Well built reliable easy to use and very flexable as far as what it can do despite the fact that is has only two controls.... more knobs to twiddle with don't make things better.
This baby is totaly foot control-able if that is even a word.
I could go on and on about this pedal It's been around awhile I have a really old one and the only differance is the old ones didn't have a lite on them.
This is the best comp box there is and I think the fact that it has only two knobs is part of it .
this is a great box for getting that Nashville sound but that is not all it can do .By setting the threshhold low it can mimic the sound of a tube rectified amp because as a note beguins to die the box brings it back to life so to speak creating sustain. Tube rectifiers choke heavy signals but as the note dies it's voltage increases creating sustain I like to use the little rubber thing on the output control so I can control it with my foot it is great as a volume control. This pedal is not just for country players it will make any amp and guitar sound better ...great really it helps breath life into notes if you don't run the threshold to high it is a monster volume boost get one I have been playing a long time and unless you find an old lab series L-5 amp this is what you should have best tool you will ever own.R.N.H
I think it is a ten and I can't think of too many other boxes that you can really say that about I've had mine thirty years it's unreal I must have gone through dozens of amp's and guitars but I some how held on to this old stomp box heck if it had blew up after a year I probably would still got another one.
I Also had an mxr distortion plus that I lost in a fire and it was a great tool as well.
I thiink I paid about $40.00 in 1979 for one of these baby's and I still have it and it has more than paid for itself I hope they bury me with it. there are always critics out there that nitpic but most of those cats cant play anyway so they blame the gear this thing will make you sound better if you let it.

I like MXR effects often because of build quality and because of the stomp switch, which I find personally more reliable than the treadle-style switch found on most Boss effects (for example). This effect does add the sparkle, and it definitely compresses. However, it is quite modest used as a clean boost. With some guitars, it seems to boost a useful amount, but not with others. I would recommend shopping for one that could add more boost if that is what is needed. Otherwise, it's fine.

Comments about MXR M-102 Dyna Comp Compressor Pedal:

I've been flirting with the idea of purchasing a compressor for some time now. I've been happily using a DOD 250 as a clean-ish lead booster for many years, but more than a few of my buddies have sworn by compressors and the Dyna Comp in particular. I finally pulled the trigger and tested it on a number of axes in a few common scenarios, and I will say that it's earned its place on my admittedly crowded pedalboard.

On plugging it in for the first time, I found the sound quality to be excellent both when the unit was in use and when I bypassed it. When compressing your guitar signal, many reviewers have noted that the Dyna Comp isn't completely transparent and imparts its own tone, and I'd have to agree. The "squash" that is often associated with clean country leads is immediately accessible (sensitivity knob around 11 o'clock), and I was in chicken pickin' heaven within minutes. I didn't consider this to be a drawback at all, and the Dyna Comp was especially adept at fattening up leads on single-coil instruments like my Strat and Tele. Where this really shone was when I was playing live: now when I step out for my leads, they're at a predicable and consistent volume, allowing me to dig in for some twang without drastically changing my volume.

My only critique is with the Dyna Comp's versatility - or more accurately, lack thereof. Turning the sensitivity knob to 1 or 2 o'clock robs me of some dynamics but gives me a touch more sustain. Anything past 3 o'clock is more or less a useless muck to me, although I hear that some slide players love this zone.

Bottom line: grab this pedal if you want to enjoy consistent and articulate leads, especially with a single-coil guitar. It's not as versatile as other pedals in this price range, and you'll only coax a few kinds of sounds out of it. But it's earned its place in my signal chain as a lead booster that has made playing live even more enjoyable.

Comments about MXR M-102 Dyna Comp Compressor Pedal:

This is my first compressor pedal and I love it! Given my lack of experience with compression pedals, I'm not sure what to base this off of but I dig it, plus, it's built like a tank! It has a classic tone and you can definitely get some classic Nashville squash with it. One of my favorite uses for it is on a subtle compression setting paired with a chorus pedal. I would definitely purchase this pedal again.

Comments about MXR M-102 Dyna Comp Compressor Pedal:

Have used many pedals over my 30+ years of playing. This pedal is A) built very well and will last. B) Looks and its small design works in my board. Nice LED light, not to bright. C) 9v or direct power. D) Sound is great. (just find your adjustments, not hard to do.) E) Not to complex to work with. F) Does everything much higher priced pedals will do.

Everyone should have a Compressor pedal in there board. This pedal is a great pedal to have.

I have heard the MXR Dyna Comp in many friends pedal boards but then I was playing thru another friend's board and the comp sound was really dynamic and it turned out to be the MXR. If you want some extra crunch on your sound this is the compression pedal for you.

Comments about MXR M-102 Dyna Comp Compressor Pedal:

I bought two MXR Dyna Comps way back in 1975 when they first came out. Both are still in use today and have never failed me. I just purchased a new one with the LED (older ones didn't have LED's) and am pleased to say that the quality and the sound haven't changed. In my opinion, it beats others that cost twice as much.

Comments about MXR M-102 Dyna Comp Compressor Pedal:

This pedal is an industry standard for a reason. Is it perfect? No. It will color your sound, but that is part of the appeal for many people. I have this pedal, as well as the '76 reissue, and I have to say, I like this one better.

Compressors are tricky to work with, sometimes, and this one is no exception. You will have to experiment to find the sweet spot, but, I will say it is good enough for 90% of musical styles out there. It will work for chicken pickin' for a Tele, and subtle squash with humbucker-equipped guitars, such as a Les Paul.

Yes, you can get a Diamond, Wampler, Empress, etc...but unless you're going to do some recording, there really is no need, unless you just want to experiment. I admit, I have about 7 compressor pedals and the MXR is not the best-sounding of all of them, but it is still my favorite. It just has a character that the others don't.

Comments about MXR M-102 Dyna Comp Compressor Pedal:

After trying out many compression pedals decided to try the DYNACOMP and was absolutely blown away. After getting it home, as even more impressed. After a little tweaking found the sweet spot and it stays on all the time.

A good compressor should add something to your tone without completely coloring it. This pedal does it after a little tweaking. The BOSS sounded the same regardless of where you set it-colored, supersquashed, etc. The MXR has half the dials, and twice the range. In fact, after using it, I don't notice it's there until I turn it off, then it sounds like there's something missing.

Try it, use it, and play around with it, you'll be sure to find a setting that ENHANCES your tone. I did!!!

So I got this to pair up with my Strymon Bluesky ..and it did what I was hoping it would do. But for those buying this .. it actually has more than just one use .. Yes the Sustain is great .. It brings out a lot of the brightness without making it sound like your Pickups are On Fire .. This Pedal can also act as a very Very Loud Booster as well this thing adds a serious Punch with the Sens Cranked. but if you Put the Sens at about half and crank the Output .. 11 on the Marshall Turns into 17 ... But Make sure you have a suppresser because this thing is Technically an Overdrive .. and I got rid of all its hissing as soon as put it behind my NS 2 .. cleared right up
