OVERVIEW

Dial in warm and thick flanging for massive sonic swooshes.

Based on the benchmark sounds of the MXR M117 Flanger, the MXR Micro Flanger guitar pedal features many of the same flanging effects of its big brother, but in a smaller and more convenient size. Originally released in the '80s, this faithful recreation features the same 2 critical controls-a Speed knob to control the rate of cycling, and a Regeneration knob to manage the overall intensity-and stays true to its 100% analog bucket brigade technology for the ultimate in warm and organic tone. The MXR Micro Flanger pedal has been updated with a true bypass switch so you don't lose any tone during bypass. Go from jet plane like sweeps to cool outer space type effects with the MXR Micro Flanger guitar effect pedal.

The MXR Micro Flanger pedal can be powered by one 9V battery (accessed by removing the effect pedal's bottom plate), a Dunlop DC810DC brick, or MC403 Power system (sold separately).

I purchased a flanger because its one of the few effects pedals I did not have yet and was curious.I have had 95% success rate with MXR pedals in the past with sound and build quality and this pedal was no different.
There is a good You Tube video where the MXR phase 90 is A/B'd with this MXR Micro Flanger, check it out to hear the differences explained between the two types of effects . I A/B-tested it myself and found the Micro Flanger sound to be a cross between my MXR - EVH Phase 90 and MXR Chorus. The Micro Flanger had a more spacious but less intense sound than the phaser and added the chimey sound of the chorus in at the same time. Both flange and phase sound great paired with OD or distortion, ( before or after depending on your taste.)
I was hoping to get that jet airplane "swoosh" and it had some of that with the regen ( intensity ) knob at max but not a whole lot. I do not have another flanger to compare this Micro Flange to but also tried it out vs. the EHX Small Stone phaser and the small stone has a more "swooshy" sound it can dial up to me if thats what you are looking for.
The Micro Flanger pedal is quiet engaged and in bypass, no tone nor volume-suck , two knobies for easy dialing in, but not much to look at with the "MXR must have run out of paint colors" -black paint job.

Perfect for a little color

Comments about MXR M152 Micro Flanger Guitar Effects Pedal:

Perfect flanger, for a great price
If you don't need all kinds of crazy flanger and just want to add a little color this pedal can't be beat for the price. It can still get pretty intense if needed, but it is perfect for addinbg a little flange to your tone.
This is my second MRX pedal.
In my opinion they are all buily with great quality.
And you can see there are a ton of old ones out there still working.
Great pedal for a great price!

Great for Cover Bands

By Bruce Bacon

from Boston, MA

Comments about MXR M152 Micro Flanger Guitar Effects Pedal:

I play in classic rock cover band and this pedal does a great job of replicating the flange effects heard over the last 40 years. In a heartbeat you can easily dial in the sounds of Heart, to The Eagles (Hotel California), to Nirvana. I play a '59 reissue Les Paul through a Trans-Atlantic Mesa Boogie and it sounds great. I don't have an effects loop on my amp, but given the true bypass, when I'm not using this pedal, it doesn't alter the tone.
If you want both simplicity and a good range of sounds, the MXR Micro Flanger fits that bill.
Very rugged.
Better sound than more expensive models.

Comments about MXR M152 Micro Flanger Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've used a number of flangers over the years, Electric Mistress, BOSS, G-major, Zoom multi-effects and this has been my favorite. Having only 2 controls, the effects are, in some ways, limited. MXR has locked in the manual and width controls on 'ideal' setting. You control the rate and the regeneration. But what it does, it does very well; great warm, rich tone. My current rig is all analog, except for my reverb, and this effect sounds great. You can go from the "Are You Gonna Go My Way" swoosh, to a watery warble. You can't get the really jangley, metallic sound of the Electric Mistress (which I've never really liked). So for me, the range of available tones is perfect and what I've always been looking for from a flanger. It is true that there is a volume jump when engaged, but I've never used a flanger that doesn't have that issue. Like others have said, if you're looking for a thickening and some texture, it's perfect. If you want a huge range of effects, warbles, jangles, and laser sounds, you may want to get the 'full version.' I tried the 117 and found it too complicated and more than I needed. With all the various flangers I've tried, I was always trying to get that thickening effect, and the micro flanger gets me there fast.

The only reason I give it a 4/5 is because right before I bought this, I saw a like new, used 117 for the same cost as the Micro and wonder if I should have gotten that for the versatility. But, it's a top notch effect.

Comments about MXR M152 Micro Flanger Guitar Effects Pedal:

The sound quality works equally well cleaned up or with a high level of overdrive. It's really simple and straightforward. There's not a huge range of variability, but any place you dial in is a very usable sound, especially for my taste. I feel like a little flange goes along way.

Comments about MXR M152 Micro Flanger Guitar Effects Pedal:

First off, I was attempting to find my best bang for the buck and this was the 2nd Flanger I ordered from MF. This one and the 1st were returned. I tried every possible setting(which is very limited) to get a decent sound for the money I spent, I couldn't. It wasn't for lack of trying, I even used 4 different guitars, A Les Paul Standard, Junior, Strat and a Jackson DXMG. No matter what I tried I could get nothing close to the jet plane, gentle whoosh or for that fact anything I'd like to play that long. I was playing thru a VOX AC15 so with that amp and the many different guitars used to get anything satisfying I gave up and returned it. I ended up with the DIgiTech Turbo Flange and seven days into it I'm still in love with how flexible it is. The MXR gives you 2 knobs and not much in between. The only two things I like about it are: 1)it's sturdy as hell, give it that and 2)it's true by-pass. With that said, it got returned and replaced with a more superior product.

I love the MXR Micro Flanger. Its impossible to get a bad sound out of it. Dial down the regen, and up the rate and you can get into nice chorus territory. I have never come across such a useful and such a warm musical flanger as this and I have been thro a few flanger pedals. I gave had it 3 years now and I am never tired of the beautiful sound it makes. I have in the FX loop of my marshall JVM and it handles gain wonderfully too.

Comments about MXR M152 Micro Flanger Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is a great pedal if you are not into tweaking the flange results. The flange tone it does produce is very good, but if you like to play with the sound it is limited. I like it because it is simple and gets pretty much the flange effect I like. Made strong and should last a long time. It does boost the sound a touch and stomped but you have a volume knob on the guitar!

Comments about MXR M152 Micro Flanger Guitar Effects Pedal:

This little Flanger sounds excellent and doesn't take up much valuable space on my pedal board. This pedal is easy to use, for live use just set and forget. Worth mentioning is if you record, this pedal is quiet enough when engaged that excessive hissing and sweeping noises in the stems isn't an issue. There are a lot of positive reviews for this pedal because it does exactly what it is supposed to do very well. If it died on me or somehow disappeared from my studio I would buy another one.

MXR has reissued a really nice flanger. While not having as much tonal flexibility as the full size MXR Flanger, another great reissue as well, this pedal is excellent when pedalboard space is at a premium and you just need the basic flanging sounds. And there are alot of great possibilities even with just 2 knobs. MXR is really making some great pedals these days !

This is a great reissue of the orignal pedal. I was worried that with only 2 knobs I might get the sound I wanted. But I was wrong, you can get just about any of the sounds the M117 has, without the high price.

First off, I have to say that I am not a fan of flangers. The main reason is that I don't really know what I'd do with them, but I somehow traded an xbox controller for this pedal (great deal, I know) and I realized that I really like this pedal. Sure, only two knobs, but the effect is very subtle (even though there's a +8 dBu) and has a very warm tone. When I pair this with my MXR Wylde Chorus, it ALMOST sounds like an organ...
