I would buy again, and recommend to my wah-challenged friends

Comments about Morley MSW Maverick Mini Switchless Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

Was looking for a good wah for a good time. Found it. Ended up with a few in the last 45 years and they always seemed to have the same little problems. Those switchpopping, tone-sucking,dust collecting pedals are now watching this pedal from the shelf. Don't really know what kind of witchcraft makes it work since there isn't anything to adjust or keep clean. The delay time of the momentary swich isn't even noticeable. Job well done.

Comments about Morley MSW Maverick Mini Switchless Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

I'm not sure about this one yet. It might be that I've been using a cry baby this whole time. I think I'll like it better when I set up where the sweep is.

Comments about Morley MSW Maverick Mini Switchless Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

Reviewing two pedals - I purchased the Morley Maverick and Morley Mini Volume - both offered in Morley's Mini format - after using a Line 6 solution with an FBV foot controller for years. Old habits are hard to break - I was used to using the toe-click method with the Line 6 foot controller to engage the Wah/Volume. I had concerns the Maverick would disappear under a size 12 shoe. Not the case, very comfortable. I started playing with the Maverick learning to engage the Wah when the foot is on the pedal - I was hooked. So nice to add a Wah phrase for a passage, then back to normal tone, on the fly. I enjoyed this so much, it was worth expanding to two Mini pedals (Morley Mini Wah and Mini Vol) on the pedal board instead of a single volume/wah combo (Hard-to-find these combos, like a Dunlop Mr. Crybaby, anyway). The Maverick is built well, lightweight and the Wah sweep is good. Swampy' on the heel-down and not-too-much bite with toe-down. Despite what some other reviewers state... I contacted the super-cool Morley support team (Thanks, Scott!) and in 10 minutes learned to make adjustments on the Wah sweep (same adjustment works on their volume pedals). Invest a few minutes and explore how the wah sweep can be changed. Considering weight, The Morley Maverick and Mini Volume combo (2lbs each) compare nicely to a single Dunlop 95Q (3.6lbs). The Maverick exhibits a momentary pause when engaging the wah feature, but I would say it's no more than the time it takes a Crybaby engaging on the toe down motion. (Also, the Mini Volume works great in the effects loop - no tone loss). Check them out.

Fits great on the pedal board. Works when you step on it and is off and quiet when you take your foot off. Durable construction. Best wah I've owned in over 30 years.

Comments about Morley MSW Maverick Mini Switchless Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

        TONE:

Compared to the Mini-Wah (the one with the switch), the tone on this is much 'beefier'. Very nice juicy tone. The Mini-Wah has a 'traditional tone' which is much thinner, less bass tones. I'm putting the Maverick on my board. Much better to me.

        LACK OF VOLUME KNOB:

What Morley needs to do is create a slightly different pedal. What I want is this wah tone, combined with the vol knob from the Mini-Wah. All wahs should have a post-effect volume. You can control the volume with your gtr, but it's a different tone than hitting the pedal full force then pulling back on the output volume.

AN EVEN BETTER IDEA FOR MORLEY:

An even cooler addition would be to have an auto-activated circuit but ALSO have a push button on/off switch (like the mini-wah). BUT that switch would override the auto-functionality. 'Switch on' means the wah is on. 'Switch off' means the wah is activated by your usage (auto-mode).

THAT would be my ideal Morley pedal. Why?

Because during some wah-wah usage you don't want that auto circuit turning the thing on and off. Slow, deep wah work can make the circuit turn the pedal on/off when you don't want it. It's a tad tricky when your foot is treadling it slowly. An 'on / off' override would fix that.

I also wouldn't mind having a true-bypass option, but that's likely not possible with the auto on-off circuit. Still, the buffer on this is pretty darn good. Dead quiet, and doesn't do much coloring of your tone. It adds a bit of volume in my rig, but not a ton. Buffered bypass is great to have in a wah pedal, as they usually come near the very front of you pedal chain. In may case though, I'm feeding it from a wireless unit, so I don't need another buffer in that spot.

Good on paper, but a tone-sucker

Comments about Morley MSW Maverick Mini Switchless Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

The Good: The reason I bought this is because it fits nicely into a crowded pedal board, and I liked that it had an LED to tell me when it is on. I always have hated that my Crybaby wah was sometimes difficult to actually shut off and with no indicator to tell me one way or the other I would get unexpected results when playing. With these Morley's, simply stepping on the pedal engages it, and stepping off disengages it. That's a great feature that I wish more wah's would have. I think those are nice features for the price.

The Bad: On the down side, once I started using this I realized the wah didn't seem to have a very even sweep. Almost all the tone differential from the wah seemed to come very close to the pedal being all the way completely down. Also, this thing turned out to be a complete tone suck. When it's "off", it makes my regular signal sound dull. I'm going to sell it and go spend the extra cash to get one of the high end Dunlops with bypass and an LED. Also, it turns out I like the Crybaby tone significantly more than the Morley's (never realized I cared about my wah tone so much), but that comes down to personal taste.

        Maverick Switchless Mini-Wah

        By Kirkland Jeff

        from Seattle WA

Comments about Morley MSW Maverick Mini Switchless Wah Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal is exactly what I wanted in a wah. I play the bars 3-4 nights a week playing mostly rock and pop covers. Probably less than 10 songs a night need wah to sound right. This thing is quiet, foolproof and fits nicely in my compact pedal rig. The switchless design solves the problem of hitting the switch by accident in a tight space. It has great tone when used clean and doesn't mind being boosted until it screams. If you have a five-foot pedalboard and are a wah-master you'll probably choose something else. For a working musician that just needs one of these tools in their toolbox, it works great. I plugged it into my 1-spot power supply chain with zero problems. Bottom line: it's small, inexpensive, durable and it rocks!
