OVERVIEW

An all-tube half stack with Marshall tone and style.

The twin-channel DSL100H monster has the same tube complement and feature set as the iconic DSL100, with a few upgrades. Marshall has added a Resonance control as opposed to the original's fixed Deep switch, so you have total control of how much low end girth you add. The spring reverb has been replaced with studio-quality digital reverb. A rear panel Pentode/Triode switch drops the output to 50W. A two-way footswitch is supplied. This half stack kit is a seriously epic rig.

      Comments about Marshall DSL100H and MX412A 4x12 100W All-Tube Half Stack:

Ive had this amp for close to a year, bought it from Musicians F. and have no regrets about choosing this amp. Its my main amp now and probably will be forever. You only have the two channels but the EQ and tone knobs offer a huge range of tone options, Im a metal guitarist and love gain at high levels but this head crunches brutal riffs with a low gain setting when you tweak out the mids and boost the bass you can sound heavier by letting the tubes do the work for you by cranking the volume and melting faces. I also dig the clean channel, its hypnotic how crisp and perfect it is. This isn't a practice amp though it blasts massive volume and you can make alot of enemies with this amp. I also use pedals so I can out blast all my guitar foes away. Premium amp that meets my needs for a true tube tone and has the history and stage culture to appeal to the crowd,

      Comments about Marshall DSL100H and MX412A 4x12 100W All-Tube Half Stack:

As revered as the early 70s Marshalls (pre master volume) are, mine were very, very unreliable. I had both 100 and 50 watt heads, Top and bottom 4x12 cabs AND an 8x10 cabinet. What people forget is that most of these amps were always in the shop for everything from blown speakers, blown tubes, blown transformers etc. I had to take both heads to gigs for a while. I was a broke kid who had bought the amps with lawn cutting money. It's possible the tech at the local music store wasn't all that good. After a while I sold them and didn't look back, until recently when I started to consider another one.

The current reviews about the DSL100H are all great and the current "bundle" price is excellent, lower priced than it was back then. The features are exactly right, 1/2 power switch, reverb, and a far better clean sound than the Plexis. The cabinet isn't bad as low priced as it is. It's a very versatile amp. Mine arrived about an hour before I had to leave for my gig and I had a blast checking it out with different guitars.

The next day I powered her up and after one minute, pfft. Lights on, nobody home. This has only happened with one other amp brand which will remain nameless here, since my Marshall days I have owned dozens of amps and almost never had reliability problems like I did with my MarshalIs. I really want to have one in my arsenal of about 20 amps but It must be 100% reliable.

Musician's Friend will swap a new one out as they should, but I feel like I've been here before.
I'll report back in a while about how the new, new amp holds up.

        Comments about Marshall DSL100H and MX412A 4x12 100W All-Tube Half Stack:

The first head I received blew a tube out within a week so I had to send it back, but I can't blame that on MF. The replacement works great without any issue. No issues with the cabinet. One thing to note is that both the head and the cabinet come with a speaker cable in the box, so there's no need to purchase an extra one (unless you're like me and prefer high-quality cables).

I've always been a Fender Amps guy so this is the first legit all-tube Marshall I've owned and I'm pretty happy with it. You can get a variety of classic Marshall tones pretty easily. The clean channel is ok, it's never going to be as sweet and responsive as a Fender would but I doubt many people buy a Marshall for the clean tones.

The Triode/Diode switch is pretty useful if you don't need all 100W all the time. I only use the 50W setting at home, 100W for live settings.

While I bought this primarily for gigging, I can see some studio potential with the tones coming from this amp.

The one thing I'm not crazy about is the reverb, there are actually two reverb knobs, one for "classic" and one for "digital" or somesuch. It's a very subtle reverb sound, you really have to crank it up to get anywhere near a spring-reverb-type sound. I'm honestly not sure if this is simply what I can expect out of a Marshall or if it's something specific about the DSL100H. If you use a big, cathedral-type reverb sound, you won't get it from the DSL100H.

Overall, a really great amp for the price. It's about as close as you will get to a JCM or JVM sound without paying for the full-blown JCM/JVM. It lacks a Master Volume but that's not a deal-breaker for me.

If you're on the fence about buying this, don't be. It's a great amp for a really great price.
