Big-time, fat output from a bass combo weighing less than 30 lb!

The Markbass Mini CMD 121P is a bass combo amplifier that gives you fat sound with electric or acoustic basses. That makes the Mini CMD 121P amp perfect for rehearsal studios or small club applications. The Markbass Mini CMD 121P comes with a built-in Little Mark II bass head in the top rear area. Bassists will appreciate the Markbass-designed Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator and Variable Pre-shape Filter which help give this Mini CMD a warm natural sound. The Little Mark II also has a Neutrik Speakon combo jack output that accepts both Speakon or 1/4" speaker cable as well as a second 1/4" speaker out jack so you can hook up to another 8 ohm cab for a 500W rig. You'll also find a balanced XLR out, unbalanced tuner out so you can tune as you play without passing your signal through pedals. A Send and Return Effect loop protects you from losing your signal if one of your pedals dies or a cable in the chain gives out.

Overall, I feel very confident in this purchase. Having played through many amps through the years, I've gotten to the point where hauling around a rig heavy enough to produce lots of sound just doesn't make sense anymore. The quality of the amplifier, combined with the extreme portability of the combo unit made this an easy, if not expensive, choice.

Given my limited experience with the amp, I'd venture that any situation outside of a small-to-medium sized venue would require the use of an extention cab. Alternately, the line-out (controllable by the Gain dial) makes it easy to run through the PA, using the cube as a nice, loud monitor.
All ofthe features you would expect from a giggable rig built into a small, portable, and VERY lightweight unit. 300w@ 8ohm/500w@ 4ohm Mark Combo II Head built into a near-cube cabinet. The amp is installed vertically, making access to the EQ a snap (not so much for the power supply and line out, which requires tipping the cabinet to access).
I have to qualify my rating by saying that I've owned this amp for less than a week. That being said, Quality was just as much of my buying motivation as ease of transportation. I played through every 300watt+ combo that I could before deciding on the Mini CMD 121p. It was really the only amp I could find that offered a wide range of tone (super-vintage to modern) without "coloring" the sound of the instrument. Each of my basses has a different "voice" when played through this unit, as opposed the SWR rig that I've been using.

The construction quality seems to be solid, but I went ahead and purchased the 3-year "Ruin it and get a free new one" warranty from GC.

The look is pretty dramatic with the yellow speaker cone and markbass logo. Band members laughed when I brought it to rehersal, especially the drummer. That changed almost as soon as I plugged in. Deep, clear and articulate, they were all suprised, and commented about how much more clear and transparent the sound was.

I'm not crazy about the carpeting on the cabinet, tolex would be nice. After the warranties area dead and gone, I'll probably replace the carpeting with tolex.
The price tag is not for the weak of heart. I don't groan about spending money on gear, though. I find that as a bassist, I play better when I sound better. The sound creates the value for me in this amp. I've found that I'm practicing more, and the unforgiving nature of the clarity has really tightened up my skills a bit. Even better, my electric upright sounds fantastic through this amp, getting me very dangerously close to the full, woody sound you'd expect from an Acoustic Upright. I almost bought a seperate amp for the Electric Upright due to my frustration of the way the SWR was coloring the sound. I'm glad I didn't!

I loved this amp - lighweight, warm. Add an extension cab for bigger rooms and it kicked ass. But......one day on a gig I experienced a power surge and it went completely dead on me. I took it to my repair guy and he was shocked to find that it has not even a single fuse to protect it from overload. Thus the entire board was fried and needed replacing. Luckily it was still under warranty, but even that was a nightmare and took months - not to mention I had to pay shipping. The authorized service center told me that MArkbass sent them a bad board as a replacement part and I might have to call Italy! Luckily they finally got a working part. Beware this bewildering design flaw!!!

MarkBass gear is the best I have ever owned. I am building a rig, started with the CMD 112 on top of a New York series 1x15 CAB. I WANT TO ADD ANOTHER 1X15 MB CAB. AND A lITTLE MARK 800 Watt head. The 500 watts I am getting seems to be enough for now..

Wow! What can I say!? I stewed on this lil beauty for weeks! I read review after review, researched similar product after similar product, until one day I decided and took the plunge. The price had me shuttering, I won't lie, it was a tough purchase to justify to myself. I was already playing on a decent ampeg combo with adequate results, only the thing weighed a ton! Banging into things which usually were myself, I decided that I'd had it! Im a professional female musician who is constantly going from gig to gig and was tired of lugging that beast around. The Mark Bass 121p is awesome! Hands down. The convenience/portability is unparalleled and the clarity/detail of sound is unbeatable. I play medium to relatively large gigs and with the built in direct out, i support my sound through the pa. You have to dial it in on this amp but once you find a tone you like you'll find yourself loving this amp more and more. And, I play 5 string, this puppy adds plenty of low end growl. Rich and warm tone, easy 29lbs? Do it, you'll never look back.

I bought this in August 2012. Just a few days past Musician's Friend's 45 day deadline for returns, the amp failed. It will no longer power on. Now, I have to send it back to Markbass for repair. This is the last Markbass product I buy.

I have been in the music scene for many years and for many years i thought someday someone will bring a bass amp to the table that can do the job without all the weight and bulk of the old school..Im amazed and excited that finally the day has come that we dont have to ask a friend to help us lift the bass amp out of the truck and into the gig..The sound is great to my ears..Markbass is the leader in modern bass gear..Just got my amp so I havent seen what it can do down the road but for now all i can say is" HOW SWEET IT IS"!
            User friendly features ..
So far it has been northing short of unbelievable for the size
Tad bit high in price unless it can take the long haul then its worth the money

just buy the Markbass combo amp already. its simple but you can get any sound you want. just do it!
just buy it. i had a gallien krueger full stack with the 1001rb2 amp head and good cabs. they sounded good but weighed a ton. (25lb head, 100lb cab and another 60 lb cab.)
this thing weighs 30 lbs and has the same power. i will be buying the extention cab so i can play bigger shows with it.i have never had to turn it up past half way. its perfect for somebody that does not want to take multiple trips to the car before practice or a show. and you will not be dissapointed. i recomed buying the floor wedge thing for it also. it was a night and day difference. it throws the sound right to your face.

            Just Buy it!
well built. good luck having your kids poke holes in the speaker/
yeah it is a lot but its not over priced for what you get.

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

If it holds-up I will be delighted. Who knows? Overall features connot be touched by anyone. Its small. Its cube-shaped. No unnecessary gew-gaws. Beautiful sound reproduction. Lightweight. Powerfull. Versatile. Perfect for Church or small club. Add an extension speaker and you could play outdoors or in a casino- its that loud. I love this amp.
I bought a floor model at Git Cntr last february 2011. Great deal and it's used, but so what? Its a Markbass. Lifetime warranty and all.
Fantastic. I love it. I love the looks of you. The lure of you, etc. Great sound. Versatile. Ligtweight.
Blows GK away. Very far away. Indeed there's no competition considering size/weight/bark/bite.
Price? Well, you gets what you pays for. Nice. Very happy. Then...
Past december I noticed a high-pitched whine. Somewhere around a high "D". Oops. Something's frying.
Took it back to Git Cntr. Sales rep tells me I got to go to the Markbass website an' they'll tell me where to take it for service.
            Huh?
I tell him to go to the website hisownself while I wait.
He's like yeah, OK, but these guys at Markbass like don't even answer the phones sometimes.
So I says why don't you take it in the back in your own service area and just fix it?
An' he says they aren't factory authorized.
This is in New Orleans. So, where am I supposed to send it, Houston?
At this point I might add that I am barking like a dog myownself.
So, they gave me a new one. Thank-you Git Cntr.
It produces a slight hum when turned-on.
Waiting for it to quit on me too. However, I've heard reports from other Markbass owners that their gear is top rate. Maybe I just had a weird experience. An isolated incident.
How can I give it a 10 when it quit on me within a year? It was a demo- but hey! These things are supposed to be built to last. And it looks and feels like its built to last. Military quality. It costs like its built to last. Mine didn't.
Mine was expensive. However: Lower-priced amps just do not sound, feel, respond like this one. Its a Maseratti. A Lambourghine. Unfortunately, you can't take it to Jiffy Lube for service.

            Powerful Sound - Small Package

            By William Serry

            from San Jose, California

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

The amplifier has an excellent, deep, powerful and resonant tone which can cut through the loudest accompanying guitar and drum playing. Much more powerful than it would appear - its amazing how much power and clear sound comes out of this little thing.

I initially thought I had problems with the amplifier after the initial purchase; however, it turns out my active pickup needed a new battery. This little amp is built like a tank, weighs next to nothing and can fit in the trunk of you Mini Cooper.
Its a bit overpriced, but hey, you get what you pay for.
