OVERVIEW

A classic sound returns in a package that's perfect for the musician on the go.

The Marshall DSL 15C 15W tube combo amplifier boasts two 6V6 power tubes and a Celestion 12" speaker. It's two footswitchable channels - Classic Gain (the DSL100H's Clean option) and Ultra Gain (the DSL100H's Lead 2 option) - share the same, four-way EQ network with controls for Treble, Middle, Bass & Presence. A Mid-Shift button reconfigures the mids when activated and a Deep switch adds extra low-end "girth" if required. The built-in, footswitchable digital reverb is studio quality and a Pentode/Triode switch on the rear panel drops the power to 7.5W.

Footswitch included.

I am not in a band, but I take part in jam outs regularly. Every one I know that has heard this amp- ranging from very experienced musicians, guitar teachers, enthusiasts and people with not a drop of musical interest have loved the tone of this beast. I played this alongside an Egnator Rebel 30 most notably and became even more content with my purchase. Being able to switch from 15w to 7.5 w is a very cool bonus as well. The lack of an effects loop is not a problem. I've always preferred going straight in anyways, so I can't see that as being a con. The bass response is awesome, very throaty. I play through a 2004 MIM strat modded to a HSS, roll the presence and treb around 10 o clock, gain at 9 o clock, bass at 3 o clock through ultra gain-I can play for hours. Want cleans? Roll back the volume, switch to bridge, done. The reverb is great but not very apparent. That's why I still use the rv-3. This review is terrible because my phone is typing ultra slow but you get the point. One of the finest amps in this price range for sure

I don't get Marshall's thinking on this one. I currently own an original DSL100 from the 90's and a new (reissue) DSL40C. In my opinion, this amp has the worst of those amps. I love the Clean Crunch Mode - (Gary Moore and Joe Bonamassa's favorite mode) and the Red 1 mode. The 15C has the exact opposite. Additionally, as others have mentioned, the digital reverb is next to useless on any of the reissues (that includes the 40 and 100) Drop an extra hundred and get 10x the tone and an amp you will struggle to outgrow (DSL 40C) - and don't be afraid of the power, the 40C sounds rather pleasant at low volume.

Comments about Marshall DSL15C 15W All-Tube 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I really like this amp! I think if this amp had the digital effects from the Marshall Haze 40 combo, it would have been the ultimate small combo! The delay from the haze 40 package would have really added to the reverb effect of the amp.
That said I have many different amplifiers and was looking specifically for a 15 - 20 watt Marshall tube amp. If you are looking for a do everything amp you may be better served spending a bit more and buying the Marshall DSL 40C, of course I'm assuming you've already decided to buy some version of Marshall amplification.

Comments about Marshall DSL15C 15W All-Tube 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

The Marshall DSL15c is a great amp with some awesome tube distortion. The clean on this amp is almost non-existant because it is only a 15w amp. That really isn't much of a problem if you are only using the ultra gain channel though. The tone shift button really wasnt for me because I don't play metal, but the deep button can really fatten up the lower end of your guitar and make it boom. Also, the Pentode/Triode switch is nice for practicing at lower volumes by yourself. The reverb is pretty weak but its digital so you can't expect much to begin with. My pedals sounded great in front of this amp. I loved switching to my overdrive while on the ultra gain channel for a boost during solos. This amp is excellent; however, I would rather have a louder clean channel for when I practice with my band. I sent it back and ordered the Marshall DSL40c instead. This amp could be the one your looking for if you do not need a ton of volume.

Comments about Marshall DSL15C 15W All-Tube 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

LIKE SOME OTHERS, I LOVE THE AMP TONE OVER-ALL BUT IT SEEMED TO HAVE A BIT TOO MUCH GAIN/DISTORTION ESPECIALLY ON THE ULTRA GAIN CHANNEL FOR MY TASTE. SO I SWITCHED THE PRE-AMP TUBES TO SOVTEK 12AX7WA (LOWER GAIN) PRE-AMP TUBES & IT MADE A DIFFERENCE. APARANTLY THE PRE-AMP TUBES ARE HIGH GAIN TUBES. I DISCOVERED A FEW YEARS AGO WHEN I PUT STANDARD 12AX7 PRE-AMP TUBES IN MY AMERICAN MADE FENDER HOT ROD DELUXE AMP IT HAD DISTORTION ON THE CLEAN CHANNEL & AFTER REPLACING THEM WITH THE 12AX7WA TUBES THE CLEAN CHANNEL NO LONGER HAD DISTORTION. THE MARSHALL STILL HAS SOME DISTORTION WITH 12AX7WA PRE-AMP TUBES IN CHANNEL 1 (CLASSIC GAIN) CHANNEL IF YOU CRANK UP THE GAIN BUT NOT AS MUCH AS WITH THE ORIG. ECC83 PRE-AMP TUBES IT CAME WITH, & FOR ME THERE IS SUFFICIENT GAIN ON THE ULTRA GAIN (CHANNEL 2) WITH THE SOVTEK 12AX7A PRE-AMP TUBES, SO IF YOU FEEL THERE IS TOO MUCH DISTORTION TRY SOME LOWER GAIN PRE-AMP TUBES, IT WORKED FOR ME!

Comments about Marshall DSL15C 15W All-Tube 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

This is a good sounding amp with classic Marshall tone. I especially like that it is portable, so it is perfect for that jam with friends, or the local open mic. It has good power and volume and can be used in most situations unmic'd. I find that it is very versatile and you can get a lot of different tones out of it, from clean (although it breaks up at volume), Blues, Classic Rock, or Metal. It has more than enough gain. If this amp has any faults it would be that the Reverb is pretty weak, although it sounds good at max settings. All in all I am very pleased. If you are looking for that great Marshall tone and don't want to break your back, this is a great sounding amp that you can take anywhere. Marshall IS the sound of Rock.

Comments about Marshall DSL15C 15W All-Tube 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Picked this amp up for a portable version of the DSL100H amp I also have. Does it sound the same, no not quite, but a 6V6 isn't an EL-34 and a 112 isn't a 412. Add that the features aren't the same and the little differences are enough to tell a difference. But I wasn't expecting the same, so to get close which this amp does is fantastic.

On the DSL100H, I use the first gain stage of the red channel but this I believe only has the second stage, and like many others have said has too much of it. I keep the gain around 2-3 to get an 80s type of sound, I don't engage the mid shift but do use the deep button and it sounds fairly huge for a 112 with a cheap Celestion in it. My Marshall 412 have Jensen Lightnings in it and when hooked up to the 412 sounds even better, but the stock speaker isn't so bad I am going to replace it, although the small magnet won't get chest pumping lows out of it.

The reverb is just ok if you keep it low and not that noticeable. I don't use many effects so, the lack of an effects loop isn't a show stopper for me. The only real letdown is that like any other tube amp this amp has to be turned up fairly loud to get it too sing. On my amp its above 3, which is pretty loud still. Maybe someday I will get the 5W version as well...Glad if I want my Marshall sound to go Jam with friends I can just grab this and a delay pedal and I am good to go without lugging the head and 412 around all the time.

Really though for the features it's lacking I feel to be only a hundred less than the DSL 40C isn't enough. It should be 399-450 new if the 40C is 599. I bought mine used so was much cheaper than that.

Great amp for a great price. I was looking for a smaller amp for some time. It was between this a fender blues junior and a vox ac15. This was the one I kept coming back to. I have such a blast playing this thing. It gives me all of that marshall roar that I wanted.

The amplifier sounds great and the low power options really let you get those valves cooking without blasting out the neighbors. Still, I wouldn't mind a standby switch and an effects loop. For the price, these seem like reasonable requests. Also, the reverb is so weak that even turned up all the way you can barely detect it. I initially thought it was broken. Its the reverb that lost them the fifth start.

follow up to my 12/26 review. Day or 2 after purchase I noticed a "hum" when switched down to 7.5 watts, checked & found one of the power amp tubes was cold, I ordered some T.A.D. power amp tubes but had an N.O.S. set of Phillips 6v6gt tubes so I plugged those in & they sounded great so I am saving the T.A.D. O.E. type tubes for now. plugged the amp into a Mesa 2X12 Recto cab & the tone is a lot thicker, love the Marshall DSL tone, reverb is nothing to brag about, may have been better off with the DSL Head since I have the vertical/ slant mesa recto cab to plug into. Will NOT PART WITH THIS AMP, unless I decide to switch to the head version.
