OVERVIEW

Big-time, fat output from a bass combo weighing less than 30 lb!

The Markbass Mini CMD 121P is a bass combo amplifier that gives you fat sound with electric or acoustic basses. That makes the Mini CMD 121P amp perfect for rehearsal studios or small club applications. The Markbass Mini CMD 121P comes with a built-in Little Mark II bass head in the top rear area. Bassists will appreciate the Markbass-designed Vintage Loudspeaker Emulator and Variable Pre-shape Filter which help give this Mini CMD a warm natural sound. The Little Mark II also has a Neutrik Speakon combo jack output that accepts both Speakon or 1/4" speaker cable as well as a second 1/4" speaker out jack so you can hook up to another 8 ohm cab for a 500W rig. You'll also find a balanced XLR out, unbalanced tuner out so you can tune as you play without passing your signal through pedals. A Send and Return Effect loop protects you from losing your signal if one of your pedals dies or a cable in the chain gives out.

All my other bass amps are huge and I needed something for practice and jamming. This is a great amp and great tone. The 12 is a good speaker with alot of XMAS but if you use lots of bass you can overpower it. I have an extension cab which is a necessity to have if you want to play at higher volumes. The worst thing is the cabinet is covered with rat hair (that nasty black carpet stuff). I have a dog and the mark bass is a magnet for dog fur. It is really bad and the dog fur gets embedded in the carpet. I have to put duct tape on it to get it off. This is a pleasure to carry at only 29 lbs! I can now get together with other musicians and jam or take up very little stage area. This is one of the newer MarkBass amps and was made in Indonesia It seems to have the same quality as one built in Italy. I also own a 2007 Little Mark II head and the new one seems just as good. I have a Greenboy fEARful cab with a 15 and it just blows the house down when it is connected to that cab and the MarkBass delivering 500 watts RMS. The CMD 121P is a great practice amp or small club amp, but you definitely need another cab to blow the roof in.

After years of my back enduring lugging around a GK head in a rack and a 4x10 cab, this little amp was a nice upgrade. Great, flexible tone palette; LOUD; and around 30lbs. The only issue I've had with it is that twice it's turned into a doorstop - crank it just a little bit and it shuts itself down. The first time was two weeks after I received it, I was playing an outdoor gig in July and it conked out after 45 minutes. I chalked it up to the heat and me driving it hard (although the gain/vol controls were nowhere near max). After a day of me letting it cool down, it started back up and worked fine. Second time was at during band practice at my house. Not driving it any harder than I had before (gain/vol at 12:00 position), and it just cut out and shut off. That was 3 days ago, and it's still not turning on.
After reading online about Markbass's (and other class D amplifiers') "sensitivity" to various elements such as electrical power condition and input driving, as well as Markbass's sketchy reputation in terms of service response (am I really going to have to wait several months to get my amp fixed?!?!), this may be the last Markbass product I buy. It's a shame, too, because my ears (and back!) really liked this little combo.

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

Great amp. Plenty of power in a really small and easily moved package. I use this with my "Frankenstein fretless" and it really brings out the natural "mwah" top to bottom. Also provides a lot more tonal variety with my cheap SX fretless backup. Main drawbacks: no built-in tuner (my previous amp did), no on-panel mute switch. I guess Mark Bass used to make a pedal switch for mute, but no longer available. This might be the last amp I need otherwise and I got a great deal...

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

        1. First off, I get a kick out of the folks that emphatically state there is a HUGE difference between the Indonesian and Italian versions of these little amps. Having the ability to compare them side by side, they are much closer than some may lead you to believe. There is a break in period, though. The big difference with these new 12 inch drivers is they are very stiff out of the box.. I broke in my cab by looping a bass heavy MP3 (Green Day Long View) through it at medium level for about four hours. Much more full sounding after break in then out of the box. I could see how some people would give them a bad review if they opened the box, hooked up their bass, played it a little bit, then just boxed it up and returned it. After that, when you compare them side by side, a couple little tweaks of the knobs and you can make the Indonesian version sound just like the Italian.

        2. The thing that really impresses me about these little combos is how huge they sound. I play a Dingwall 5 String Afterburners. They have a huge B string. The little cab holds up well in the mix. In a small bar with a reasonable drummer, it thumps along quite well. I have a Bergantino 410 rig for larger venues, but for the little bars, this thing worked great.

        3. My only disappointment with the combo is the pre-amp stage is noisy. It's very susceptible to the 60hz buzz of fluorescent light transformers and other RF noise. My B | Amp in the same environment is dead silent. (The Berg is a much more expensive amp though.)

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

Markbass no longer uses high quality B&C speakers and is using a much lower grade speaker. Musicians Friend advertises this amp having B&C speakers. I bought a non Italian made CMD 121 P and it never sounded right and the speaker farted out and distorts and not real high volume. I was very upset to hear it had a Markbass "Yellow Line" speaker in the amp I purchased from Musicians Friend. I tried it next to an older Italian CMD 121 P and it made my new amp sound like junk.

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I originally got this combo just as a practice amp, but when I started playing really tiny clubs, this this was a lifesaver. It has also been a real champ when I have had to use it instead of my regular "big rig" at festivals that had difficult to get to stages and short turn-around times. This combo can be loud when needed, and has a great, full tone. Also, unlike my TC Electronic bass combo, the amp has a speakon out so you can add an additional cabinet to get the full 4 ohm power out of the amp.

With all that said, I do have one major complaint with the amp: no mute switch. There is a tuner out, but a mute would be awfully handy. I have to turn the output gain down on breaks, when switching basses, and when tuning, and remember where it was set when I'm ready to play again. Not usually a big problem, but real bummer is when I'm sending a signal to an audio mixer or recording system. Without a mute switch, unless I turn the input gain down there will be a "pop" when I unplug one bass and a "pop" when I plug in the other bass. I solve the problem with a tuner, but a mute switch would mean less stuff to plug in and fewer opportunities for the bad cable gremlins.

If you are in the market for a great sounding, portable combo, this one is really hard to beat. Tone-wise, it's the best 12" combo I've played through. The sound is fantastic and it's crazy portable-what's not to love?

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I use this for practicing at home and will use for small venue gigs. The 4-band eq and the variable preshape filter stand out, I particularly like the sound of the latter. So far I haven't found much use for the vintage loudspeaker emulator, just sounds like a low-pass to me. The unit is small and light, so easily portable. I play both electric and string bass, and this combo can handle the latter as long as bass is tapered a bit at the pickup-preamp (and dialing in a bit of VPF makes for a reasonable string bass sound).

In my 40+ years of playing I've been through a LOT of gear. The CMD121p is the most common sense purchase a bass player can make. Very portable, great tone, and puts out a lot of sound. Add the NY121 extension cab and this rig will cover the bulk of any bass player's gigs. Highly recommend!!

Comments about Markbass Mini CMD 121P 1x12 Bass Combo Amp:

I play in a blues/rock trio and used this for practice a few days after it arrived. Dialed in a great tone within a few songs and never pushed the amp over 30%. I also purchased the New York 121 for gigs, but I probably didn't need it. I did use it because the mini stack looked cool and was easy to make adjustments because of the added height, but again, I barely had this thing turned up.

Plenty of stage volume and I used the DI out to the PA. Soundman said it was cleaner than the output from my GK MB500 head. After one gig, I'm really impressed.

Can't recommend this combo enough for it's power, tone, and portability. Tear down was a snap and I walked out the door with a cab in each hand!

Time will tell how reliable it is, but there is a two year mfg warranty, so give this a try!
