My tone quest stops with this Amp. Even if I were to go all out and get a JCM 800, I would still prefer to practice with this because I fear using up tube $.
This Amp Rocks. Plain and Simple. I have 2 low-budget class A's, 2 trannys and one A/B. I find myself going back to this over and over as my main sound. All my other Amps just will not get this tone. I play bedroom levels, so if you are into that it's perfect because the tranny gets you good sound and the tube brings out the quality. All of the Epic classic tones on the radio are replicated with ease. For a great price used you will not find a better Amp. I do not use OD, though. Just the clean is absolute perfect. I have a couple of effects in the loop and a Boss ME 50 up front. I do not know what it sounds like loud, but who cares?? All other Amp companies promote that it'll sound just like a Marshall. Why settle for less? This is the real deal. No imitiations.
Built in Great Britain. Nuf said. All of the same quality found in other Marshalls is included. Not sure why Amp is sized so large, other than it tries to resemble an all tube Amp.
EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT GREATEST VALUE.

The AVT50H might seem like a good deal for a beginner musician looking for a decent amp with two channels but it's really not. I bought the AVT50H and the AVT412B Cab before I knew hardly anything about amps, tubes, and preamps. The amp plays very well and is pretty reliable but the distortion channel sounds very bad at times. You have to tweek it a certain way and that gets really annoying, esp. with recording. The Emulated DI output is very useful and the FX Loop is too I guess (I still haven't figured it out yet). As I learned more about amps and whatnot I figured out that I really wanted the warm sound of a tube amp instead of the solidstate of the AVT50H and there isn't much I can do. I would have to buy not only another head but another cab to do this. The amp is not bad. I mean I love how it's just a two channel amp, how it has an FX Loop and Emulated DI Output, without any other unnecessary things, like chorus effects and whatnot. I was just dissatisfied with the distortion it provides.

This is a good amp for the money. The overdrive channel can be tweaked to get tons of combonations of tones. The clean channel is nothing spectacular, but none of the solidstate/valvestates/hybrids are only a real tube amp gets good clean sounds too. Overall this amp is good for virtually any kind of music.I play a Gibson sg standard and the distortion is awesome. Buy this for a pro. backup or a begginner 2nd head/amp. It's worth the money.

Worth every penny

I've owned this head and 4-12 cab for over a year and gigged it a good bit. I found it very reliable and full of great sounds. The dirty channel is total marshall and the clean is very fender twin sounding. I am NOT a marshall fan and I love this amp.

It's decent

By Ska King

from Spring Hill, FL

See all my reviews

I play punk and ska ( Operation Ivy, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Bad Religion, Rancid) I was using this amp at a friend's house. It's pretty loud for 50 watts, I have a 60 watt 112 hybrid, and this thing seems louder. I would prefer more gain, but what it has is decent for like Ramones things. Clean channel is decent. I would prefer something like a 30 watt Class A half stack instead.

Definitely a bang for the buck!

By Zach White

from Beaverton, Oregon

I just picked up a Marshall AVT50H and its definitely one of the smartest decisions i've made lately. the Tight distortion with the gut busting low-end and the bright and clear clean tones are perfect for my band. It's perfect for anyone beginning or experienced.

Good Marshall Quality

I bought this head along with a 1960A cab and when its plugged up to my epiphone les paul custom it packs a great punch. It has a good low and high end, I found a great crisp distortion that I love. I would definitely recommend this head, I've had it for about 2 1/2 years constantly playing it at shows and practice and it has held up great. Can't go wrong with a Marshall.

Satisfied

By TTDOray

from New Braunfels Texas

I couldn't really afford a top notch tube amp and got this thing used, it has a killer amount of crunch when its up loud. just get a sonic maximizer to push the bottom end, and you're set. Decent tone, decent price.

Authentic Marshall roar and crunch

By Albee

from Seattle, wa

Pros

  • Authentic Marshall roar
  • Light weight
  • Reliable
  • Sounds good at all volumes

Cons

  • Gold pipping looks good doesnt match cab
  • Slightly smaller than normal head

Best Uses

I have two of these and a JCM 900 MKIII 50 watt and the AVT50H might actually sound more like a Marshall that most Marshalls do.

Works well with effects units 4 cable method. Reacts to boost pedals well. Gives classic Marshall sound and with a boost pedal screams thrash metal all the way.

For the prices it's the best amp I have ever owned and will hold on two one of them until I cant play anylonger.

I use it with a 1960 JCM900 Lead cab and it's EPIC loud.

The rever tanks stop working due to a wire breaking, easy fix if you can use a screw driver and a pick.

I love this amp. It's definitely a great backup amp if you use Marshalls.

    avt 50H

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

i bought this head used and i am satisfied. the avt 50h is very versatile and sounds good no matter what guitar or style you play. the clean channel is the best, its so warm and toneful but it can also have tons of crunch. the overdrive channel is pretty good especially at lower volumes. i only wish that it was 100 watts or more powerful. (im not saying that its not powerful for 50 watts). i have it paired with marshalls finest= the 1960A.

    I like it

    By Donnie Danger

    from Burlington,IA

I play in a punk rock band and this heas is great for what I do. It gets a pretty good sound actually, and for fifty watts I was blown away by how loud it could get and how much it could rock. I play a Les Paul Standard through it (EPI LES PAUL) and it sounds freakin sweet I love this amp if your looking for value and decent quality this is the way to go.

Not to bad for a 50 watt

    By Alex h

    from marshville ,nc

I went to giutar center to look at a better louder amp then what i had because i just started with a new band and my avt 20 watt combo wasnt loud enough so i played every thing there on my buget and the avt 50 watt was tha best on my buget so i bought it and the cab is a mg412b 120 watt and it is loud. great for the music were playing especially ACDC. so i like it maybe you will to. perfect for blues rock hard rock but you need your on pedals for metal.

    It works...

    By The One-bxbwe

    from SoCal

For my home playing purposes, the head is great. I've got it coupled with an MG cab, but I don't think it makes too much of a difference between that and the AVT cab. At once you start turning it up more it loses the compressed low-volume sound that I like.

    Its a cool Head

    By 6- Stringed Chaos

    from Dallas TX

Although I really wish it had another distortion setting. This head will roar when the gain is up. But after a couple of months, it started to switch from clean to distorion whenever it pleased. Later I found out that whenever I moved into one spot in my room, It would switch. Weird. But I still think this head is pretty cool.

    By Jim Fazio

My reverb didn't work out of the box!! I have to have it fixed or send it back. Luckily, I didn't need it anyway. The amp sounds killer and performed well at a gig last nite.

    Good for the money

    By Anonymous

I bought this amp used. I am in a band and my 30 watt bass amp was not cutting it. I don know what these guys are saying about the distortion it works great for what I am using it for. The only problem with it is that it has nearly non exsistent reverb. I use it with a marshall mg4x12 I sounds great! worth every penny.

    Great buy for the money.

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

Alot of people have given this very good reviews and for good reason, the valve state technology is perfect you can barely tell the difference between this and a full valve. The distortion channel is underated and the clean has a really high quality bluesy sound. For the money id definitely recommend it and unless your playing DM all the time a dist pedal is unnecessary.

    Rock Away

    By Anonymous

    from Undisclosed

This amp can do just about anything. If you wan't hard knockin riffs, crunchy rythms, screamin leads or just simple bright, clear and clean tone then this is the amp for you. This may not have as many features as the AVT150, but you can more than make up for that loss with effect pedals. I've been playin for many years and this has, and always will be my favorite head to go with a Marshall cabinet. Keep Rockin

After playing on a solid state preamp with effects (marshall mpx) This amp sounded godly. I love it! And who needs more than 50 watts?
