OVERVIEW

A Metal pedal with tons of gain and EQ options galore!

The ModTone MT-EM Extreme Metal pedal is a true-bypass boutique-style effect pedal that delivers insane gain levels that go from subtle to over the top. The specialized "scoop" knob covers plenty of metal territory while leaving all the articulate definition intact. Adjusting the "Low" knob gives any amp that ground shaking low end thump while the "High" knob lets you dial in just the right amount of top end sweetness. ModTone MT-EM's proprietary gain stage lets you sprinkle just a touch of dirt or crank it all the way for a molten metal meltdown!

FEATURES
  • True bypass
  • Level knob
  • Gain knob
  • Dual concentric knobs that control highs, lows, and parametric mids

I have been playing for over 20 years and still trying to find the proper heavy metal sound, and this thing is among the best distortion boxes I have used over all these years. I tried it through a tone robbing Marshall and it still sounded better than all my other foot pedals. Try it you won't be too disappointed, if anything you will hang on to it.

I'm impressed.

Comments about Modtone MT-EM Extreme Metal Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have this pedal after my SD-1 and DS-1. The order is obvious. The signal is boosted one after the other, so I end up with a good range of overdrive/distortion in my pedalboard. I do not play heavy metal but the Modtone pedal offers a wide range of crunchy sounds, and EQ as well (with the stack knobs). You can also get a nice ZZTop sound. This is an excellent pedal not only for metal, but for blues and classic rock as well. This is true bypass and does not suck the tone. I play hollow and semi-hollow body guitars with a Vox all tube amp. Like any gain pedal, it will generate some noise, but not a big deal. Once you start playing, it will put a smile on your face. It appears that Modtone is doing a good job so far.

    Flexibility Boss (not boss pedal)

Comments about Modtone MT-EM Extreme Metal Guitar Effects Pedal:

I just got this pedal a few days ago and for the price, the tone and dist. level options make this quite a flexible pedal indeed. Side by side with my Metal Muff....eh..about the same amount of gain, but with a bit more...."something" that perahps come from the mid/scoop dials. that's where this shines. also, I have this placed after a Black Star HT distX (or what ever) pedal and use the tube in that as an ovberdrive boost. with that combo, even muy "el cheapo raven practice amp" can dish out any tone options. If you like to hang on to pedals, you'll keep this one.

    Best distortion pedal, period.

    By Zach Gates

Comments about Modtone MT-EM Extreme Metal Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've tried multiple distortion pedals out there for the "extreme" end of the spectrum. The Boss Metal Zone, the Digitech, the works. I've never run into anything this versatile, this powerful, and just plain awesome sounding.I've played this piped through both a cheap 15 watt Fender amp and a Presonus Firepod into a DAW, and in both cases its force was incredible, let alone the one time I heard it through a big old Marshall monster. The bypass feature is also great, since it means when the pedal's off you don't get any noise. Do you play metal? GET THIS. End of story. Better than any of the others.

Killer Pedal for metal and rock

Comments about Modtone MT-EM Extreme Metal Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is a shred machine. It easily cranks out Metallica like tones without breaking a sweat. Also, if you tweak the mid scoop you can even get a good grunge sound from it. Even cam with a lifetime warranty. Also, I don't know what the guy under me is talking about but this thing is a true bypass and doesnt touch the tone of amp or guitar when off.

Comments about Modtone MT-EM Extreme Metal Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've played bass for 7 years. I got myself a GT-10b for it and never looked back. I've since started playing guitar, and effects became an early issue. Guitar just doesn't work as well for as long without effects.

MF had this on sale, so I researched it. From what I saw and heard, I had to get it. When it arrived, I was pleased. My guitarists were jealous. Fantastic sound, great variety (of metal) to be had. I couldn't be happier.

Except for the darn battery! After a day or two of playing with it (and unplugging it when done), I played it at night and just clicked off the effects when I was done. I didn't unplug it. The next day, dead batteries. I looked it up, and fine, my mistake.

Even if clicked off, it eats batteries if there's something jacked in. I'd rather the power be tied to whether I have turned the effects on or if I've hit it to bypass, but whatever. And maybe, since it only lasted about 20 hours while on, the batteries were just the cheapos they put in to start.

Well, changing batteries requires you to unscrew 4 screws on the bottom, take the whole plate off. I stripped one screw in the process. Fine. Plopped in a Duracell, hoped it'd last longer. But after ~20-30 hours of playtime, it's dead. I did find my GT-10b cord works with it, and I'll do that for now on.

For Modtone, make a plastic door access and change the battery!

For readers, the bottom line: Difficult battery access. Gig with a power supply, not batteries. But FANTASTIC sound well worth the trouble. Hence, 4/5

Many amps will give a good distortion sound BUT they have to be turned up loud for the good distorted

Excellent distortion sound at lower playing levels. The output level(hotness)of your pickups will determine the type of distortion you will get at a certain setting. This pedal is not the most "sinister" sounding pedal
I have heard but you can get many heavy rock and metal distortion tones.Tone controls are easy to use.
Unit is smaller than some others and seems well built. IMO this would be excellent for large venue players also.
