I needed another EQ for my second board and was about to buy a second Boss GE-7 but this MXR- EQ pedal caught my eye ( and ear ). Boss makes a nice EQ too but for a few more bucks you can get many more features.
One concern was that I had read this pedal was noisey at high settings but it was pretty quiet for me and I did not have to engage my noise gate at all.
I agree with the other review that said some of the sliders do not seem to make an apprecialbe difference but it could just be my ears from years of abuse. But don't be surprised if you turn it on and hit the first slider and hear little change....keep going.
Some things I really liked sound wise was: placing this pedal prior to distortion ( or in front of a tube amp) with the gain slider bumped up a little to really bring it to its full potential. Also if you have another tone effect pedal you are thinking of getting rid of try to pair it up with this EQ first as it can breathe new like into a mediocre pedal or make an already good pedal sound great.
It does take a little longer to dial in the sweet spots with all the MXR's controls as compared to the Boss so be ready for some more tweaking time between the two.
Power: It requires 18VDC with the included wall wart so you may want and extra one down the road or a DC power brick, (no battery power on this one.)
If you want an EQ with a few more (very useful) features , for just a few more bucks, and are willing to spend a few more min to tweak the sound then you may like this one too.
Red LED sliders, handy in the dark and look cool too.Volume "and" gain controlsJust 5.0in x 3.5 in foot print ( not bad for 12 slide controls)Heavy duty enclosure, nice black textured finish, nice weight to it.
With all the extra features it runs only a little more than a Boss GE-7 EQ

I've had this pedal for almost a year and about a week or two ago the input jack stopped working right and you had to move the cable around, I tried a different cable and the same thing happened. Other than it doing that its an excellent piece of gear to have. I play mainly metal and this thing keeps everything nice and tight. The notes I hit are clear even with a good amount of distortion running through it. My heavily distorted tones aren't muddy at all you can hear every note clearly. I keep it in my chain right before my isp decimator and it did its job until the input jack quit working right it's still usable, but it's annoying to have to move the cable every time it goes out.

Comments about MXR M-108 Ten Band Graphic EQ:
There is no way to describe my satisfaction towards this pedal. Within 5 minutes of opening the box, plugging it in and making some minor adjustments.... I don't know how anyone could not want to have this in their chain. I play a Gibson SG Special Black through a discontinued VOX ac50cp2 All Tube amp. So trust me there were no tones that needed to be fixed, but my gosh!! The addition to the tones I can already get, the MXR 10 band EQ is like having a beautiful diamond ring and polishing it!! I run my guitar into a ZVEX FF then into a crybaby wah, into the amp.!the rest of my board I run through the fx loop. As of right now the MXR EQ is the very last pedal in line. I have a feeling it will be a permanent location for this box and I also strongly believe I will never turn it off!! (on a side note I bought a EH METAL MU-F and returned it within a week.. The sound I was looking for in the MM I now have with my own guitar, my own tube amp and now eq. So basically my knowledge of thrashing and metal playing goes to show, you don't have to have all those cheesy add on stomp boxes.) do yourself a favor, if you feel your tone is too low, too high or just right, try this pedal and I Guarantee you'll feel like, "what was I doing before I had one of these??!!"

i cant even remember how long ive had this pedal. but no matter what my rig has been, this has always been in the mix. its pretty much perfect, the actual frequencies youre able to dial in on this thing are obviously geared to the guitar, and thats exactly why everyone should have one of these. it brings my tone to life and has allowed even the worst rigs of the past sound awesome. paired up with a nice compressor this can make your tone sound like a fully mastered recording.

Comments about MXR M-108 Ten Band Graphic EQ:
I play a 4-string 90s Ibanez SDGR bass and a new 5-string Ibanez SR705. My rig is an Ampeg BSP/SVP Billy Sheehan Signature preamp, Crown XLS402 power amp, and a Crate 215 cabinet. I am very picky about my tone and always thought that my rig sounded very good and far better than the average 115 combo amp that many bassists use. I purchased this MXR M108 EQ initially to bump up the low mids that fall out when I play slap-style bass. I was BLOWN away by the difference this EQ made in my rig. I like a lot of low-mid growl, a little sub-punch and a healthy dose of high mid. This EQ gives me what my rig never could on its own. I plan to keep it in the line-up for its initial purpose when I add a 31 band rack EQ in the future. I have been playing bass for twenty years and the addition of this EQ has made my bass sound better than I have ever heard it. I have been recording with my band and for the first time ever, my bass sounds like one of the big boys' basses on the playback. I HIGHLY recommend this EQ to any level of player.

Comments about MXR M-108 Ten Band Graphic EQ:
I purchased the EQ after reading numerous reviews on all of the popular versions by various manufacturers. I decided on the MXR M-108 because of its reviews an 10 band EQ which can easily give you the tone you desire you want on most any guitar. Its can't make up for your desire of an active pickup but it can fatten up the bottom end or brighten up your highs or any thing in between for that matter. I set all of my amps EQ knobs to 12oclock and then use this to get the tone I'm after and it doesn't take long if you "know what your looking for in a tone".

Comments about MXR M-108 Ten Band Graphic EQ:
The main reason I use the EQ is to get a cleaner tone without sacrificing the heaviness of my distortion sound instead it takes some of unwanted preamp buzziness and restores it with a punchier fat mid range tone shaped in the M position opposite of the scooped V.Also the input/output levels are great for either to push sustain in the front end or restore volume attack with deeper tones without muffling or muddying up your sound.
Comments about MXR M-108 Ten Band Graphic EQ:
Just a great bit of engineering.
I put together a pedal board with all true bypass pedals. I thought that this was a wonderful idea. They say the downside of true bypass is signal loss and high end drop. Well they are right and to the extreme. I knew I was going to need a buffer perhaps even two in the signal chain. Even without using any boost the buffer restored my signal .... the rest is just a bonus.
MXR .... enough said. Built like a brick but just the right size for a board. Well done MXR.
How do you put a price on getting your true signal?
Quite a bargain.
