Comments about Marshall MG Series MG102CFX 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I've switched to this amp from a small Marshall MG30DFX (30W Solid State with FX) assuming that it will have the same sound but LOUDER, and it almost came true. This amp is pretty loud indeed, I have never had to turned it up more than 5 (not even on our loudest gigs), still having a crystal clean clean channel. It also has a nice crunch if you like that, but the two OD channels do not have the sound I wanted (and waited after the 30W one), mostly because the MG102CFX does not have a contour knob to find your tone with. It's more than good for classic rock, but not heavy enough for metal or so.

The effects are nice and handy, except for the octaver, which is not exactly in tune. While I really dislike spring reverbs, the studio reverb in this one sounds great! You can choose from four types of delay, and there is a tap tempo option. The reverb, delay and modulation effects can be switched on and off separately. The EQ works well, I even needed to take back from the lows a little as the amp gives more than enough bass with my Strato.

The greatest problem with this amp is its cooling, which is actually insufficient for a hot gig. In Summer you can find yourself in a club without air-conditioning, and if you have to crank your amp up above 4 or 5, eventually it will become so hot that the heat protection kicks in, making your MG102CFX totally silent until it cools down again. (Mine has been RMA'd twice, and sent back by the service that the cooling and heat protection is in original state and works as it has to.) Now I have a powerful Marshall combo with the possibility to mute in the middle of any gig, making it hard to rely on.

Comments about Marshall MG Series MG102CFX 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I do not own this but tried it in store. If you want Marshall tone that isnt modeling in an affordable amp, this is it. Marshalls have always had and never changed from a certain tone...that upper midrange crunch. I was comparing this to an Acoustic lead series and the marshall has the more organic raw tone. The acoustics high gain channel is more about solid state metal tone ala Crate/Randall.

The effects are pretty good and lush if you want them heavy in the mix. I prefer reverb and a tad of delay only and it sounded great.

The only drawback is , and this is common with all solid state amps that are less than say 200 watts , is it flattens out when cranked. Sounds dead and cardboard like. But if you have any experience with amps at all, most know this. Randall ( and Crate at one time ) were wise in making solid state heads in the 150 to 200 watt rms range that sounded good when cranked...but i suppose companies wised up and realized youd spend more on a tube amp if you wanted loud. So this amp is NOT for someone that gigs with a death metal band unless you have a good monitor system. Otherwise , it sounds great !

One more thing- not alot of low end in these. Could add a boss eq to the loop if you wanted more low chunk...but thats not marshalls fotre' anyway.

For good hard rock and classic metal tones , this amp is great !

And the guitars i played through it were a epiphone les paul traditional pro , and an ESP ltd m-300 fm with emgs.

Fairly heavy amp not to have side handles. A minor annoyance though. Classic features that I'll most likely use. I got an even better deal as it was a restock. Very pleased!!

Comments about Marshall MG Series MG102CFX 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

Well, let me start by saying that if you are someone who depends completely on the sound of your amp and no effects, then this amp may not be for you. I got this amp when it was on sale at MF for almost half off and I def think it is worth every penny of it. But let me clarify that I only use this amp simply just as a speaker for my guitar. I acquire my sound through my pedalboard. I don't use anything on the amp other than having it on clean while I do everything with my pedals, (distortion, flanger, phaser, EQ, ect). So this amp is perfect for me. Let me clarify somethings though, this amp is not made from carbon fiber, it only has carbon fiber looks. The amp has a great clean channel for the price and the distortion is just okay. Some will like some will not. I use my pedalboard for any amp, no matter. The amp also comes with a 2 switch pedal, for distortion and clean. The on-board effects aren't too bad. The reverb sounds great while the flanger, phaser and such sound rather very digital and over the top. I also expected the amp to have more features as well. For the price and size, I expected more. But never the less it gets the job done. Overall this is a huge improvement compared to the old MG's. Just try it before you buy it.

Comments about Marshall MG Series MG102CFX 100W 2x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I recently purchased this amp based upon the name brand and looks. After putting it to use, that's all it's good for, is looks... Sound, both clean and distortion are bad, all the built in effects are useless, and not to mention its not cheap. I sent it back, purchased the Line6 Spider IV 150w. 1,000,000x better and cheaper.

I was at Guitar Center the other day & saw this amp which I'd never seen before. I'm a diehard Marshall freak. SO I plugged in & was most impressed.Great tone, easy to use, not made in CHINA! & very reasonable price. I highly recommend this amp. I will certainly get one for myself! I didn't like the original MG Series at all! Kudos to Marshall on this one. They got it right.
