Knob tweakers and tone freaks, your overdrive pedal has arrived.
The Il Torino Overdrive, the MXR Custom Shop showroom' latest addition, serves up smooth, organic grit with the controls you need to adapt its sound to your carefully constructed signal chain.
Designed by guest Custom Shop engineer Carlo Sorasio, Italy' premier boutique amp and pedal builder, the Il Torino Overdrive uses MOSFET technology to recreate the gain structure of classic tube preamps, allowing it to sing with sweet, touch responsive saturation and natural sounding compression.
Next, Carlo added a 3-band EQ section so you can finely shape the sound of the overdrive.
Finally, Carlo added a BOOST/OD switch to toggle between Boost Mode”a cleaner sound with just the right amount of compression and sustain”and OD Mode”a more aggressive, cranked tube amp sound. This pedal uses a sophisticated bypass system in the form of a Class A Low Impedance Output Driver”essentially a form of buffered bypass”to keep your tone sounding warm and natural across long signal chains where signal loss normally occurs.
It all comes in a sturdy MXR box with all the high quality jacks and switches to make it last on the road.

Comments about MXR Custom Shop Il Torino Overdrive Guitar Effects Pedal:
The title says it all. The MXR Il Torino is a great, budget-friendly, and versatile pedal. It is extremely transparent, and nails that much-sought "your guitar and amp, only more" tone.
In boost mode, the pedal can range from perfectly clean to a mild crunch, with a hint of compression as you turn up the gain, and behaves very much like a preamp. In overdrive mode, there is more gain on tap, up to what I would consider a medium overdrive with moderate compression, similar to what you'd get from a low-powered tube amp with the gain most of the way up. Both modes function very well as boosts for other distortion boxes (fuzzes, muffs, distortions, etc.), with the EQ adding extra tone-shaping abilities.
One thing I would note is that you aren't going to get tons of overdrive from this pedal alone, but both modes function very well as boosts for other distortion boxes (fuzzes, muffs, distortions, etc.), with the EQ adding extra tone-shaping abilities.
For huge lead tones, I have mine placed after a BYOC Large Beaver. It smooths out and compresses the harsher tones of the Beaver and creates a tight, sustaining distortion. Throw in a little reverb and some tape delay (by way of TC Electronic's Flashback) and you've got a recipe for a massive solo sound!
