I hate the saying, "for the price" but I think this is a great amp. I love it! The price point is good and there are lots of sales online right now. I got a brand new one at a huge discount on-line. Look around. I would be devasted if it broke or was lost/stolen -- would definite buy another. It really is a great amp, is easy to carry, is not taking up lots of room, is loud and is ideal for blues, hard rock, 80s metal, classic rock. This is my first Marshall and I really like it alot. I saw a post that it is a beginner amp.....what nonsense.... if you have any skill and ear you can really get the sound you want and make your guitar sing. It also keeps the sound of your guitar...so a strat is a strat and a gibson is a gibson, not like on these modeling amps that make everything sound simliar.
40 Watts of pure marshall tone, eq and effects. I use the delay and it is meets the requirement nicely. Clean channel is good, over drive channel is good and amazing with an over-drive pedal. Takes pedals very nicely. Not a high gain amp. For more gain I use a Marshall Guv'nor 2 plus or a Tube Screamer.....both sound amazing and drive this amp so I have all the gain I need.
Only had a week......no issues.
I gig'd with a 120 WATT 5150 or a 100 watts Engl half stack before I got this - own both. The Engle head is awesome but cost a lot. The tones I get from this amp is just as good as the Engl and better than the 5150. I have a hot-plate for the engl to control the volume at home but I do not want to wear that amp out. Don't be fooled by all the amps out there that claim to have marshall sounds. I own a Peavey Vypyr 30 and a line 6 X3 pedal and the marshall tones are ok but no comparison to this baby. With the Haze you get true vintage marshall tone that sounds incredible. The usable gain on the amp is 80% of what i want an with and overdrive or distortion pedal you can get all the gain you need. I play Purple, Zeppelin, Clapton, AC/DC, Gun N Roses, Bon Jovi, Clash, Sex Pistols, Priest, Grand Funk, Leppard, Rainbow, Whitesnake, ZZ, stones etc. For really hi gain I use the line 6 uber metal pedal and it takes it well, but I mostly use the tubescreamer or Guv/nor. This amp can provide the tones I need for most of this, I personally like just a tad more gain.....thus the pedals.

Rather than make a nuisance of myself by comparing this amp to others in the Marshall catalog, I will say that the sound is solid if seeking classic rock or blues, but beyond this the overdrive channel will leave you wanting. The value of an amp decreases the more one has to spend on pedals to fine-tune. The natural overdrive (clean) is the preferred tone, but consider your purpose; this is not a bedroom amp,but for small gig applications. The bottom-end can be somewhat muddled, to an extent that note differentiation diminishes in some riffs/chords, but overall the amp is competitive within its price point. The effects are average, but usable. Single-coils cut through the MHZ40c better than do humbuckers.THIS BEING SAID, BUYER BEWARE! I bought this the day it was released, had it for under two months, then the transistor blew and the replacement's been back-ordered for months. THIS AMP WAS PLAYABLE 1.5 OUT OF 6 MONTHS, AND STILL NO ETA ON REPLACEMENT PARTS!!! No replies from Marshall either.

Comments about Marshall Haze MHZ40C 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
I am 49 years old and have owned or played every generation of Marshall Tube amp and a couple of point-to-point clones. Tone wise, this amp can hang with any of them and is actually better than some. There are some caveats, however. There really are two distinct Marshall tones: Pre-JCM 800 and JCM to JVM. Pre-JCM relies on power amp overdrive (and volume!) to get that great ballsy tone. This is what the Haze excels at. AC/DC, Aerosmith, Foghat, The Who, Led Zeppelin, and early Van Halen. Add an 80's-era overdive like a Tube Screamer or Boss SD-1 and you get Judas Priest, Whitesnake, Hair and Grunge tones. A Metal Mufff [*] or other metal pedal will get you modern metal tones too, but if you want that sound, better to buy a used Rectoverb like I did. Some people complain about the treble on the overdrive channel but to me is is essential to get that Zeppelin-Cream era overdrive. To get late Seventies hard rock tones, I turn the overdrive on but keep the gain at about 11:00 o'clock and then add a pedal with the drive at 11:00. This gives the more cascaded gain tone of the JCM-era. I think the original Guv'nor or Boss SD-1 are the best with this amp, but it loves all of my dirt boxes. I think Marshall cut a few unneccessary corner on this amp like the cheesey power switch, but for the price, it is a great value. I have biased the amp and the circuit board and internals appear well-built. Bias it when you first get it, though. Mine was way off!It has a great clean tone and the effects are handy for just fun use. I seldom play with any effects except reverb, though, and when they are bypassed, the signal path is all-valve. This amp will sound amazing if you can play relatively loud. There is no substitute for volume in rock and roll!

Comments about Marshall Haze MHZ40C 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
I rarely use the internal effects. Prefer to use external stomp boxes. For jams it works well with the internal 1-12" speaker, but for performances I set it on top of a 2-12" Marshall cabinet & disconnect the 1-12" internal spkr. Gives it a bassier tone. I like the tone quality of this amp, but get the sustain I desire with an overdrive pedal & a compressor. At jam sessions I will occasionally switch to the effects channel to use the internal delay.
Comments about Marshall Haze MHZ40C 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
I am overall very happy with the Haze 40, and you will be ,too, if you know what you're getting. Don't expect this amp to have a ton of saturation in the preamp. It sounds like a mini JCM800 when overdriven, and it sounds like a modified, overdriven JCM800 when you use a pedal, which works just fine for me.
This is a 40 watt all tube amp with one 12" Celestion speaker, two channels, digital effects...
This amp is very versatile for a variety styles, you need to use a pedal to push the preamp for metal, though, which does not bother me since all of my favorite players used an overdrive pedal to create great songs, and high gain amps are a relatively new thing. This amp does not have the distortion that something like a JCM 2000 has, but I use a Tube Screamer in front of mine, and it really sings!! Haven't had a chance to play with a band yet, but it seems REALLY LOUD! The FX sound good, too, for what a mono amp setup can deliver.
This amps seems to be built pretty tough, has a quality finish like all Marshall stuff...
Comments about Marshall Haze MHZ40C 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
Although it does work for me for now, I would be very hesitant to recommend this amp to anyone. Kind of sad really, because I thought this would be a perfect rig for me. I play country and blues with a little redneck rock, mostly in smaller venues where a stack is too big. I own the (Marshall) 50 watt combo with digital effects, and the 100 watt solid state (MG?) (both 1 x 12), and would choose either of them over this limping dog.
Not a lot of bells and whistles, especially compared to a lot of the new "amps with a chip," but the effects sound good and are tweakable. One push-button scrolls through delay, chorus, vibrato. On another note, the Haze 40 Combo has the WEAKEST, MOST ANEMIC OVERDRIVE of any Marshall product I've ever played.
Okay, here's the story...I bought this rig as a "Stupid Deal" from MF, and I wasn't told it was a "Restock" until it arrived and I saw it on the receipt. It happened to arrive on the day before my recycling pick-up, and I stupidly broke down the packing boxes before firing the amp up. OTHERWISE I WOULD HAVE SENT IT BACK!!! Flip the power switch on and it takes 10-15 seconds to decide whether or not to power on. All good tube amp junkies know to run the amp on standby for a minute or so to warm up the tubes, but it's bitten (shocked) me a couple of times when I go from "standby" to "on". The effects also seem to change themselves when switching channels. None of this really spells confidence...
The clean channel is really very good, and as I would rather get my dirt from pedals, I personally don't mind that the dirty channel on this amp blows. If, like most people, you buy a Marshall amp for that classic buzzola, this is NOT a good choice for you.
Comments about Marshall Haze MHZ40C 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
I love this amp. i got it for Christmas when they first came out late 2010. I have used it for jazzband and on clean setting at 33% volume it played over a jazz band and through the at least 100x150 ft cafeteria beautifully. Now when you hit a few buttons it goes to the dark side and gives really amazing tube sound (it is 100% REAL tube amp no solid state crap). Works great for covering big name bands that use marshalls for recording as it give that same tube tone. I have only had to 33% volume and it got as loud as i needed,in distortion 30% gets loud enough to wake the neighbors. The Celestrion speaker specially designed for Haze anps is a amazing sound that make it a great amp for under $1000. Plus i have transported it a lot and if you really want a good idea get a small cart like used in gardening and put on there, save a lot of heavy lifting (amp is about 50 lbs) and i have managed to fit my amp, ata style guitar case, cables, binder of music, and any other needs and have it all in a cart ready to go.

Comments about Marshall Haze MHZ40C 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
I just purchased a used Haze 40. I thought the tone was pretty good in both the clean and distortion channels, except that bass notes were pretty mushy. I cured that by transplanting a Scumback (Weber) 65 watt "aged" speaker and this cured that mushy bass problem. The clean channeld sounds great with both Strats and Les Pauls. In some ways the amp appears to be pretty well built as I had to disassemble it to swap out the speakers...HOWEVER, I note the plastic nuts on the input and footswithc jacks and will be very gentle with these. Other concerns: the provided footswitch works OK but there is a slight delay when switching channels and I don't know if that will be a problem when I'm gigging with the amp (which I plan to do). I bought the 4 way footcontroller and it has the same delay. Time will tell on that issue.
The tone of this amp is remarkably Marshall, in my opinion. I own a 1974X and the haze has a pretty warm sound. Definitely agree that this is more of an amp for Clapton and Cream songs than for Metallica songs! For the money, I think this is a pretty nice amp and I'm pretty confident it will stand up to my occasional gigs as well as function as one of my multitude of practice amps.Definitely try one out, but plan to change the speaker as that made a huge difference in both clean and distorted tone, clarity, and punch.
Comments about Marshall Haze MHZ40C 40W 1x12 Tube Guitar Combo Amp:
Right out of the box this amp cant be beat, but it needs a break in for the speaker. It will just keep sounding better and better the more its played, used tubes cant be beat for the best tone. The only way your gonna beat this amp is go to a higher end Marshall. I had tried a Blackstar which sounds totally soild state when compared to this Marshall. Also this amp has the power boost switch which isnt just for boosting your leads..engage it at low volume for a much richer fuller punch than you will get with any other amp. By far the best amp on the market for the price.
