Comments about Maxon AF-9 Auto Filter:
i thought this would be the greatest sounding pedal when i first got my hands on it, but after a few weeks i really wasn't impressed. i mean i'm the pickiest tone freak there is, i'm sure there are plenty of people who really like it. but i think the q-tron is still the standard. if you really want to get the best auto wah out there, find yourself an old xotic robotalk. not the 2nd one, the first model with the arpeggiator. that pedal is amazing
Comments about Maxon AF-9 Auto Filter:
Claiming to have some of the same electronics as a Mu-Tron puts forth a bold statement. This pedal, however, does not produce like a Mu-Tron III. Its sound is a close approximation, but I have two issues with it (if we are comparing it to a Mu-Tron III). First, I'll clarify that my goal is to emulate the Jerry Garcia "wowmp" in Estimated, Fire, Shakedown, etc. (of the 77 era).1) This pedal requires a much stronger input than does the Mu-Tron III, and 2) its effect tapers MUCH more quickly (to almost inaudible volume) than the Mu-Tron III. I own a Musitronics pedal, and while this Maxon is good, it does not capture the essence of the Mu-Tron III, even with its hardware.I do like this filter - it is quality stuff, and I'll use it, to be sure, but it is not a replacement for that vintage Mu-Tron III which you don't want to abuse, lest it break and be gone forever.I've been using this (and the Mu-Tron III) with a Schecter C-1 Classic and MIM Fat Strat.
Comments about Maxon AF-9 Auto Filter:
I have owned the MXR Auto Q and the Electro Harmonix Mini Q Tron, and I think the Maxon Auto Filter is better than them. I like that the pedal is smaller than the others. It has true bypass and a lot of switches for making different sounds. I love it.
