I resently bought a 2 more of these pedals to have more tonal options and as a backup in case one gets stolen or lost or broken. I could not gig live without this pedal... it is simply that damn good!!! Buy it and find out for yourself, the Maxon OD-9 leaves the Ibanez TS in the dust!!!
Anyone who says this pedal sounds the same as an Ibanez Tubescreamer is either tone-deaf, or has a crap amp!! I have played and gigged with TS's my entire career, the OD-9 is the BEST I have played. Ibanez TS's are OK, and I played them for years... when I got a little better and started making money playing and was more picky about my tone I started looking to get better tone out on my rig. I sent 2 of my TS's to AnalogMan and had the Silver Mod on each.... they were WAY better pedals, more musical and way better tone. I played those AnalogMan mod'ed TS's for YEARS, and thought I had the best money could buy. Then about a year ago, on a whim, I bought a Maxon OD-9 here from MF, and was BLOWN AWAY!!!! I have since sold my AnalogMan Mod'ed TS's.... I think stock, out of the box, the OD-9 sounds better than my Mod'ed TS's. Musical bell like overdrive.... you put this pedal in front at a pushed tube amp and it is the best sound you can get. I play out of a Fender Deluxe Reverb and sometimes an Orange Tiny Terror stack. Handsdown, I think anyone who likes the sound of a TS, or is considering getting a TS should get the MAXON!!!!!
The constructions of this pedal is awesome. This is an area which a lot of people overlook when buying a TS. The TS's are no where near the Quality of construction of the Maxon... the Maxon has a better switch, better pedal, better board, better LED light.
Even though the TS is less expensive I think it is a moot point. You have to spend a ton more money to get your TS mod'ed to even come close to being the same as a Maxon... so save yourself the money of Moding a TS and buy a Maxon, rest assured you have the best money can buy!!!!

OD9 takes it to 11

Comments about Maxon OD-9 Overdrive Effects Pedal:

They way I see it, there are two ways to use this pedal. If you explore the various drive and level combinations you will have a sweet blues overdrive. If you turn the level all the way up and the drive all the way down and put it in front of a high gain tube amp you will hear the metal sound of your dreams. I was skeptical until I tried it myself. I can never go back. The Maxon OD9 will be always be on in my setup. It does not take away any of bass whatsoever, like other od pedals, and it is true bypass should you ever want to turn it off (which I won't). Get one today!

Simply Amazing

Comments about Maxon OD-9 Overdrive Effects Pedal:

Ive been checking this out for a while, then I finally decided to buy it....and WOW. This is pedal is simply amazing. I dont know why they say that this isnt a Metal pedal, because thats mostly all I play and its great for it. It made my tone and overall tone just simply amazing. When in clean and have it on it gives you that awesome 70's rock kinda sound. But back some regular overdrive behind it and your really rockin. Again it gives this amazing tone. I would recomend it to anyone because you will be sorry you bought it. Just overall great pedal

Good overdrive/great tubescreamer

By Mogbat

Comments about Maxon OD-9 Overdrive Effects Pedal:

Maxon is the same company that produced the original Tubescreamers for Ibanez. So, there is a similar sound and performance in a tube screamer and this pedal. I just want to add that I use it primarily in fromt of an already blistering, cooking high gain tube amp. It took me years to discover the grail that is boost and/or overdrive pedals through an already distorted amp. Much recommended for such a usage. The Maxon brings a better presence and cut to the sound. The mid-range push is sort of characteristic to this pedal. If you really like a scooped sound, this pedal may or may not be to your taste. However, it seems to actually help the cut and clarity if you like to scoop the mids on your amp's EQ, so that your high gain tone isn't all mush. Using this pedal is like cooking with salt, it helps juice up the flavors, gives them a added presence with some warmth and meat thrown in.

this is almost the exact same pedal as the ibanez ts9, and they do sound exactly the same, i have both. the only difference is the ts9 is $99.99. save yourself 50 bucks and get the ibanez.

Good OD Pedal

Comments about Maxon OD-9 Overdrive Effects Pedal:

Very good clean Overdrive. I like this pedal it gives you a great OD sound. Distortion without useless noise. Not a hardcore pedal but put some amp distortion behind it and your rocking out. Only thing I don't like about it is that it gives my amp a slight nasal sound when I use it alone. Nothing I can't fix with an EQ adjustment but one flaw I can live with. Great pedal i recomend it for anyone playing Blues, Rock, or country.

Comments about Maxon OD-9 Overdrive Effects Pedal:

recently I was faced with the daunting task of replacing what is arguably the best overdrive pedal anyone could buy, my beloved TS-9 tubescreamer. it went through hell and back with me during every practice and gig I played. how do you replace a legend? I tried the re-issue. piece of crap. then I stumbled across this one. I thought I was playing my old one. no higher praise can be given to an overdrive pedal than to be compared with the original TS-9. this one made the cut. incredibly underpriced for such a great pedal.

best of it's kind!

Comments about Maxon OD-9 Overdrive Effects Pedal:

I rated this pedal a 10 because I'm only comparing it to other (tube screamer type) overdrives of its kind and after trying out almost everything I picked the OD-9 for its clear note definition, punchy midrange and true bypass. (if you want a great high gain pedal check out the Ibanez Smash Box).I use my OD-9 through a 1981 fender Princeton reverb(all tube amp with one 12in speaker)it sounds awesome with single coil fenders or hum bucking Gibson?s. One amazing thing is how incredible the OD-9 sounds through my solid state B52 half stack. If you have a half stack you will really love the OD-9.half stacks seem to put back the punchy low end that smaller amps sometimes lack. I use the OD-9 for blues, jazz and Dickey Betts type jam band stuff. I prefer higher gain pedals for everything else. In my opinion the MAXON OD-9 is the best sounding and most usable overdrive you can buy.

Comments about Maxon OD-9 Overdrive Effects Pedal:

Best pedal IMHO. I have used everything in the last 12 years, the OD and tonal clarity are outstanding, the thru pass thru is perfect. The switch is a bit off to use, but not a big deal. Undoubtedly the best BLUES pedal I play Strat (USA), Telecaster (USA) and several Les Pauls, all sing when used with this baby. Usually played with two Fender Blues Jr. or Boogie Mesa Road King II.

Another great offering from Maxon. Great sounding OD, typical tube screamer tone but way better than the other TS9's. Compared to the Maxon 808, it has slightly less low end, slightly different tone and feel, and a little more gain.

Just a very good sounding low/mid gain pedal. I run it in front of a dirty amp. Plays well with other pedals. I prefer my Maxon 808, but this is a close second for low/mid gain tones.

Comments about Maxon OD-9 Overdrive Effects Pedal:

Tried many, own many, this pedal has a distint warm rock/blues tone that I really liked. I usually go for the heavier side, but it adds an element in front of the gain stage that really sings. In front of a clean tube amp it has that subtle warm tubular over drive. It is not a "hard or heavy rock" type pedal, does not really go there...uh obviously, not really marketed that way, or most would not buy it thinking that. But in front of high gain has a kind of great clean boost, the thing that truly sold me: true bypass. It's build like a tank, although paint seems to chip easy, it will look vintage faster...I guess. Has a mixed in "clean" element with any overdrive setting. Hard to describe...I own a badcat amp with the ability to mix clean and gain, both channels at the same time, this pedal has that element (does not sound like a bad cat, just has that mixed feel), interesting sound, liked it over TS-9 reissue.

Comments about Maxon OD-9 Overdrive Effects Pedal:

The same chip that is in the original tubescreamer in the new style casing. What more do you need, if you turn the drive down you get a pure boost turn it up and use over your amp distortion for super hot sound. Also, its true bypass doesn't screw with your sound when its off.

Then only reason I didn't give this all 10's is because I'm sure that it could be easily debateable that the "Old School Tube Screamer" may be the best OD pedal there is. I would call it a tie. This pedal is amazing. A must have if you solo at all.

I've played on a bunch of pedals, but this one takes the cake. I've tried Boss, DOD, Electro-Harmonix, and Danelectro overdrives, and none of those come close. It really would be hard to go wrong with this pedal. Such a smooth overdrive, and each note is still defined. Definitely a great value. Two thumbs up.

It took me a while to get past the fact that I need to own this tool so vital to my tone. I can honestly say, I am enjoying my Framus Cobra much more now that I own it. It definitely brings clarity to the mix, boosts the treble and helps increase the low end. Great clean boost, if you're using it like me.

I got this a couple weeks ago and I have been very impressed. This has an awsome tone, great for SRV fans like me. I would reccmmend buying from analogman.com which is where I bought mine. I got it with the Silver modification which makes it a little more vintage sounding and I couldn't be happier. Definately worth the price.

Comments about Maxon OD-9 Overdrive Effects Pedal:

This pedal as it turns out is better than the TS-9. The main thing that turns me on about this pedal is the "True-Bypass" switching. The TS-9 does not have "true bypass" on/off. The OD-9 does and this does not mess with the tone when the pedal is off. I know this because I used to own a TS-9. The tone and drive are equally great between the two pedals but the "true bypass" is what makes this pedal that much better. If you are a nit-picky tone freak, really care about what's comin' outta that amp (HotRod DeVille 21)then this pedal is all the drive you'll need. A little pricey but worth it for my sound.
