This is a great sounding amp. Brings out the tone of humbuckers and can actually give you a great "strat" sound if you actually have a strat with real strat pickups in it. The only downside is the footswitch. Mine crapped out after a few uses. I would have given a higher rating if not for the shoddy footswitch. Just buy another footswitch, they're cheap, problem solved (for a while that is). Like I said, this amp sounds great and has plenty of headroom, no miking here for small clubs. I use with Teles, Strats, Gibson ES335 and an Epi Casino, all sound great with this amp. Better than any of the Marshall MG series ever thought of being and a great amp for the money. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.

This was the first "real" amp I had ever owned and at first I was doing cartwheels of joy and thinking it was the greatest tone I had ever heard. Soon after I got into the recording business and in no time I realized this amp really doesn't stack up to most tube amps. SS vs. SS sure it's ok but I dare ahyone to get a great recorded distorted or overdriven sound out of it. You want a good amp and you want Marshall then save your pennies and get the 40w DSL combo. That my friends it real tone. This amp is only on par with the MG series, not really better at all.

got kicked out of band for being too loud!

I had always wanted a Marshall, so I took a leap of faith and bought this one. Can't say enough good things about it. Clean is clean. Overdrive is amazing. Nice reverb too. I'm 52 and not to old, and it's never too LOUD!!!!

I have used this amp for a couple of years. I own 3 other guitar amps. I used this at a jam session the other day that someone recorded. I was amazed at the quality of sound, I knew it was good but this a wow! Only problems are a noisy fan (when first started) and the reverb broke but that could have been from "road" handling.

Blown Away!!!!

By Shredder-UOdnN

from Erlanger, KY

I purchased this amp about 9 months ago and I'm still blown away by it. The tone that this amp produces rivals much more expensive amps. I use it mostly for practice, but it packs plenty of volume and could easily be used for a small to medium size hall. I used a 15 watt Marshall prior to this. The tone that is produced by the preamp tube blows it away. I highly recommend this amp to anyone looking for a tube sound in a solid state price range.

Perfect for Metal

By Tinkman

Just a great sounding amp. Bottom line is, if your looking for a decent clean channel, but an AWESOME drive channel then this amp is for you. The drive is amazing and that's basically all I use. I haven't even had it half way up yet. This amp is loud! If you want a great clean channel go with a fender dyna touch. This is definitely for playing metal! THANK YOU

Good all-arounder

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I bought this amp used last year at a 2nd hand shop here in Japan for about 300 US. The selection around here isn't great, unless you wanna drop major cash, so I considered myself lucky. I haven't been disappointed, though my neighbors might not feel the same. The amp sounds great, and it gets LOUD. I still haven't cranked it all the way. I'm sure it can fill most medium-sized gig halls, and still be efficient for home practice. It's my first amp, so I don't have much for comparision, but I feel that this amp has great quality and good variable tone funtions that make it a good buy for most musicians, unless you're playing gospel or children's music.

Better than I expected

By SGClassic

from CT

I just purchased the atv50 model a few weeks ago and I was literally blown away when I used it live for the first time. With the volume and gain at 12 o'clock on the clean channel it was plenty loud and clear enough to keep up with the drums and bass. The OD channel has that classic sound which I was looking for. Pretty good tone and dynamics from this hybrid amp. For hard rock you can't beat this amp. I hope it's as reliable as it sounds!

Great sound!

By Rob-Uh_09

from Raleigh, NC

The package that arrived said MG100DFX on it. I was perplexed as the SKU sticker said AVT50X. So I opened it and found a used AVT50X covered with dust, with no manual, no plastic around it, no twist ties on the cables, no warranty card or anything. This was obviously a used amp, but I plugged it in and tried it.Wow, a beautiful sounding amp. I rate 10 on features, because it has all the features it needs. Don't pay for DSP effects on an amp, get a tube amp and get footpedals for everything else.Oh, by the way, they're sending me a return sticker for the box to exchange it with a new one (unopened).

I love the sound on this amp. for the various styles of rock that i play the distortion can do just about everything. the clean chanel is great, its a little dark, but hey, its a marshall, if i wanted clean i would've bought a fender. also on the clean channel there is a gain and a volume knob and if you turn the gain up most of the way you get great blues crunch with that great tube feel. haven't really messed much with the various outputs or effects loop. my only complaint is that there isn't a mid control on the clean chanel. great overall amp.
