I heard a lot of bad stuff about the purple version of this pedal. Specifically loss of volume. I purchased the yellow version b/c it was very reasonable at MF. The unit I got does not exhibit volume loss (beyond normal for a built into the amp term… but that is a perception thing as pulses are just as loud… its just pulsing so it seems not as loud). I use it with a regulated power supply… maybe the problem other folks had was due to use with 9V or non regulated power supply???? The one I got can do anything from the brown faced Fender trem to Jimi/Univibe. The wave control is very subtle from full left to full right. But the differences at those extremes is remarkable (full left is more of that brown faced thing while full right is more like a Univibe). Regulating depth at either extreme gave me a lot of options… even though I was just looking for stock vintage term sound (that was found easily with things set at middle position.

First, the pedal - very good controls, and very easy to adjust to get the tremolo sound you want. Wave control goes from sawtooth wave to square wave with a lot of fine tuning available in between, so all kinds of sounds between smoothness and choppiness, while rate and depth knobs work as expected, from slow to fast, and from and subtle to whatever the opposite of subtle is (blatant?).

I got this as a Stupid Deal of the Deal, so the price seemed very good . . . HOWEVER . . .

this is the second SDOTD, both pedals, where I feel that MF is selling used items as new. The box included no instruction book or sheet, and no warranty information (the second one maybe isn't included, the first one certainly is). And a battery was installed.

I contacted MF, and was essentially told "if there's a problem with how the pedal works, let us know. Thank you!"

I have no doubt MF would take back a defective pedal. Why I am unhappy is because I paid for what I thought was a new pedal. Yes, I got a good price, but maybe not so good (or not good at all) for a used pedal, and I probably would have opted to pay more for a new pedal with the 5 year warranty. MF didn't seem to care that I was a customer with about 60 orders in the last 3 years. I hope this isn't an indication that customer service is going to be less of a priority at MF. I've had nothing but good things to say about and recommendations for MF in the past - I hope that this was an anomaly.

Glad I took the good reviews of this pedal to heart. You can actually get the "Rebel Rouser" sound with this pedal - also can adjust to just a "hint" for subtle country background effects. I wasn't expecting all of this for the price.

Sounded great- but I noticed a loud pop through the amp when pressing the footswitch on and off. Thought I got a lemon, so exchanged it for another one- same problem. If you are using it at gigging volumes the noise is unacceptable. Returned for a refund.

Comments about Modtone MT-HART Special Edition Harmonic Tremor Pedal:

I will say this is a really good tremolo pedal, especially for the price. Sounds great, and does all the functions that is expected.

However, there is one issue of concern. That is of the screws. When I was trying to get inside the device, to put a battery in, I had major difficulty unscrewing the bottom.

It felt like someone used an automotive torque wrench, like the kind you use to put tires on cars. Not literally, of course, but relatively speaking. Extremely tight!! Use caution so you don't strip the top of the screw head!!

Also, the length of the screws are different, on different sides of the pedal(front vs. back). Make sure you keep track of the screws, when changing a battery.

Solidly made, and otherwise, a good pedal. The screws prevent me from giving it five stars.

I wanted an affordable but better than average Tremolo with versatility for live performances. I love the tremolo features of this pedal. I have it in my effects loop of a Marshall DSL40C (yes, it does clean) alongside a Chorus and Reverb and when I hit the switch, the very visible blue LED flashes and I know the tremolo speed rate immediately. It has True By-Pass and creates the desired effect with no popping or crazy volume drops when engaged. I play surf, pop, rock and with the 5 Year Warranty, though I am new to ModTone effects, I am comfortable with it's durability factor.

The blinking tempo is what really puts this pedal over the top for me. It is capable of machine gun quickness with excellent, precise tracking. Slow 50's and 60's clean with the shaping and depth going from very subtle to quite aggressive while warming your tone. Very well built.

I got this pedal for a great deal, and while the yellow color is a bit too much for my taste, the sound works great for my purposes (amateur recording). It has a good range of speeds for tremelo, and a control that adjusts the wavelengths so you can get a really choppy sound, to a more subtle tremelo, to anything in between. For the price, this is an excellent tremelo. The only con was that it did add just a touch more background noise to my board

Comments about Modtone MT-HART Special Edition Harmonic Tremor Pedal:

This is an effective tremolo pedal that can provide a vintage sound as well as modern textures.
I bought this to use with a Fender Vaporizer amp which has a rich reverb, but no tremolo. The Vaporizer itself, a 2x10" is a more powerful stand-in for my dependable Valco Airline. The Valco has both reverb and an excellent tremolo, and I used this vintage amp as the standard to measure against. The Modtone Harmonic Tremor pedal (I purchased the yellow colored special edition) does what my old Valco can do and then some. There is a good deal of tremolo variation to choose from. For starters, with everything at 12 o'clock, it behaves like a vintage tremolo circuit, so right there, my criteria was met. That is what I was looking for.
The added value comes with the depth and wave dials which allow a great deal of additional control. It covers anything from subtle jazz/blues coloration to a heavy rhythmic pulse. It can definitely pull off the following range of sounds:
                        Vintage...
                        Beach Boys "In My Room"
                        Duane Eddy, "Rebel Rouser"
                        Aretha Franklin, "Chain of Fools"

On the Subtle side would be...
Arctic Monkeys, "Do I Wanna Know"

                        Overt effects...
The Smiths, "How Soon is Now"
SNSD, "Hoot" which is an homage to old Spy movie guitar
Could probably emulate the organ line from the Who's "Baba O'Reilly"

The basic tone is very clean and transparent. I heard no volume drop-off when used with a Keeley Luna Overdrive. The blue LED flashes at the same rate as the speed of the tremolo; this visual cue could be useful in the cacophony of band setup or a venue with lots of crowd noise.
The Harmonic Tremor is compact and solidly built. Even the packaging is nice. I got this as a Stupid Deal of the Day. If I was paying full price I probably would have opted for a boutique pedal. But this thing feels as good and sounds as clean as any boutique pedal I've got. It doesn't have all the crazy options of a high-end tremolo pedal, but neither did I pay the crazy high-end price.

This is a hideous looking pedal and the flashing LED can be a problem for some epileptics, LOL, but that is the only "bad" about this pedal. As soon as it arrived, I plugged it in and played "Rumble" and it was awesome!! The learning curve is brief if you know what times you wish to achieve and sounds you're going for. I plugged my blacktop Strat into it, then into a Deville 212. The pedal was true when compared to my teacher's Hendrick modded original '68 Twin Rvb. He was truly impressed! I experienced no tone suck, volume loss, and the pedal was perfectly quiet when powered by my Godlyke daisychain. I would definitely recommend this pedal to anyone looking for a good simple trem pedal. Couldn't be happier!

I didn't know much about Modtone effects and was skeptical at first. I saw it on Stupid Deal of the Day for a great price and got it. Very glad I did! I will definitely look into more Modtone effects in the future!

Nice heavy duty case. Excellent diversity in sound and texture. Have not had time to play with it much but so far so excellent. See Brownface to univibe review.

Comments about Modtone MT-HART Special Edition Harmonic Tremor Pedal:

I purchased this on a Stupid Deal of the Day and got a really great deal on it. For the sale price I couldn't get a better tremolo. The ability to adjust the rate, speed and depth or the modulation is fantastic. The LED indicating the speed/timing is helpful as a quick reference. I will say that when adding in a chain after my OD pedal I did lose some volume when turning on the effect.
