OVERVIEW

The Talk Box is a classic effect-you can hear it on some of the greatest songs ever recorded, across genres and time, from funk and '70s rock to hard rock and metal. Its unique, highly expressive character is instantly recognizable. The MXR team has fine-tuned the Talk Box for modern gigging convenience and tone sculpting while maintaining the unmistakable sonic character that made the effect legendary. With its own amp and speaker driver, the MXR Talk Box is compact and pedal board-friendly-you don't have to lug around a separate rig or patch into your amp's speaker output. And with Volume, Tone and Gain controls, you can shape and add texture to your Talk Box voice for maximum impact. Like all MXR pedals, the MXR Talk Box is built into a sturdy, road-ready housing to endure the rigors of the road. Includes an 18-volt power supply, an 8' surgical tube and a mic stand clip.

Channel the '70s rock sound with this modernized Talk Box from MXR.

Comments about MXR M222 Talk Box:

I am a stickler for authenticity. It's an obsession, actually. I'll search far and wide to get the same guitar, slide, stomp box, pick, etc. that the artist used. So when I found out that Frampton and Walsh used the Heil talk box, I had to get one myself.

What I didn't know, was that the Heil was trailing edge technology. It was the prototype back in the day, and difficult to work with. Heavy, cumbersome, required a lot of cables, and if you hooked it up wrong, you could blow your amp.

So I finally decided to try the MXR. It is perfect. Compact, easy to use right out of the box, fits on my pedal board, and most importantly, sounds EXACTLY like the Heil. Plus, there is no chance of damaging my amp.

If you ever wanted to try a talk box, this is it. I'm glad I have the Heil for nostalgic reasons, but I'll probably never use it again. The MXR is definitely the way to go.

A Good Box, Just Not For Me

Comments about MXR M222 Talk Box:

I bought this talk box hoping to recreate the sounds of Peter Frampton, Bon Jovi, and more. It seems like it could be great for certain genres, but if you're looking for the high levels of crunch that Richie Sambora uses live, then this is not the unit for you. I've tried heavy distortion, high gain, and more, and it just wimps out. Also, the mouth tube is this behemoth of plastic that is very awkward to use. Some talk boxes have a more user friendly tube that is a bit smaller, but this is more like having PVC pipe in your face. I'd say get the Rocktron Banshee or the Dunlop Heil, both of which I have gigged on, and are much better for what I use them for. I still think for calmer songs without a lot of crunch, this box could have some use, it's just not for me.

I've wanted a talk box for years. Perfect for sounds reminiscent of Alice and Chains, Frampton, but I like to add it to some of Jimi's stuff too, sounds great on Voodoo Chile'. Very impressed so far.

Comments about MXR M222 Talk Box:

Never used a talk box before but loved the sound, and the time was right so I got one. Right out of the box, the unit was clean, and looked to be fully functional. After hooking the unit up I was blown away!!

The sounds you get from this are very fun, and the signal coming out of the tube is loud enough where you don't need a mic, if your at home, or jamming.

The unit is solid, and I'm glad I finally picked one up. I would recommend the MXR Talkbox to anyone looking to have some fun.
