This does amazing things for my rig- I killed the rumble of death I get with my big-gauge strings on an SG standard, and brought out a beautiful crispness reminiscent of an LP with just a little tweaking.

This is also great in dynamic situations too- I was soloing last night and hit a spot on the neck (around the 5th-7th fret on my low-three) where I just could not be heard- higher stuff and lower stuff was fine, but there was this tonal gap where I became invisible- so I simply reached down and nudged up the '800' slider a touch, and WHAM- there I was- cutting above the rhythm guitar player beautifully w/o drowning out the vocals.

BUT... It adds a noticeable hiss- this can get unbearable depending on where in your chain you put it.

I cannot keep it anywhere in the effects loop of my marshall 50w combo- or it drives me out of the practice room.

The most bearable place I found for it was right near the beginning of my chain- directly after my compressor/boost. The hiss is very slight in this spot, I can barely notice it, further down the chain, however, is bad news in *my* rig. The hiss is also very slight (maybe even gone) if I put it *before* my compressor/boost, but I don't like what it does to the compression- so for now it lives right after.

I've heard the Maxon is just as hissy for twice the price, so I'm keeping this pedal until I can afford a WMD parametric EQ for my loop, at which point, I will probably still keep this pedal at the beginning of my chain :)

I bought this pedal expecting to be able to fix my trebly sound, it couldnt if you put the bass sliders any where past the 0 mark it sounds all bubbly and like your gonna break the speaker and if you try to cut the treble you lose all your energy. and and past that it just buzzes so much if the pedal sounded good i could live with it (or buy a noise gate)but considering it makes it worse i plan on returning it.

Everything you need in an EQ!

Comments about MXR M-109 6-Band Graphic EQ:

This is a tough little box! It has Six sliders so you can choose which levels get that added Gain, or if you don't need as much punch from that particular frequency you can bring it down with this EQ Pedal! The construction is rock solid. It's tough and dependable. The sliders light up when it's on, making it easier to set it up on dark stages/clubs. A little bit of movement goes a long way with this EQ pedal... It's beautiful.I'm pretty particular about my sound, I was a little skeptical at first since it was only 6 band, but I have to say I made the right choice! This little box (Which I got the black version BTW, it's dangerous looking!) is crushing... And for the value? Exceptional. I give this 10 stars hands down.

Comments about MXR M-109 6-Band Graphic EQ:

This little box has a lot of tone options! I have a Marshall all valve TSL602 that is a little muddy. This has helped me tighten up my high gain lows a lot. This is a great option to take a classic Marshall sound and make it a little more modern and tight sounding. My only complain is that it adds a little noise.

Really works!

Comments about MXR M-109 6-Band Graphic EQ:

This little eq pedal is built like a tank and works great.I purchased this to be able to cut through during my lead breaks and it really does the trick. I just boost up those middle frequencies just a bit and it's enough to be herd over the other guitar, bass and drums. It is also a great way to clean up your overall signal. I am thinking about getting another to leave on all the time.

Better Than Expected

Comments about MXR M-109 6-Band Graphic EQ:

I don't see anything to complain about with the MXR M-109. I have seen some folks review this pedal and find fault. I just don't see it. I use Gibson Les Pauls Standards and Gibson SG Standards through a 1981 Marshall JCM 800 Stack(all tube) and use a Browtone Electronics Hochee Mama, and thats about it. The MXR M-109 allows me to play at lower volumes and still retain the balls that old tube Marshalls are famous.......
The usual features for a pedal Eq. You'll notice there is no gain control. Don't need it. The frequecy gliders are all you need, and they light up so you can see them on dark stages. And the switch is heavy duty as it gets.........
EXCELLENT QUALITY!! Built like tank, as the say. This thing feels like a small brick in your hand. So if it ever stops working, which I highly doubt, you can use it for a weapon. The heavy duty quality is one of the reasons I bought this EQ. I play a lot, and am on the road a lot. I was using one of those plastic Danelectro EQs and it does a good job on your tone, but was a joke otherwise. If you step on that thing too hard you WILL crack the entire unit. And the gliders will break off in a heart beat. Not good. The MXR M-109 can break too, that is if you hit with a sledge hammer. Otherwise it should last a life time............And the sound is better than the others I have used. As soon as you plug it in your tone is better, even before setting it up. I love this thing and plan on buying a couple more for my road case......Oh, and it's small, which is a plus for me.
Best value out there in my opinion. There are others that are great too, but not at this price.....

Comments about MXR M-109 6-Band Graphic EQ:

This is a great pedal to have. I can get any sound I want. I was going to get the 10-Band EQ but it seemed like too much. I also like how it's so small, it doesn't take up any space on my PB.It adds a little bit noise but it's nothing you can hear when you play. Don't buy the Boss EQ it's not even true bypass.

Comments about MXR M-109 6-Band Graphic EQ:

I own the MXR KFK 10 band Dual Channel Stereo Graphic EQ, and I did own a 6 Band Graphic as well (the vintage one), and I can tell you first hand that a propperly operating unit is absolutely NOISE FREE. In Responce to the bad reviews...you should never post a bad review on a product when it is obviously a defective unit, what does that prove? What you should do is to wait until a replacement EQ is sent to you and then put it through it's paces....and THEN report on it's true performance. Anything else is simply unfounded reporting for the sake of ruining the product's reputation....FYI. Here's my take on the MXR Graphic EQ's: I have played through all 3 of their models plus the 2 original vintage ones, and they all performed flawlessly. They were all quiet, responsive, well built, and added a huge amount of great tones to my set ups and pedals. I am about to order another one for my effects loop. My dual 10 band is currently going to the front of my two 5150's That I run in stereo. They didn't have near enough bottom end for my taste until I added the KFK 10 Band to my PB, and WOW, what a difference. I also added touches of midrange and treble in just the right places and now my set up sounds incredible....I truly have my signature sound now. Thanks MF!

Very nice. Lets you shape your sound to however you want it. Some complain about an extra hiss coming from the pedal when engaged. I have not experienced this and I play at very high gain settings. This can also be used as a boost pedal. Very durable and will last a long time.

I loved the 6 band so much I opt for the 10 band. I perfer the 6. Easy to dial for the most part. my settings look like, down up, down up down with the hi and lowwest hz on the down.
Has a bit of a hiss to the thing usless sliders are flat. The tone that you get is worth the hiss plane and simple.

If this were to get losed I would try another brand but would recommend this as a soild unit.

I installed a DeArmond 210 pickup in a Martin Dreadnought for the ability to run it through my electric guitar rig. After adjusting the pickup and a VOX 15 Watt C1 to the best possible tone I was still missing the bottom end and the higher frequencies were too biting. After inserting this effect between my compressor and supressor with a few tweaks the guitar was balanced up and down the scale. It's also great for tweaking my Les Paul (PP pickups) and SG (P90's) tones. Noisless effect and generally it is always active now on my pedalboard.

There is a bit of hiss from the EQ but not over bearing, perhaps some noise reduction can clean it up. All and all it's very transparent and you can really dial in you tone easy. This little box can do wanders to your sound, 6 adjustments seems about right for quick adjustments when playing out.

Comments about MXR M-109 6-Band Graphic EQ:

I bought this pedal used, and as the second owner I'm impressed with its continued durability and range of tone. First off, it's a tank, like most MXR pedals. Sturdy components and attention to detail (especially the LED equipped sliders that make dark stages a non-issue). Second, and most importantly, this thing does its job perfectly. I bought it to use as a tone control for my amp, a custom built AC10 clone that only has 2 controls, Loud and Louder. I play this through a peavey 212 cab, so while it is perfect for massive humbucker crunch, it's a bit dark for my tele. This EQ pedal solved all my tone issues. It took about 15 minutes of fiddling around to find (and I know this seems cliche) the PERFECT tone for jangly, county style rhythm and leads. My wife can attest to this: she came out to the music room and found me literally jumping for joy, kissing my Tele. No exaggeration.
Anyway, if you have an amp (I'd say probably tube rather than SS, but I haven't tested it on a SS) that needs tonal adjustment, get this pedal. Or, if you want a treble boost, it's good for that too- there IS a slight volume boost that would be nice to have more control over, but I think most of us can live with that- for me, this is a set it and forget it Telecaster pedal, so the volume is what it is... if you're using it for a boost, you probably want more volume anyway. The sparkle this pedal adds to your tone is amazing enough to make you forget what a pain in the rear the customary side mounted AC jack is for running daisy chains, and you really can't beat the price. I'm extremely happy with this product, just as I have been with every other MXR pedal I've owned (Micro-Amp, BA '78, DynaComp).

This pedal is great if you don't have a lot of money to spend and need a bit of fine tuning on your overall sound. I used this when I first got it at the end of my signal chain on my pedal board. This pedal really can give you a lot more gain. So be carefull not to put the sliders to high or your sounds bad. Pretty much it is great for clean up your tone and it can also be used as a boost pedal for soloing. You can roll of the low end and kick up the highs. I just got a Peavey 5150 II and I'm going to try putting it through my effects loop next when get a chance. I hear that is the way to go.

I'm using 2 Fender Jimmy D'Aquisto Esprit guitars (pre-Robben Ford editions) through a '73 Pro Reverb and this pedal gives me the warm, fat tone with the slight overdrive that I've been lookin' for. Great EQ. Purchased my first EQ and used on my pedal board. I like to use to increase volume when switching from a humbucker equipped guitar to a single coil so I don't have to adjust amp. Also shapes tone. Great pedal
