When you need a little boost.

The MXR M-133 Micro Amplifier Pedal adds a preset amount of gain, using a single control. With a guitar, this lets you boost your signal for lead work, adjust between 2 different guitars with unmatched output (i.e., humbucker to single coils), or it can supply a permanent boost in a long effects chain where signal drop-off is a problem. Power: Single 9-volt battery or Dunlop ECB-003 AC Adapter - Controls: Footswitch toggles amp on/bypass (red LED indicates on) Gain knob adjusts total output volume when the Micro Amp is engaged.

This pedal is great. I was looking for something to boost my overdrive tone when I switch out of rhythm into leads. I use a Boss SD-1 super overdrive pedal for a lot of lead stuff, but I also like it for rhythm- this makes it tricky when I don't want to change my tone necessarily, but I need to boost into a lead riff that can cut through the mix (and jump over a drummer who makes brushes sound like broad-swords.) My other distortion is a ProCo You Dirty Rat, but it's too sustain-y to use as a base tone on most songs and I use it mostly as an accent effect for really heavy fuzz or long sustained bends, etc. I'm playing through a Peavey Express 112 (yeah, I know) so obviously the distortion tone coming from the gain channel is worthless. BUT, the clean tone is pretty decent and I'm broke, which is why I still don't have a Fender twin reverb or similar. Anyway, I was going to buy yet another distortion pedal (m78?) so I could have a base distortion and a lead OD but then I found the M-133 and my problems disappeared. Basically, it makes you louder when you need to be. End of story. Super simple, and good at what it does. But it DOES warm up your tone a bit... I happen to LOVE the subtle, subtle change, but be warned, it is there. I found that running it before my SD-1 gave me the best boost sound for that pedal- just a bit more sparkle, warmth, and fullness without any extra sustain or squeeze- sort of like a compressor without the compression, I guess. Same thing goes for my clean tone and clean with reverb. I did notice that it doesn't do much for my ProcoYDR, but all that fuzz makes it hard to tell.
Basically, I bought it to drive my clean reverby tones and my SD-1 and I couldn't be happier with it.
I give it five stars here because even though it only has one knob, it's pretty versatile! Doesn't change your tone, but it does warm it up just slightly at higher gain, and frankly, it sounds GREAT.
Metal case feels super solid, input/output jacks and the 9V recepticle are all snug. Knob doesn't wiggle.
Well, I got lucky and got mine pretty cheap from a guy who bought it from MF and never used it, but even at the retail price I'd say it's a good deal, because it does it's job well and really isn't that expensive. I'd buy it new again if something happened to mine.

This pedal does not 'make your guitar louder' when activated. At least the one I got doesn't. When activated on a clean channel, all the way 'down' - no change, turn up the knob, it adds distortion??? Not exactly what the product claims it does. Maybe mine's broke. ??

Everything it is advertised to do it does. I use it to boost my bass guitar through a pedal chain. Quiet, no distortion boost.

I play acoustic guitar/sing solo. I use a looper so when it's time to take a lead, this little device kicks in its clean boost to make my licks shine over my rhythm pattern. Works great, good quality, sound so nice, keeps my acoustic tone clean, just louder. I've had it about a year, no problems. I suggest you get one!

This little pedal is great if you want a clean boost. If your already running a gain pedal and you want a "boost" for your upcoming guitar solo that won't send your guitar into feedback-this is the ticket. This pedal works best at the end of your signal chain right before your delay pedal.A simple one knob circuit yes-but it works.

Comments about MXR M-133 Micro Amp Pedal:

This pedal does exactly what it's advertised to do. Unity gain with the control all the way down; tons of boost with it all the way up. Great for pushing the front end of a tube amp. It can do everything from a good clean jump in volume for leads to full-out overdriving the front end of your amp. No effect on my tone, just more volume. Compared to other boosts out there, it's a great effect at a great price. Highly recommended!

Comments about MXR M-133 Micro Amp Pedal:

Simplicity at its best! There are a lot of booster pedals on the market now, including trendy high priced ones. The MXR Micro Amp will always be a safe bet and solid choice, if you ask me. The Electro Harmonix Nano LPB-1 is a fierce competetor given that it costs about half the price of the Micro Amp. If you like the midrange boost you get from the LPB-1, that might be the better choice. But, if you want a little more transparency and high end sparkle, the MXR is the way to go. Both pedals are solid, but the Micro Amp's case is significantly heavier and, essentially, bullet proof. This not only makes it potentially more reliable, but also means that it is less likely to tip over or move around on stage. Every guitar player should own a good booster pedal. The Micro Amp will perform that duty well!

Comments about MXR M-133 Micro Amp Pedal:

This pedal is great. It has been a main stay on my pedal board for about 4 years now. It has gone up and down the east coast doing festivals all over. I have had no problems at all with it. It holds up. It doesn't color your tone. you step on it and there is a nice amount of gain to saturate the sound but not too much and then it gives it that extra line level boost. This pedal is amazing! I would highly recommend this to any player weather they be a giging or non giging musician. I have also used this as a boost for solos when using my acoustic.

Comments about MXR M-133 Micro Amp Pedal:

The M-133 is a teriffic gain boost pedal. I've been using mine for years and have had no problems with it. On stage I use it behind my multi-effects processor and it gives me a great boost for lead work or for those riffs that really need to stand out. I also use it when recording to change my gain on the fly. We hired a new guitarist last year that swaps leads with me and I have him using an M-133 now! You could complain about the price but the fact is there's nothing cheaper that works as well and after all isn't it all about the sound? Do you go cheap when you buy your other pedals also or do you buy what you know works? Well this one works great and it's easy to use, you can even change the output with your foot while you're playing just by turning the one knob.
