P combo or the CMD 151P Jeff Berlin combo. The bass speaker is also a great lightweight option for combining with any 500W Markbass amp.

This Markbass speaker series is named after the world's most famous city, where bassists often lug their rigs by subway or taxi to get to gigs. Because of this issue, Markbass set out to create a combo amp that had the power, but not the bulkiness of a regular bass combo. The end result speaks for itself. The sound of this bass speaker cabinet is smooth and warm, with sweet full range and a deep tone that extends down to 40Hz.

The Markbass New York 151 bass speaker cabinet features one 15" speaker, with 400W of power handling.

Comments about Markbass Little Mark III and New York 151 Bass Stack:

I occasionally reinforce small/medium gig sound with my own kick-drum monitor. This sounds MUCH better to the audience than running it just acoustically, or through the portable "café" sound-systems too many bands use these days (small-coned, plastic systems designed for guitar/vocals only). A speaker has to have a 15 inch cone (or larger) to accurately reproduce the solid bassy thud of a kick drum- otherwise you get a ringy midrange mess. For years I had been carrying a beloved Roland KC-550: it sounded great, but was wicked heavy (65 lbs) & had an angled front that made it awkward to carry... Throw in a back injury (equip loading) & I was in the market for a lighter solution to kick monitoring. Thank the god for Markbass! This system is HALF the weight & sounds Soooo much more bassy! I can plug my mic cable (xlr) directly into the amp (no mixer or power-sucking adapter needed) & emulate a huge pro PA sound myself. I angle it behind me to the left- it acts as a monitor & main-reinforcer. The LittleMark III also has an output, so I send the (volume adjustable) signal to the mains. The EQ knobs allow huge adjustment from dry & biting to a full on hip-hop electronic sound (using the "Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator " knob). It sounds great close to the amp, but even better as you get further away- the rear subwoofer ports are magic. I occasionally use a small Mackie sub-mixer to run other drums through as well, but for most club shows, only the kick needs to be reinforced (or the rest I run through the mains). I also use this stack for electric drums- It is pleasingly smooth sounding (the band complimented me the first night), but lacks a little of the high end compared to the KC-550 keyboard amp. This is not a bad thing, they sound more "natural" & less harsh through this amp. I wanted the more powerful (800w) version of this set-up for clarity, punch & headroom, but the price was more than I wanted to spend. I am pleased to say, the 300w seems just fine so far (I typically play it at 1/2 volume- 5 out of 10) for most shows, less for more dynamic bands. The stack is dead quiet (no hum/rattles). I am thrilled. Having a big, bass-heavy kick sound makes the kit & whole band sound better, and allows me to play more dynamically. Overall, it is not about making the kick louder, so much as bassier & bigger sounding. "The Markbass Little Mark III and New York 151 Bass Stack" is a joy to play through. I would buy it again. I recommend the Markbass Small Amplifier bag for the LittleMark III- it has Velcro to stick the amp to the cabinet so it does not bounce off.
