OVERVIEW

Practice with the Kerry King sound!

Marshall's Kerry King signature practice amp, the MG10KK, is a 10-Watt, 2-channel combo amp with a 6.5" speaker. It features FDD: Frequency Dependent Damping, a speaker emulation that brings the sound of a big guitar speaker from your small practice amp driver. You also get a speaker-emulated line out that doubles as a CD-in, for playing along with your favorite recordings. A headphone jack, with the same great, emulated sound output, allows you to use your Marshall amp to shred in silence, without bothering roommates or neighbors. The classic gold Marshall panel has been stained red while its black knobs and tribal tattoo design are in stark contrast to its bold white text. The result is an amp that in Kerry's words truly has been "reigned in blood."

It also includes an exclusive Guitar Abuse tutorial DVD, commissioned by Marshall Amplification and filmed by Guitar World. Legendary Slayer guitarist, Kerry King, gives you a personal insight and demonstrates exactly what this diminutive beast can do.

The MG Series raises the standard for what can be expected from a value-for-money range of guitar amplifiers and defines a new benchmark.

Control Panel

1. Input jack: Use a good quality guitar (screened) cable to plug your guitar in here.

2. Clean VOLUME control: When the OD Select switch is 'out'; this control adjusts the volume of the Clean Channel. At low settings the sound will be very clean with a bell-like ring. Turning this control above half way will introduce a desirable, bluesy distortion as the power amplifier is driven into 'crunch mode'.

3. OD (Overdrive) SELECT switch: Depressing the Overdrive Select Switch will engage the Overdrive Channel.

4. Overdrive GAIN control: Turning up the Overdrive Gain Control will increase the amount of distortion generated in the Overdrive channel. Low gain settings will produce classic rock and blues tones. Crank the Gain for fat and aggressive sounds that are perfect for soloing or hard rock and nu-metal riffs.

5. Overdrive VOLUME control: The MG10KK cleverly combines its Line Out and CD Input functions. If you want to jam to your favorite CD or tape, merely connect the headphone output of your CD or tape player here, adjust the player's volume to match that of your guitar and 'hey-presto' — you've got the perfect 'play-along' practice system. Alternatively, you can use this socket to connect the MG10KK to your multi-track recording machine and you'll get a great guitar sound direct to disk or tape. HELPFUL HINT: for 'silent' recording merely plug an unconnected jack plug to the headphone socket and you'll disconnect the MG10KK's internal speaker.

8. EMULATED HEADPHONES jack: Plug your headphones here for a killer speaker emulated sound! Doing this mutes your MG10KK amp's internal speaker for silent practice.

9. POWER Switch and LED: The power switch turns your amplifier on and off. The LED will be lit when your amplifier is on.

I needed a new practice amp. Was seriously considering the Peavey Vypyr 15 or the Line 6 Spider, however I was never impressed with the tone of their smaller models. I went to the local music store and the salesman pointed this one out. I expected crappy toy-amp tone as well, but I was amazed at the sound quality. Being a metal head as I am, it was clearly being marketed to me with Kerry King's signature and the coolest look any Marshall amp ever had. What it lacked in gimmicks and features (amp modeling/effects) it made up for in tone, simply put. It gets LOUD for a little 10 Watt amp with a 6.5" speaker. The simplicity of the controls really took me as well. The Tone knob uniformly shapes the contour of the tone, no need for 3 knobs. Rotated all the way counter-clockwise scoops the mids down and raises the low and high (the METAL sound). Turning it all the way clockwise inverts the three. Mid way is the tone Kerry King prefers. And of course cranking the Gain knob or lowering it along with tweaking the Tone knob can result in a variety of sounds for the versatile musician. I haven't tried the headphone jack yet, but it supposedly emulates a speaker sound and isn't just a lame, brittle line out, so we'll see. Its a shame this amp was limited and no longer manufactured, because I've seen the regular MG10CD demoed side by side with this one (check it out on Youtube) and I'm telling you the KK model sounds way better, and it looks RIDICULOUSLY cool with the black and red tribal artwork. If you can find it still in stock online or in a local store, get it, especially if you're into metal.

This amp came packaged really neatlly and the box that it came in look freaking wicked with kerry kink on it. But thats all the things I can really say about this amp. I figured it would be an awesome amp being a marshall and kerry king series and all, but it sounds like one of those amps you can get at walmart. Alright maybe its not as bad as one of those but man the freaking speaker sounds like its blown even at low volumes. Slayer is my favorite metal band and it pains me to say this, but Kerry King should have know better than to put his name on this thing, its not worth it and Im planning on getting a refund, and getting a combo probably. This amp is a rip off!

WOW!!

By Dime333bolt

I just recieved this amp yesterday. I dialed in the knob settings that was in the booklet. I had to turn the volume knob down! This thing has a nice bite to it. The only effect I have used on it is my Carbon Copy Delay. I have not seen a need to use any distortion pedals with this amp. The clean is nice and warm. The controls are very very simple. The FDD feature is great. It is a monster inside a lil combo. I am sure Kerry King is Proud to have his name on this lil amp. Marshall Has done it again.

Big sound

By SMACKMAN

from Louisville,Kentucky

I just received this amp and for the price of this little jewel, it is well worth the money. It has a great little Marshall sound and you can dial in the right amount of distortion that you need. It would be nice to have a little reverb available, but for the price I have a pedal to solve that. Great little amp. ROCK IT!

It's magic

By Musicman61

I am grateful that Kerry King and Marshall got together for this one. You will find no better amp at this price. I've taken it to jam sessions, drummer included, and it held it's own.....at 10 watts! When fully cranked with good pickups, look out. The pinch harmonics are nice too. Get it while you can.

Freakin' Sweet Amp!!!!!!!!

By dchapman75

from North Carolina

Man, I just got this thing today and wow! You wouldn't think such a big sound could come out of such a small amp, but turn this sucker up and STAND BACK!!! I got this cause I wanted something smaller to use around home and when I first plugged into it I was impressed. Now this is a PRACTICE amp, so don't expect it to sound like a stack or something, but it does have that classic Marshall sound in a portable package, and the red faceplate with the Kerry King tribal graphics are a nice little feature too! Definitely buy this now!!

WOW!!!!!!!!

By ILIVESTRONG

from Germany/IRAQ

I am currently deployed to Iraq again, and wanted something light and portable to continue my guitar learning expierience. For the size of this amp it packs a BIG punch! I am running my Ibanez RG2EX1 with stock pickups through it and it sounds great. So it can only be better with some quality pups. It has a great Rock/Metal tone in OD mode, with the volume up or down it still gives you a great sound. The clean is good as well. I am no expert but this amp is simple to use and at the same time sounds good for its inteded purpose, a practice amp.

My philosophy in amps is that I don't need a beast in order to get great sound. I decided to try the MG10KK and felt satisfied by its awesome sound. Plus, the controls are simple and this thing is portable. It's built like a practice amp, but it plays like a pro.

No one trick pony

By Big G-z0JrT

from Florida

I bought this little beast about a week ago after watching some youtube videos. Now, mind you, I've been playing for some 44 years, and I currently own 5 choice combo amps (well, 6 now that I have this Marshall). I wanted a true high-gain combo just to play around with, so I went to my local shop, checked out the Marshall MG10KK, and walked out with it .I like the fact that it has only 4 knobs - clean volume, gain, gain volume and tone - that's it. Most reviews I've read only talk about the high-gain capabilities, and that's understandable. That's the reason this amp exists.BUT, this is no one trick pony! The clean channel is very nice - reminds of a Vox. Switch to the OD channel, and this little bugger is really nice for playing blues! Just turn down the gain (below 9 or 10 o'clock) and turn up the volume, and there's some nice blues grit to be had! Then, of course, you can crank the gain as high as you like, and get a brutal, crunchy overdriven sound at any volume - and w sustain for days! (And, yes, the 6.5" speaker gives full respect to all frequencies - no lack of low-end at all!)It's truly amazing what Marshall has done w 10 watts and a 6.5" speaker! No matter how loud, there is no speaker blat at all! For $99 (I have pedals costing more than that!), the Marshall MG10KK just might be the best kept secret out there! I rated it all 5's b/c it does exactly what it was made to do, plus more!Highly recommended (from an old cat who's never heard a Slayer record!).

SWEET!

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This might be the best mini amp I have ever used. I still has that great marshall tone for the fraction of the price. The clean is unbelievable plus the OD gets tones from Kerry King(of course), SRV, and Jimi. Don't let the 10 watts fool you. When you crank the volume, the thing can get pretty loud. This is the loudest, best, and most affordable mini amp ever. If you're gigging, buy a 100 watt MG for the same tone, it's just louder.
