Comments about Modtone Mini-Mod Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
This pedal is not good for someone who's looking for a cheep distortion pedal to get modern tones out of it. This is a pedal that is better suited to acheive an overdrive boost to an amp that's more vintage voiced, like a Marshall from late 70's early 80's. As a matter of fact it can turn your guitar tone into a close (albeit limited, and sometimes cheep sounding, but you can play through that if you know how to use your 10 finger eq) approximation to early Scorpions (Uli Roth's, or Matthias Jabs' , or even Michael Schenker's early half-cocked-wah tones), and even further with more grit behind and/or in front of it, can launch you into Marshall JCM 800 tones. Further pushing and careful eq'ing and you can also get a JCM 900 scream!
That being said, it is a bit spacific sounding, and can be kind of hard to tame for many other styles, but I think that's just the extent of my imagination for this pedal. I think with other folks who know how to manufacture their own tone will find their own voice through it, and maybe other uses.
I do like the quality of the build of this pedal, it is a true bypass pedal, so your tone is only altered when the pedal is switched on. They also have decent quality componants installed, as well as the nice heavy metal chasis make for one solid little device.
The battery access is also a little cumbersome, considering you need a screw driver to get the back panel off. It is well shielded and protected on the inside, with a nice piece of plastic to make sure the battery doesn't make contact with any of the electronics, and it also doubles as a nifty way of getting the battery out of the tiny pedal.
It's easy to change when you figure out how the battery slips in and out, but can be an irritation to those who don't have any patience. If that's the case, be careful you don't throw the pedal, it's pretty heavy and can do some serious damage. If you are one of those folks, either get the AC adapter, or steer clear of this pedal!
This pedal is also fairly responsive, it will capture picking nuances, but more importantly is that it will both get dirtier and scream louder when you dig in with the pick, but it cleans up pretty nicely when you dial back on the volume on your guitar, but also gives you some killer sustain. The killer tones come with lower gain settings, it sings with it's bright, rich harmonics. Very Randy Rhoads-esque tones too!
All in all, this is a cool little pedal!

Comments about Modtone Mini-Mod Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:
These pedals sound decent (considering its only [$]) but the amount of gain it puts out was not enough for me-had to dime it to get moderate distortion on my rig (Egnater Toumaster-LP with Sheptone pups). The biggest problem I had with it was the shape-it does save room on the pedalboard but the wedge design made the pedal a little unstable when trying to turn it on with your foot. The switch was a little noisy and was to close to the lowest knob-basically had to use my toes to switch it on or you would hit the knob.Again, for [$] it's not a bad pedal, just not the best choice for a serious player-spend a little more for a good "standard" size pedal.
