OVERVIEW

A 5W, all-tube combo built to Slash's specifications.

Designed with and approved by the man himself, the 5-watt SL5 combo is a more accessible way to Slash’s tone, and has been devised primarily for studio or home use.

It has two channels, switchable between clean and overdrive. The clean channel takes you from Slash clean to raunchy crunch, and the overdrive channel nails that Slash-style dirty tone.

Switching down to 1W means that you can have all that great Slash tone at a volume that won’t wake the neighbors.

At the heart of the SL5 are three ECC83 preamp valves and a single EL34 in the power stage, with custom digital reverb.

The speaker is one of Slash’s favorites, a 12” Celestion Vintage 30.

FEATURES
  • Power: 5W/1W (tube)
  • Tubes: three ECC83 (preamp); one EL34 (power amp)
  • Speaker: 1x12" Celestion Vintage 30
  • Two custom voiced channels (Clean and Overdrive)
  • Green/Red channel status LEDs
  • Full EQ section
  • Presence control
  • Digital custom voiced Reverb
  • High/Low Sensitivity inputs
  • Celestion Vintage 30 speaker

This amp is worth every cent. Great tone, super responsive eq, 1 or 5 watt setting, standby switch, 2 channels footswitchable, great reverb (also footswitchable) and lots of low end if needed. And the footswitch is included.

First, the clean channel is your classic marshall clean tone. If you know the difference between fender and marshall cleans it will help your decision bc they are very different. The clean channel does not have a master volume though. I think this is a good thing but if u want to push the clean channel into crunch at low volumes u won't be able to.

The drive channel is amazing. U can get everything from plexi crunch to hot Rodded jcm 800. This is not a high gain amp! This is not a marshall dsl. If u want slash tones this amp will easily get it but it can do so much more. Listen to a demo on YouTube.

It's the best 5 watt amp ive ever had, and its up there with my favorite amps I've owned. Is it expensive? Yes but it's worth it and more.. It's sturdy rock solid and well built, it looks cool and the sounds are as advertised.

This amp is large. For a 5 watt tube amp it's huge. But this is a positive, ur getting the low end like u would from a half stack but at volumes that won't give u a seizure. I've owned lots of other 5 watt, low watt amps and they all had no bottom end and sounded small. But the Sl5 for its great low end has one negative. It's freaking heavy. 65lbs. I also use a blue jr at home and it weighs double. Also, no fx loop. This is not a big deal for me but if this is a deal breaker for u try the bad cat unleash. It's an attenuator/re-ampflier and a proper fx loop after the power stage. This is what I use. Check it out. It's pricey but if u own multiple amps it may be worth it for u. If ur someone who wants the sl5 and needs delay but doesn't want to spend extra on the unleash or a mod, it's not ideal. I put a memory boy in front of the drive channel and it was mushy. But throwing on the delay at the end of a measure or song it's just fine. But the delay on the clean channel sounds great. As for other pedals; chorus, phaser, flanger, boost and harmonizer sound great. A drive pedal depends. My boss super over drive sounded good on the red channel but u would need a gate. I personally wouldn't use any drive or distortion pedals on this amp. The 3 12ax7's give enough gain.

Hope this helps, if u can find an Sl5, buy it.

Comments about Marshall Slash Signature 5W 1x12 Guitar Tube Combo:

This is easily one of Marshall's best amps that they have produced in many years.... Just look at the specs. It is 5w that is switchable to about 1w so you can get the full effect of the overdrive and it has the famous Celestion Vintage 30 12 inch speaker - not an 8 or 10 inch!

I have a Fender 59 Bassman and a Blues Jr that really cannot be used because to get the max benefit, they have to be at full volume. With the SL5, you can switch to 1w and easily play at full volume.

Unique amp and doubt that there will ever be one quite like this.

Comments about Marshall Slash Signature 5W 1x12 Guitar Tube Combo:

Bottom line, this amp just sounds freaking great. The distortion channel has sustain for miles and everything coming out of the Vintage 30 speaker sounds so sweet. It has a nice full tone without being boomy or flabby (like my Hot Rod Deluxe). The clean channel is very nice also, but it sounds like a Marshall, not a Fender. That is fine with me, because overall this amp is much more versatile than any Fender I have played. Also, the reverb is very nice. I was skeptical, since I am used to amps with spring reverb, but the SL5 reverb sounds more like a studio verb, which I really like. Would I prefer to see "Made in England" on the back? You bet! But I have had (and currently have) Marshall's made in England, and this sounds better than most of them.

In 20 years people will be searching out these amps.

For the money, this is a great amp. I am using it in my home studio and it has just the right amount of volume, plus the tones are all you would expect from a Marshall all tube amp. I am very happy with the unit.

Comments about Marshall Slash Signature 5W 1x12 Guitar Tube Combo:

I debated between this and the DLS40c and made the wrong choice of starting with the DL40c. It was back on the UPS truck the next day. Too loud and sounded fizzy with all the mids sucked up and weird bass IMO. Just did not like it. So I exchanged it for this baby. This is the tone I was looking for. Very touch sensitive, great bedroom volume levels and the clean channel is really special to boot. Very shimmery and takes my tube screamer and Klon very well. The Red channel goes from ACDC Crunch to the the signature GNR AFD sound and more. The thing I was most worried about was that I wanted to possibly use this to gig with.

Only being 5 watts even though class A I figured I wouldn't be able to. Turns out I might be wrong. I took it to practice last night and it did great in the small room we were in with another guitar player and drums and bass. I took it home and decided I would do some speaker swapping just for fun. I put in a G12H30. WOW. this thing came alive and maybe its just a trick of the ears but seemed to add a fair bit of volume and punch. The vintage 30 sounds great in it but this G12h30 just sounds amazing and crisp.

I think it will really sound great in our band setting. I got thinking about what I could do to make it sound even bigger and popped off the back. This also made a big difference and opened it up even more. This thing is as loud or louder than my 18 watt Avatar clone head now which I have been gigging with. Last thing I did was pug it into another cab I had (Avatar 1x12 vintage) which is a pretty big cab with another g12h30 and this sucker just got bigger in sound and nice punchy bass. I can see how in outdoor shows I will prob have to mic it just to be safe.

This is a tone machine. I love it. Just what I was looking for. Everyone has different tastes this amp sounds very natural and sensitive compared to the DSL40 which felt muted, loud and fizzy at the same time.

Comments about Marshall Slash Signature 5W 1x12 Guitar Tube Combo:

Love the tone color it adds to my family of amps. I play a wide variety of styles with different projects and have always been partial to the tube amps. I currently use a slightly modded vintage 1966 Fender Bassman, a 40W Fender Blues deluxe, for the electric sets and a 300W Genz Benz Shen Pro accoustic amp for my acoustic sets with the Martin and the old ES-5.

My instruments are a '70 Les Paul Custom, 50th anniversary Stratocaster, 1952 Gibson ES-5, circa 1960 National "Big Daddy" Les Paul (slide work), 1970 Martin D-18, 1972 Martin D18-12, and a Martin DC-16 GTE.

That being said, this Marshall is an ideal mate for my Les Paul. I've only had the amp for a couple of weeks now and I'm definitely having way too much fun with it. Seamless switching from clean to full gain without worrying about volume. Definitely a very special clean sound that I never got from the Fenders. And the overdrive channel is simply inspirational.

I thought it would be great for the recording studio and practicing, after working with it in an impromptu jam with a great drummer, I find myself wanting to use it for performances now.

Great amp, many challenges and opportunities in owning and using this amp, going to be interesting to see how much I can get out of this amp.

Comments about Marshall Slash Signature 5W 1x12 Guitar Tube Combo:

I bought this amp to replace my current combo, which usually sees three to four shows a week(approx. 4hrs/gig). With simple and straight-forward controls, this amp should become an addition to anyone's arsenal. It's probably the most "honest" sounding amp I've ever played and stays that way no matter where the volume goes. The 1watt setting is more than ample for practice, while the 5watt setting is almost loud enough for small venues without micing it. Remember watts and decibels are two completely different things. With all the power coming from tubes you've got all the volume you should really ever need.

The lack of an fx loop can be quickly dismissed as a negative. If you're any good at tweaking your modulation pedals you'll start to enjoy not running an extra set of cables night after night to your sends and returns. Plus, the built-in reverb is great.

When it comes to weight, I'm all for heavy. It provides more bass and relieves the pressure of having to treat it like a cheap toy. Buy a dolly if you wanna save your strength.

Great amp! Outstanding tone! Ridiculously low price for the quality!

This amp is simply incredible. It nails that raunchy AFD tone with ease at higher gain settings. At lower gain settings, it gives you that classic raw Marshall crunch through its Vintage 30. Fairly versatile in that respect. The clean channel is warm, responsible, with a light breakup at max volume.
This amp is very loud for being just 5 watts.

The reverb in excellent, and just the right compliment to the tone of the amp. It's a rather subtle effect, so if you like space echo type sounds you'll need a pedal.

Marshall really hit a home-run with this amp!! Worth the wait!

I've been looking for that "Marshall sound" in a small 2 channel package for years without spending thousands. Tried the class 5's, MA, MG with very poor mixed reviews. That said… the SL-5C rocks! Good solid construction, easy to dial in a plethora of great classic very warm tones and LOUD!!! Love the 1watt switch, let's me drive the tubes at house level without the neighbors freaking.
Great for recording, practice and small gigs.
4 out of 5 only cause nothing is perfect.
