OVERVIEW

50W of pure, all-tube Marshall sound at a never-before-seen price.

Marshall has always sought to provide outstanding tone to guitarists of every budget, and with the new MA Series, all-tube Marshall tone is now more affordable than ever. The MA50H 50W tube head was carefully designed by Marshall's R&D team using the same basic principles as all Marshall amps”to deliver colorful, dynamic, unmistakable Marshall tube tone in a road-ready package.

Attractive Looks
The aesthetics of the MA50H head have been specially designed to create a look that stands apart from most other Marshall amps, while still retaining the essence of what people have become familiar with for over 45 years. Two orange LEDs illuminate the interior of the unit, highlighting the power tubes. This effect is visible through the fret cloth where the trusty white script logo is mounted onto a solid piece of transparent Perspex.

Tube Power And Tone Simply Executed
The MA50H is powered using the traditional Marshall mainstays of ECC83 double triode tubes in the preamp, and EL34 pentode tubes in the power amp. The layout and controls are kept simple, allowing you to explore unhindered the full potential of the all-tube tone within. The MA50H has separate EQ stages for both the Clean and Overdrive channels so you can optimally adjust each one without compromising the other. An extra benefit has been provided in the form of a tube-driven Boost function on the OD channel giving you, for example, a solo boost with more volume and gain. The amp also contains a spring reverb for use with all channels within the amp.

Intuitive And Practical
The MA50H was designed with the flexible control demanded by today's players in mind, but with a streamlined feature set to keep it cost effective. Whether in your own home or gigging, setting up the sounds and relative levels is very easy. The supplied footswitch assists live performance letting you toggle between settings like Clean to Overdrive, Clean to Boosted Overdrive, and Overdrive to Boosted Overdrive, ensuring maximum versatility.

Extras
Even though the MA range is designed as a no-frills, all-tube guitar amplifier, Marshall included a couple of extra features that allow for even more versatility. In addition to the all-tube preamp and power amp tone, MA amplifiers are equipped with an onboard spring reverb tank for an extra dimension to your sound. With the front-panel level control you can easily dial in how much you need for your own taste. All MA amplifiers are also equipped with a serial external effects loop for guitarists who want to add effects units into their sound. The nominal level of -10dBV is suited to stompboxes primarily, but not exclusively.

FEATURES
  • 50W of all-tube Marshall tone
  • 2 channels
  • 3 ECC83 preamp tubes
  • 2 EL34 power tubes
  • Independent volume and 3-band EQ controls per channel

After going through one mediocre amp after another one, many years ago I realized what I was missing.....tubes. I purchased a Mesa Boogie Rectifier and was fairly pleased for a few years until I grew tired of the sound. The Rectifier had plenty of distortion, but lacked the TONE I needed. I realized distortion isn't everything. I wanted an amp that people could not only rock out to, but one that people could distinguish individual notes and tones. I took a chance on this Marshall MA50 amp having never heard it live before. I must say I am pleasantly surprised by it's fantastic tube tone on both channels. I assumed I would have to use a distortion pedal in front of the clean channel to give me the level of distortion I desire, but boy was I wrong. The overdrive channel has plenty! What some people don't realize about Marshall tube amps is that at low volumes, it DOES sound thin and raspy. The true "Marshall tone" will only happen if the volume is cranked up. That's why I purchased the 50 watt instead of the 100 watt, to achieve more break up at lower volumes. It works! I purchased this amp used through MF, and when I received it, the mids were down to zero and the gain was on full.....obviously someone who doesn't understand the issue of tone.If you're looking for the right balance of grit and tone, this is a great amplifier for the cost.

I purchased this amp hoping I would really like it. Unfortunately that is not the case. It is really just a so so amp. I am comparing the MA to a Crate VFX5212 and a Bugera 333XL, both of which I own. The Crate is a good amp, and the Bugera blows this thing out of the water in tone. Starting with the lead channel, very thin sounding and very muddy when turned up. I tried different settings and just could not seem to get a really good tone. I will say the clean is not bad though. The Crate and my Bugera still have a better clean channel though. I also used to own a Marshall MG250 that I think sounded better than this, I thought that the MG was actually a pretty good amp for solid state. I ran both of my Les Pauls through this thing, one with the stock pickups and one with Seymour Duncans. Neither sounded good on the lead channel, again the clean was not bad. I also ran a power attenuator with it so I could really push the tubes, without making my neighbors mad, hoping that would help the tone, not really. The amp can be loud, I will give it that much. I really thought that a company like Marshall, even with an entry level tube amp, would make a better product. I tried out a Peavey Valve king out a while back, sounded much better than this and costs less. If you are looking for a good tube amp without the high cost, get the Peavey or a Bugera, both are much better amps.

Comments about Marshall MA50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Although it's a decent amp at a great price, it definitely falls short in comparison to some of the others in its price range. Marshall is known for it's quality and tone. Although this is a quality tube amp, don't expect a JCM performance. The clean channel is extremely vibrant and crisp... definitely the high point in this amp, it's OD channel is extremely lacking. Even at high volumes the OD farts out saturation and is extremely muddy. When paired with a booster like the DS-1 or Tubescreamer, one can get it closer to JCM performance but the discerning will still feel a lack of Marshall. On a good note, the sound modification panel (resonance, presence, reverb) is handy to have. The spring reverb is very noticeable and the ability to tweak your sound according to your liking is a valuable trait to have on an amp. It's also one of the prettiest Marshalls I've seen with an orange/red LED inside the amp chamber, illuminating the tubes and all the gadgetry inside the amp. It seems well built and have withstood months of heavy gigging. For players who are more interested in a clean tone with a decent distortion, this is a perfect Marshall to have. ACDC, Led Zeppelin fans will find this amp very satisfactory. But if you play a wide range of genres that dip into heavier stuff, this isn't the Marshall to get... or you would be able to only use the clean channel and a separate distortion effect. It can't live up to its brothers, the JVM and JCM series, but it has a personality of its own.... all completely subjective to the person playing it.

If Want A Marshall, Nothing But A Marshall Will Do

By Rick Simmons

from Louisiana

Comments about Marshall MA50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Out of the box the clean channel sounds great! The crunch isn't bad either. The boost tone is very modern era.

The boost channel is little over the top for me. So, I read up and the "taming" of the boost channel is to use a 12AY7 in V2. It worked like a charm! It keeps the sustain, but refines the harmonic distortion more "plexi-era". It satisfies me.
Built like the "Plexi-Era" amps, it has you essential controls - Which is all it want. Anything else I can plug in. The footswitch is ideal for instantly selecting between each channel.
The quality is good. I do wish the SE Asian production would include a tube schematic like Fender does. The Chinese tubes are better than I expected.
You can spend more, but it's your money. This amp is on par with other established names. Personally, I can't see spending three times as much on a point-to-point, hand wired amp, which I have owned in the past.

I use this for practice and recording. I have a fender twin that uses lots of electric and makes my ears ring after not to long. This sounds great on both channels. Reverb isn't a twin but it is not to bad.
I get some really cool tubey sounds with the ibz/dimarzio pick ups.I hope to take it somewhere
and blast it. But I think I better keep on practicing. I blew a fuse one time when I turned it on to fast
or off . I forget. I blew a reverb tube in my twin doing the same thing. Its quiet at idle.I bought
it here and had for a year. Think its here to stay? foot switch woorks great. It has a long lead
and the boost function.I would but some ear plugs too!
No junk here.

Comments about Marshall MA50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I have owned, fenders, kustoms, peacey, vox, univox amps. But marshall is the king of warm loud. Best if used for gigs. Not really a room amp, for your room get a 1 or 5 watt amp. For your gigs get a marshall. For your bigger gigs get a 100 watt head & a full stack.
I play my 50H through a marshall 1960 cab (300watts) straight. Much better than what they sell them with. Upgrade if you can. The 1960 cabs are pricy new, but look around you might find one for 4-500.
The ma is also the cleanest marshall I have ever played with, almost a fender.. Buy one!

Comments about Marshall MA50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I put the MA50H on top of a 1936 Marshall 2x12 with vintage 30's. I play mostly rock and hard rock with a Strat. This amp has the Marshall drive tone that I like. Clean sounds are very bright and clear. Channel switching has a delay to it. There is an audible 'pop' that occurs when going from drive channel to clean. Don't get this amp if you need the channel switching capability. Do get this amp if you want the driven Marshall tone for less $.

Comments about Marshall MA50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

This all-tube head has that great Marshall timbre and voicing that we know and love.

The best thing about getting the Head version is having the ability of matching it to your own specific speaker cabinet preference. I use a 2-12 with Vintage 30 Celestions and the OD Channel sound is massive. And it is very touch-sensitive when dialed back, with expressive pick dynamics and range.

You can get a warm growl or crunch rhythym tone on the clean channel. The hot channel is voiced with more gain than the JCM800 series, but with adjustments the same tone can be dialed in.

2 channels let me set my tone independently, and thats a big plus compared to 1 channel amps selling in a similar price range.

I was looking to find a straight-forward knob layout on an amp able to do full-on hard rock , that would be easy to dial in my sound and not break the bank.
This amp delivers that in droves.

If you are seeking "every sound ever Marshalled", you better have a look at the JVM series. Otherwise the MA series really has alot to offer in a very user-friendly 2-channel design.

This is a quality amp. I played it at GC with an Epiphone Prophecy(with Gibson Dirty Fingers). It sounded great to me. Not weak, but crisp. Its very versitile with a lot of interesting features. I have an Orange Tiny Terror, which is also great, but Id like to trade it for one of these, since it is more my style(anyone???). Definately a good amp.

I picked up this Marshall head with a M412A slant cab last year at a fantastic price. I was a little skeptical at first because of the price point but when I received this amp & cab I was very impressed. I don't know how someone could say they were disappointed with this. It's possible I suppose they didn't spend the time dialing it in. This amp head has a very nice "clean" channel but when you go to overdrive and then dial in the "crunch balance" you really don't need a distortion pedal. I do use one but simply to modify my tone through the overdrive channel if I want. I couldn't pass this deal up. I got the half-stack for less than what one would pay for the MA50H head. I'm looking to pickup a bottom cab to make it a full stack. Maybe later in the year. This thing rocks! and the clean channel is very nice. Get one if you can.

I liked the idea of getting an all valve Marshall head at a great price. It sounds pretty close to the 800 - 1K priced heads, but the quality of construction is where they cut costs. The seems on my cab were already coming apart when i got it as a restock, so I had to insert some brackets to stabilize it for real use... works as a good practice amp for my Classic Rock cover band just fine. The boost on the lead channel is awesome. Definitely a good buy at the right price!

It was just flawless. I recommend this amp to anyone who cares for his guitar sound. This amp costs really low for its sound quality. So for me its a very big chance.Just go and try it and in the end i am sure that you will buy it.

I tried this amp out in my local music store the otherday, and i don't understand why people are dissapointed with it. It has a realy sharp high end to it which cuts through any sound, but if you play sloppy everyone will know. It doesn't have as much low end as i'd like (i play metallica and lamb of god stuff) but it's got a fat warm sound. If you want a simple simi-high gain marshall then you will like this amp, if you want a brutal face melting rhythem sound this amp might not be for you. O yeah and one other thing TURN IT UP it's a marshall it sound like crap at low volumes!!

This is the sound I have been missing, ever since I bought my first series Mg head. Now it has tube's with a massive amount of gain on tap.Marshall has just taking over all amps in this price range.God bless Marshall, they are a little slow at times when it comes to amps like this. But it was well worth the wait, the only grip I have is I wish it had a direct out like my JVM has. This amp sounds good with a 2-12 cab and roars with a 4-12 cab. From passive p-ups to active p-ups,each guitar shines through.Even though it's made in Vietnam, you can tell Marshall controlled the quality. So,do your self a favor and sell your Line 6 and other crap and get the real McCoy.Forever...A part of the Marshall Army.-J

Comments about Marshall MA50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I first bought this amp at my local music store because I needed a half stack in order to punch through the bass and be heard, I also wanted an all tube head at 50W, because as I feel 100W is a little much. Problem was, most tube half stacks I was looking at were far out of my price range, so I was looking for an amp that was durable, powerful, and most important of all, sounded awesome.

I looked at this amp at my local music store, and started playing around with it and the clean channel was the first thing that impressed me. Warm, has done of depth, and clear as a bell. Next, as a metal musician, I needed to check the other two channels. The crunch channel is great sounding, but is not quite there for metal, great for fusion, blues, and when you need a little dirt. The high gain channel called crunch balance on this amp for some reason, gives some amazing girth, clarity and oomph for metal. Another great bonus of this amp is that it pairs REALLY well with overdrive pedals. I turned the output fairly high, tone past 12, and enough drive to give a little color and this amp really gave a savage, aggressive metal tone that just roared, especially when you turn up the volume.

However, I feel slightly disappointed with the cab, personally, it just doesn't quite feel there. I feel this amp head would pair well with the standard 1960 Marshall cab or a Mesa 4x12, as I feel those cabinets would really let this amp shine.

This ain't no JVM or Mesa Boogie Dual, but this thing does give a great tone for us guitarists that only care about sounding great without paying an arm and a leg for that sought after tube tone. I would definitely recommend this amp alongside the Peavey Valveking as amps that sound great but you won't have to shell out a lot of cash for.

I've tried a bunch of Marshall heads and this one had the best tone overall. The clean was outstanding! The control you had with the boost option really gave you 3 channels basically.

Unfortunately, I bought this as a restock and it arrived in bad shape, reverb not working, loose screws, and things hanging loose inside near the tubes. I had to return it.

I would have gave it 5 stars if I received it in good condition

Comments about Marshall MA50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

I bought the 100 watt version of this amp used. I plugged it in and jacked in my Gibson SG Standard and wow! The clean channel is warm and full of depth. The overdrive channel sings with wonderful dynamics and the boost channel roars with plenty of presence and harmonics. Granted, this is an entry-level Marshall all tube amp but the sound is far from entry level.

Comments about Marshall MA50H 50W Tube Guitar Amp Head:

Read alot of reviews on this amp head before I purchased. It takes some playing with it to get your desired tone,Not easily plug and play found. My restock came in PERFECT condition other then the LED lights over the power tubes were not working.I contacted Marshall about the issue and they referred me to 3 shops in my area to take it to for a checkup.I already have experience with 1 of them already-Global Audio Service near Chicago IL for a problem I had with my Jet City HDM.Robert P. there is PHENOMINAL!!! I emailed him about the issue and he mailed back within a few hours with suggestions.Lights are now working fine.Clean tones on this amp are Great-Especially for a Marshall.Darn near Fender good.Overdrive channel with some tweaking will get you the Marshall ROCK sound your after.Boost takes this thing to a whole nother level. In your face modern raunch that is like having a 3-channel amp.People online either LOVE this or HATE it(I LOVE IT).Take your time with it, Play with the different settings and you will be glad you did. This head is well worth every penny paid for it.MF had the BEST price as usual this season and if another site had em beat they matched it 150% PLUS give ya the difference in gear credit. There customer service is TOP NOTCH!!!!Been doing business with them for years now.If I have a problem,They take care of it immediatley without hassle. You need some gear??BUY FROM HERE!!!!!!
