I originally felt all these great reviews were exaggerated. Turns out I'm here to confirm and expand on them.

'Loud' I can easily get with my other equipment. As far as the speaker element in an overdriven Marshall amp, even my little 12 watt Marshall is much too loud for my home recording to do this. However, it seems this teeny tiny Marshall micro-stack. Well...I dunno. I feel ridiculous even thinking it. Microphone recording with this tiny thing then adding bass and effects afterwards to make it sound like a giant Marshall stack?

Could I get away with it?

Would others be able to tell that I am using a teeny, tiny little squirt of an amp to sound like Jeff Beck at his best?

Guess I'll have to keep working with it to see

This much is for certain:

This little thing deserves all the great reviews it has gotten at Musician's Friend

I bought this for my son. Thought it would be good for him to practice on in his room without disturbing anyone else in the house. After playing through it myself, I soon discovered he wouldnt be disturbing us with the micro amp(even if he wanted to). After reading several very misleading reviews, "jaws dropped" and "people laughed until they heard it", I had to hear this amp. I just wanna set the record straight. I laughed when I saw it(its cute), and was disappointed when I heard it. This is a toy. Marshall makes some of the greatest amps out there, but this fell way short. You can buy a 10 or 15 watt no-name amp for around the same money, that will sound alot better. But, I guess it does have MARSHALL written on it!

Amazing Micro Stack from Marshall

By Lucas Z.

from Grosse Pointe Park

Comments about Marshall MS-4 Micro Stack:

This amp is worth its value so many things you can do with this amp. The Micro Stack works well when prating quietly in your room or playing out side walking around. The little 9v battery isn't being drained in the amp when not turned on. The sound of the amp is outstanding for a pocket amp. The amp has a stand on the back and it also works as a clip when walking around. Great value with great sound!

Adorable and Collectable

By J.J. Bradley

Comments about Marshall MS-4 Micro Stack:

I bought two. I'll tell you why. I set up my computer with a Y 1/8 male to 2 1/8 female and used two 1/8 male to 1/4 male chords and got a hilariously awesome set of computer speakers. It really catches folks off guard to see the pair sitting on my desk and it kinda makes me giggle every time they kick up. I rated the value low cause they don't really do much, but are are highly collectable and fun. Makes a great gift for any musician if you want to get them something unique.

Awsome mini amp

Comments about Marshall MS-4 Micro Stack:

I just got this in the mail and I couldnt resist playing it. First off let me tell you that the tone for this little beast is amazing. I thought that it would sound like garbage being a mini amp but it blew me away. I play an American Deluxe stratocaster and it makes my guitar sound better than through my crate amp. Second the portability is amazing. I can put it on my pocket and play throughout the house. If i go to a party or over a friends house for a gathering, I can bring it with my Strat, instead of an acoutsic guitar. I am pleased with this product. Buy it!

Not bad but..

By Jamin S

from Undisclosed

Comments about Marshall MS-4 Micro Stack:

The only issue i have with this amp is that when trying to get a little crunch/distortion you gotta have it set at a pretty high volume. I actually recently tested out the Fender Mini-tone amp..and liked the fact that you could have distortion (higher gain) at reasonable volume. Granted if you have happen to carry a distortion pedal with you as well..this is a non issue. Either way, If you're a diehard marshall fan this is for you. But if you're just lookin for a compact practice amp..I'd recommend the Fender Mini-tone ($15 cheaper).
Great for small room or on the go practice, boasts classic Marshall tone in a compact package.
The sound/volume you can get out of this little stack was indeed impressive.

I only use this amp. Nothing else matters. I was playing on it and ozzy heard me from the other room and well he wanted me in his band for the upcoming world tour but I am busy and couldn't go. That shows you how good this amp is. Ozzy asked me to play with him. If I was to go on tour I think I would buy like 10 of them and make a micro wall and just kill with it. So, yeah

Comments about Marshall MS-4 Micro Stack:

Terrible cleans? Keep the volume way down on your guitar, turn it back up on the amp, and you have a respectable crisp, clean tone! Turn the volume all the way up on your guitar and you have no clean tone whatsoever.
The gain is where it lacks it's definitely not a grinding distortion it sounds like a muddy overdriven fart on the low end however usable on the highs. The clean is where it shines, if you can dial it in right it really does sound great.
I plan on getting the MS-2 because it has a pants/pocket clip which works great, if you don't desire the clip to walk around with get the MS-4 for a bit better sound.
*Side note the Vox Amplug series sounds vastly better if you have decent headphones and don't mind wearing them.*
I can't take my repeat of cleans back out of the pros, c'mon MF!

Comments about Marshall MS-4 Micro Stack:

OK I will write something none did about use of this "amp", at least I didnt notice so sorry if someone wrote that : I checked on some gear forum question from a guitarist--he tried to connect this MS-4 to his amp as preamp boost, he said he got no sound, sohe got advice to mod thing(you have to open back of amp and solder certain jumper to get direct out--but headphone is not usable after that !)And one guy told that he got sound through headphone to another amp but it was nogood sounding ! So...both was wrong, first of all I quite intensely play and practice guitar every day, now some about sound...So :1. You have to put jackin just a half cause headphone out is stereo, 2.I have plugged thing to my Bugera 5V--5watts tube amp-which have excellent sound just lacking little push...so this MS-4 have provided that push, it serves excellent as a preamp boost and gives to your amp (specially good if you have dark sounding tube amp) Marshall caracter, so amp turns into Marshall and rally sound as you are playing tube Marshall amp--no kidding here, crystal clear strong punchy cleans and also with this you can overdriven tubes really nicely, great also to give you lead channel! So you dont need boost predal if you use this for an amp ! And you dont have to mod this amp, just use this headphone thing ! You can use micro cube roland in same way--rec/hedph out to another amp ! Then you dont need effect pedals and sound greeeeat ! The same with this MS-4--your amp becomes Marshall !! Is that good enough ?

        More then i expected

        By Jonny K

        from Dunwoody, Ga

Comments about Marshall MS-4 Micro Stack:

Before i start my review let me tell you that im not really a marshall type of guy, but right when i got this mini amp i totally changed my mind. I used to think that solid state sounds like crap and that marshall distortion/overdrive is for blues or jazz. This mini amp gets a good amount of distortion(more then theyre small mg series amps) and looks cool in your room. Also what i do thats a little bit unconventional is i run my guitar through it into a b-52 at-100 with the gain all the way up(no contour) and i can swear that with the ms-4 gain all the way up it makes my b-52 sound like a dual recto. i would definitly recomend this to anyone looking for a mini amp or for an overdrive pedal.

Comments about Marshall MS-4 Micro Stack:

I will start by saying, this is not a serious playing amp, this is a fun, decent sounding toy.
This is good for travel, to shove in a suitcase and have with you, or for late night playing, if you want to be just loud enough for yourself. Could also be good for noodling around while you're browsing the web.
The sound is actually a pleasant surprise, for some rock, or even a bit of metal, as this can get quite gainy without being too loud.
And tuning below E Standard will sound muddy and gross, even E Flat sounds a bit muddy, though not as bad as others.

I've found the best use for this is as a travel amp, for quiet practice without bothering too many people around you. The best sounds, for me are with either everything at half, or everything full on, and these give you some of the best straight up rock, and then straight up metal tones this amp will dish out.

Another use I found for this, was plugging it into an external cab. These can actually become serious amps through a 112 cab! This does require modification.

        This is one cool amp

        By Anonymous

        from Undisclosed

Comments about Marshall MS-4 Micro Stack:

At first, i just bought this amp so that i wouldn't be confined to my room to practice. It is so small, that i can take it anywhere! But another cool feature is that I can plug my ipod through the input to make the amp a speaker. it sounds just as good as normal speakers but it looks like a Marshall stack! the sound quality when my Les Paul is plugged in is pretty good, as long as the tone is all the way over, the volume is set about half way and the gain is at 0. Otherwise there is way too much gain when playing chords. You do get a pretty "old school" Zeppelin sound with these setting, if you want to play something a little harder, you can just turn everything to ten and it sounds pretty cool. Altough it looks small, when you have everything at 10 it gets pretty loud (at least for my purposes) and when played with headphones, it gets really loud. I play mostly Zeppelin, Doors, Rolling Stones and late Beatles, so this does what i want it to do. I use it a lot for my ipod like i said before and I really like it. I would definitely by another one just because they look so cool!

        Great Practice Amp

        By Anonymous

        from Undisclosed

Comments about Marshall MS-4 Micro Stack:

This amp is great if you are living in an apartment. It is loud enough that you can here it and is quiet enough you won't wake your neighbors (It can get very loud though.) I gave it a 10 in features because of its size. I gave it an 8 in quality because it doesn't quite have the distortion I was looking for. I gave it a 10 in value because for the price, it is about as cheap as dirt. Buy it if you need a practice amp, but not if you are in a band.

Comments about Marshall MS-4 Micro Stack:

This Is the Smallest Amp I have ever seen. For how small it is it puts out great sound. The distortion is OK, but it could be better. I thought it was kind of expensive for how small it was, bit hey, that's just me. It is a great amp to hook up to your belt and walk around the house playin guitar, but for mare than that it is too small. Overall it's a pretty good little amp.
