A 2-channel, 50W version of the JVM410H Head

In a nutshell, the Marshall all-valve, 2-channel JVM205H 50W tube head is a 2-channel, 50W version of the most versatile Marshall amplifier ever made, the JVM410H. Both channels are completely independent of each other and they boast 3 Modes, all 6 of which are footswitchable and feature their own unique gain structure. It effectively makes the JVM205H 6 Marshalls in one!

The JVM205H has studio-quality digital reverb with a level control for each channel. This is also footswitchable, as are the amp's two Master Volume controls and the Series/Parallel effects loop. Resonance and Presence are also equipped with master controls.

With its ingenious footswitch (UK patent pending) and the fact all the amp's switching (channel/modes, Reverb, Master Volume selection, FX loop) can be done via MIDI, you're looking at an incredibly flexible amp! The 4-way footswitch boasts LEDs and memory, plus it connects to the amp via a regular guitar cable.

From the cleanest clean to the filthiest distortion ever found in a Marshall and all points in-between, the JVM205H all-valve amp head will give you whatever tone you need right when you need it.

Comments about Marshall JVM Series JVM205H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Well, I can pretty much go on and on with this particular comment, but I will try to make it as short and sweet as possible. A few weeks ago I bought an "Accoustic DSP 120" amplifier for use at the church I attend. That is a great little amplifier. I have owned several amps. over the course of my years, always wanted a "Marshall", but just couldn't afford one. I do not want to "hose" other brands, and what I state is my opinion, but if you can wait, save your money the best you can, and get whatever amp. you think is best for your needs. In my case, I wish I would have saved all of my nickels and waited to buy a "Marshall". I had the money to buy the Joe Satriani version of a Marshall, but read he replaced the reverbs with noise gates, so I saved some money and bought this one. There is nothing I can say bad about this amplifier. I can also say I have never heard a 50 watt amp. that could get this loud. I literally have to keep this thing dialed way back on the volume. I could have gotten the 100 watt version of this one, but some people were saying the extra power tubes were causing a hiss. I am tickled pink that I finally am able to own a Marshall. By the way, I own an expensive Fender Stratocaster, a 1993 Ibanez S540 "made in Japan", a Gibson Les Paul, and a Squier Bullet Stratocaster, and all of them sound great when run through this amplifier. I have quite an expensive array of effects which have been pushed to the back burner after the purchase of this amplifier. I really like the way it sounds on its own accord.

Comments about Marshall JVM Series JVM205H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I started playing guitar in the early 80's and for some reason I've never been a Marshall fan, and I don't have a valid excuse as to why. I have always tried to find "something better" and thought that new technology trumped the tried-and-true.

I have been using a Blackstar amp for a few years and it just wasn't doing it for me. I looked at other amps to replace it and then I tried the JVM-205H.

I can honestly say this is the best sounding and most flexible amp I have ever used. It's a 2 channel amp, but each channel has 3 "modes" with increasing gain that are programmable using the ingenious 4 button footswitch - so it's really like a 6 channel amp.

The clean channel is awesome and the OD channel has as much gain as anyone could want. I play in an 80's hard rock cover band and use the OD channel in orange mode with the gain set at 1:00 and it recreates the best gain tones of the 80's - think Van Halen, Whitesnake, Scorpions and Priest.

Do yourself a favor and try this amp; you won't regret it. I use a PRS Custom 24 and have it paired with a 1960AV cabinet and it is an amazing combination.

I also cannot think of a venue that anyone reading reviews here on Musician's Friend would play at where the 50 watts wouldn't be enough - gig volume is well below 1/2 on the master!

Comments about Marshall JVM Series JVM205H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

        Is Marshall! Made in England!
The sound is what most attract me to this amp.
I'm using together a Marshall cab 1936, just for reference. Great combination!
I tried others brands at the store, also great amps, but from my opnion the JVM is the most complete valve amp available in the market nowadays.
All channels have a great and unique sound. From the most clear sound (Marshall clear warmed sound that I like so much) to the most Marshall High Gain distortion.
The Red clean channel is very similar to the green OD channel, but I noticed a slight difference on the tone even using the same settings. I prefer the green OD.
The Orage and Red on the OD channel make some noise. I solve it including the amp on the noise suppresor loop throught amp FX loop.
The 50 watts is really really loud! Too much! More than I expected and i'd like to say more than my last 100 watts valvestate II for sure.
Only one functionality is missing from my perspective, a switch to downgrade to 25 watts and 1 watt. It should be great to have on this amp. Bu again, it is a Marshall!

Comments about Marshall JVM Series JVM205H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I'm stuck with a delicious 80's hair band tone in my head, and I took this amp out of the box and tweaked it for five minutes and haven't touched the settings since, because it gave me exactly what I wanted. It has two channels with six modes, to switch various gain structures, so it's more flexible than a straight two channel amp. It has a programmable foot switch with various capabilities, but even though it has four switches simply marked 1-4, I figured out what did what by default quickly without reading much about it. The MIDI function works slick. It has a nice feature in the power amp insert if you ever needed to use that. The FX loop can be parallel or serial depending upon the mix control. I usually use the OD channel orange & red modes with a 1960A cab (Celestion G12T-75s), and the clean/crunch modes with a 1960TV cab (Celestion G12M-25 Greenbacks). Those two cabs together sound great, depending upon what you're playing. But I've got to admit I mostly leave it on the OD orange mode. A little bump with a Tube Screamer is nice, and a BBE Sonic Stomp in the FX loop sounds awesome. But you don't need those for it to sound good. Some people say it sounds better when you drive the power tubes to get that distortion, but I removed a power attenuator I was using with this amp and started using it on a non-master volume amp, and I didn't miss it on this one. Probably will save my tubes, too. On the OD channel I keep the gain at 4 and the channel volume at 7. That way the amp responds very well to various guitar volume knob settings. I've heard some people playing metal with the four-channel version of this amp, but I don't get that out of this one. I think they usually use cabs with V30s, and I don't dig those at all. Bottom line: if I got rid of my other amps, I wouldn't miss them that much, and I'd be happy to call this one my tone…

Comments about Marshall JVM Series JVM205H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I bought this amp this past summer. I did a boatload of research and had narrowed my choice to Marshall and a couple of boutique amps that are Marshall "clones." I opted for the JVM and I'm very happy I did. I love everything about this amp! Let me say first it's NOT gonna be everything to everybody! It's a MARSHALL! It's designed to ROCK! The end! If you want country- Fender. If you want clean and jangly- Vox. But if you want the tone of classic Rock and Roll played loud- Marshall! I use this amp extensively in the studio. I use it on the gig but as I play mostly in cover bands that do a wide variety, it's not the 'perfect' amp all the time. It's NOT supposed to be. It's supposed to ROCK and when it does it does the gig like no other! I always wanted a 'real' Marshall (I bought a Haze a few years back) but the price tag and the sheer power always made me push it back on the priority list. Well, I made up my mind to get one and like most other things in life, when you prioritize it, it can become reality. I grew up on the tone of the classic players like Hendrix, Page, Clapton and bands like the Allmans, Doobies, etc. This amp nails that tone! I could go on but this amp is made to ROCK and it's made to be played LOUD! If you can meet those two criteria, you'll be very close to Tone Nirvana man!

            Pridefalls

Comments about Marshall JVM Series JVM205H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Overall a great amp for the money. The 50 watt version will get colored at higher gain levels, but I think it provides a great tone. High gain on the lead channel can create quite a bid of feedback, especially with time based effects involved. Effects loop is cool as it provides the option to blend the effects loop with the dry signal. I keep it all the way wet as I have several swell effects in my loop that sound out of sync with any dry signal coming through. I've paired this head with the Mesa Boogie Rectifier Cab. Sounds huge. Lastly, I actually control the amp head with the Line 6 M13 Midi output. This allows me to simultaneously switch the amp head channels and Line 6 effects. Makes my complicated rig a lot more simple.
Provides two independent tube channels with three switchable gain stages each. Also provides two master volume channels. I use the 2 master channels to switch back and forth between rhythm and lead. Makes it super easy with the foot switcher. (I acquired the 410 switch for more options)
            Great value. Relatively speaking

Comments about Marshall JVM Series JVM205H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This is a great amp. I have it paired up with a 1960 4x12 cab from the 90's and it sounds AWESOME. Great sounds from this amp. Very very versatile amp for the cover band guitarist like me. The 3 modes per channel is nice. Two Master volumes so my solos are always right up front! The foot pedal is a vast improvement and uses a instrument cable. They should ALL be like that. You can get this map for a great price and you will LOVE it. I am surprised more people are not using these but I wouldnt mind having the 100 watt either. :-) I have had this map for a year now and simply LOVE it. Highly recommended!!!

Comments about Marshall JVM Series JVM205H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Old school tone freaks seeing the title of this review will know just what I'm talking about. This head delivers "That" sound in spades and offers all the variations you'll probably ever need. Just keep in mind that every channel sounds like a Marshall; you're not going to get several amps in one package here. Rock and blues tones are represented in full, but high gain metal chug and pristine Fender cleans are absent. Also, buyer beware: the cab and speakers you pair with this head makes a huge difference. The Celestion T75s that come in the cabs Marshall is bundling with the JVMs sound terrible and make having this head a mute point. I had two of these speakers in a smaller Marshall cab and wasn't happy with the tone until I dumped the Celestions. I'm running an Eminence Red Fang and Wizard in the same cab now, and it sounds fantastic (and the speakers aren't even totally broken in yet). Other than that, there really aren't any concerns with this head. The reverb is just okay, but that's what you would expect from anything digital. If you want that signature Marshall tone you really can't go wrong with this head; for the price is delivers the goods.

            One of the best Marshalls

            By JT

            from Undisclosed

Comments about Marshall JVM Series JVM205H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I've owned a few tube amps over the last several years (including Ampeg & Mesa F50) and the JVM is the best sounding and most versatile by far. The cleans are sparkly and chimey (pretty close to the Ampeg, I?d say) and the crunch and OD sounds are exactly what you'd expect from a Marshall. While not a Plexi or JCM 800, you can get very close to these tones and SOOOO much more. IMHO the high gain tones are an improvement over the JCM 2000s.Some amps take endless tweaking and dialing to sound great (including some Marshalls), but it's hard to get a bad sound out of these amps. However, they are quite responsive to different speakers and can sound excessively bright/harsh with some...I'd recommend trying a few different cabs before buying. My only complaint is that the OD channel on this JVM is based on the somewhat scooped OD2 from the 4-channel JVM, and scooped metal is not my thing. But it's pretty subtle, and an EQ pedal in the loop solves that. The footswitching with this amp is awesome. The digital reverb quite nice, as are the effects loops. The one omission on this amp is a noise gate (the reason I gave 4.5 stars for features), but I don't play with huge amounts of gain so it's not a big issue for me.
