Comments about Morley Buffer Boost Pedal:
I bought this to clean up my sound. The added boost was a bonus in my opinion. However, I didn't notice much of an effect. My sound problem ended up being due to other pedal problems and not for need of a buffer. So Im not sure if the lack of effect is due to the pedal or due to my signal chain not being long enough to warrant a buffer.
The boost does make you louder. But in order to be usefully louder you have to have the boost at 50+% which is also where it starts to overdrive your sound. I play out of a 50w Vox night train, and have consequently started using this less to boost my solos and more to achieve an overdriven sound. It sounds great as a mild overdrive pedal.
An additional note: there is no on and off switch. Meaning even when the boost is off, and your rig is off the buffer is still on. I don't like to leave that stuff running 24/7 so I unplug it. I have never owned another boost, so maybe they are all like that. I just wish it had additional switch to turn the whole unit on/ off.
- Excellent Sound Quality
Comments about Morley Buffer Boost Pedal:
I do not feel the previous 2 star review is fair as I don't think the user understood the purpose of this pedal or how clean boosts work. It is intended to be: 1) a buffer and 2) a clean boost.
One reason I bought this as I have a long cable run from guitar to amp, hence the need for a buffer. I use a high-quality 12' cable from guitar to this unit and a tuner on a small pedalboard, then a cheaper cable to the amp as I can do that because the signal, per design of the pedal, is buffered whether the boost is engaged or not. It serves this purpose well.
The other reason I bought this (wait for it...) was for the clean boost. I use this to intentionally to overdrive the preamp. I was previously using a Boss SD-1, but it colored my sound to much. In contrast to the other user user, I find unity in signal to be at about 30%, with anything over that driving the amp to various degrees.
This isn't designed to give you a large boost in volume as the previous reviewer felt. If that it what you're looking for, put a clean boost or graphic eq in the effects loop and engage it when you need a volume boost.
Taken together, the pedal makes for a great buffer, and the clean boost does not add any color to my sound. It's a great combination for my purposes. This would also be useful if you have a ton of true-bypass pedals.
