Despite the ridiculous metal-centric hype surrounding this pedal (if you watch the official interview, Kerry King doesn't seem to know anything about his specific version of the pedal, other than the tattoo design) I have to say that from my experience this is the last EQ pedal I will ever have to buy.

For one, it's built like a tank. Even the sliders feel solid. The paint job looks sharp, and the tattoo is generic enough that you can pretend it's nice abstract art if you're not into that. It also looks cool in the dark.

For two, dual outputs. This rocks in a number of situations, whether you want to power two amps for a clean/dirty tone, set up a stereo effect, or do what I do and chop up your signal paths EVEN FURTHER.

Three, the required 18V power adapter is included. It's a bit bigger so it'll need to hang off the end of your power bar, but whatever works. This is a huge bonus.

Four, it's quiet. I've slowly stepped my way up from a Behringer 7-band to a Boss GE-7 - the only appreciable difference was the Boss's metal case - and found both added too much noise to my signal. Comparatively, this baby makes next to no noise, and you're not limited to cutting frequencies - you can also add them for a boost, and they come through clear as glass with very low hiss. It does span a much larger frequency spectrum than any guitar or bass will need, but this could come in handy if you ever plan to record keyboard or vocals, as I will be doing.

I'm also convinced that completely boosting the lowest 31.25hz channel really opens up the sound, but I could just be fooling myself!

There are both a Volume and a Gain slider. If you're boosted too high and the sound starts clipping too much, the pedal will let you know by flashing, so you can ensure you're getting the best of your sound.

Keep in mind too that this can not only be used to get the most out of your guitar, but it can also be used for a boost on solos, and can make some neat special effects and tones through clever manipulation!

Bottom line is, this pedal is well worth the price for both quality and flexibility of use. Everyone playing an amplified instrument can use an equalizer pedal, and I think it should be the first pedal anyone buys! (even if it's just a Behringer to start) The dual outputs are gravy on top.

Once you put this pedal on your board, you will not want to take it off, and you will not want to turn it off!

This EQ is almost exactly the same as the M-108, the only difference is that it has dual outputs and a tribal design on it. If you really need dual outputs (most people don't) just buy a M-108 and get a spliter. You don't really get anything for the extra money you pay.

I bought mine from a friend desperate for cash, and can I say, This thing is a pure beast! In my situation I use it as Tom Morello puts it, a "goes to 11 box". I only barely tweak a few of the low-mid sliders to scoop out the sound a little bit. Works excellent as a boost for solos or when you just need a little more!! I only use one amp, so having the two outputs is kinda pointless for me, but hey, I get bored with the left, why not switch it to the right output!! Try it, you won't regret it!

Comments about MXR KFK-1 Kerry King Ten Band Equalizer:

I'm one of those people who virtually can't even begin to play my instrument until the tone is perfect to the last nuance. And I've gone to the trouble of getting a guitar with EMG's, outputting through two amps, and a high quality multi effects and distortion pedal and while that tone alone is very very good, I could tell that the tone was just on the edge of sexy goodness. All it needed was a little extra kick without ruining the tone already given from the distortion pedal. This EQ pedal was the answer. After putting it in my chain, the tone was immensely more chunky and the note clarity was three times better. And after dialing the perfect setting on all of my pedals and my two amps, my tone is finally perfect. This pedal is a necessity without question. I can't play without it now. It takes a while to figure out how to get the right sound out of it, but one you do, it's incredible.

Comments about MXR KFK-1 Kerry King Ten Band Equalizer:

If your EQ on your guitar, your pedals, or you amps aren't enough. It's essential to get one of these. I got this because it said Kerry King on it. But everyone knows you need alot of equipment to sound like him. But its a 10 BAND EQ. It doesn't get much more precise then that. All those slight missmatches in your sound will be gone. I don't recommend you get this first because you might not need it.

A must have for all musicians

Comments about MXR KFK-1 Kerry King Ten Band Equalizer:

I use it in my effects loops, it allows me to get my tone with about any amp I use. Before you go buying
an amp or a cab looking for your tone, try this first. This EQ is very quiet. I have used the boss GEQ
forever, it's agreat EQ. But I prefered the MXR this time. I also use it on my Acoustic amp, it's that quiet.
Input & output level controls, good for clean boost in front of the amp. Each slider provides 12db cut/boost.. All the sliders are lit w/LED's when engaged. There are 2 outputs, perfect for dual amp (or a direct line out) set up.
The sliders move with authority, not sloppy at all. The switches are heavy duty. The box is has a
pretty good heft to it. No plastic here. Pretty tough construction.
I think it's priced right. It's well made, well lit & quiet.

this may be the best pedal EVER, don't waste all your money on worthless metal pedals that just eat up your battery and leave you with ZERO tone, just pop this baby in through your FX loop and watch it go, get all the chunk, crunch, edge and solo boost you'll ever need, very clean and clear guitar gain, the best pedal i've used so far, and i've been playing for 9 years. you will not be disappointed!

This EQ is really great, better than I thought it would be. Boost, Gain more than I would ever use. Could be stereo in as well as stereo out and as stated a few more frequencies, for sure. Overall it greatly improved my sound, still tweaking it a tad. Disappointed that MXR didn't provide a few more examples of settings other than the video on line. What, no booklet anymore...........

This is a complete waste of money. The EQ range is a joke. Tried it in several different configurations with my marshall and did not make any magical change in tone. The only thing it did was restrict and choke my original sound.I had better range with a digitech scott ian black 13 pedal and two knobs. I'll stick with my rackmounts, I have a better modeled sound than my actual amp. thought this would let me drive my rig harder and eq some major grind. But nothing but a complete waste of time and money.

Comments about MXR KFK-1 Kerry King Ten Band Equalizer:

I got this thing a couple months ago, I can say it is the best improvement I've had in a while. It really is important to my sound, and I can hardly imagine playing without it.First, the thing is real sturdy. I haven't tried the sledge hammer yet (due to common sense) but it would no doubt still be intact. It is nice to know at least something isn't ever going to break. Next, the thing looks pretty good. It isn't worth anything, but it looks good to me. The important part in the visual is the lights. No matter the enviorment, it is always easy to tell what the settings are. Even when the pedal is off, the volume and gain are still on so you know what the overall change in volume will be. Which brings me to say, the volume and gain aren't as usefull as you might think. most of the time, they will just create feedback for me. I found it best to lowwer the volume and gain and compensate with your amp or other pedals for the perfect feedback free loud you might be looking for.But the best part of this pedal is the versitility. With extreme distortion (like some good digitech effects) you can get some serious scoop-heavy mayhem and smooth tones in clean tone. Overall, this is an asset I won't soon replace. Good job MXR!

This EQ pedal is worth the entire MSRP, and then some. Honestly, I'd give it 11 stars on all four categories. I put this thing right after my TubeScreamer in an effects chain in front of my 10-watt Ibanez ToneBlaster amp with a clean sound being run, and with one stomp of this EQ pedal, my sound cranked up like that. It was as if I was playing a 50-watt amp. It also picked up the crunch of my TubeScreamer. I'm still playing around with the EQ frequencies because this is my first EQ pedal, and there's so much to be done with it. Two horns go out to Kerry King for this awesome pedal! Keep it up!

This 10 band EQ is the best EQ pedal I have ever used! It can make your Gibson LP like Fender Strat, or make your Fender Strat like LP. Variable sound from death to acoustic. And almost noiseless!!! Adjusting gain or volume get no any distortion! To be a solo booster is wonderful too! The only bad is to use 18-volt AC adapter, extra weight for your gig.

I?ve tried several other equalizers, but returned them. The quality just wasn?t there. This is an exceptional accessory in terms of function and quality. I can?t imagine going back to the frustration of trying to get the tone I want for a particular song without an equalizer. You can?t do it with just the tone controls on your amp or stompboxes. An equalizer is not a luxury if you are serious about music or your tone.If you don?t need dual outputs, at least get the M-108, but definitely get MXR (it?s the best) and definitely get an equalizer. The best accessory you can get for your sound. It may seem pricey, but it?s indispensable and, you?ll see, very much worth it.

Comments about MXR KFK-1 Kerry King Ten Band Equalizer:

A great product. Built well. Includes a Level AND Gain slider ... nice touch. No battery option, only adapter (included) ... no problem for me as i like external power sourcing anyway. 10 frequency bans is a good range for guitar, no more (too expensive, belongs in a recording studio) and no less (you need the range for live play). I use two of these boxes in my setup ... one in the front-end after guitar & before my compressor, the 2nd in the FX loop to sculpt the signal going into the power section. EQ'ing is an absolutely essential component to live play ... too many players overlook this, and end up (probably) spending too many $'s on OD/booster/Distortion/contouring, and other devices, when what is really needed is EQ. Your amp can't address the problem, because it's EQ is inadequate due to the lack of specific frequency selections. A sound engineer CAN - in the studio that is, but not live. Get this product (at least one), and get ready to be pleased.
