Comments about MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter Effects Pedal:

I've been playing bass for about 33 years, mostly hard driving classic rock and metal, and I must admit that I was never into using effects (except compression) very much. I'm all about solid attack and great tone and I've always felt that whatever effect I would put on the bass seemed to take away from one or the other or both! For me, I was never willing to sacrifice my tone to get an effect.
Recently my band decided to cover a song that had some funky keyboard stuff going on. we do not have a keyboard player, so I decided to take a chance and buy an envelope filter to try and emulate some of that sound. I read the reviews on various models and what sold me on this pedal was the ability to add my dry sound to the effect.
I went to my local Guitar Center and purchased the M82 with the assurance that I could return it if I didn't like it. I got it home and plugged it in and WOW! I instantly fell in love with it did to the bass! This pedal is amazing! Not only can I get a myriad of really cool sounds, I can also dial in how ever much of my dry sound that I want and keep my underlying attack and tone. I like to use it mostly as a subtle effect behind my primary tone. The sounds I can get doing this are just the coolest thing ever!
All in all, I think this pedal will open new dimensions to the way I play and I am so glad I took a chance on this one!

Comments about MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter Effects Pedal:

I've tried almost every filter out there, and none have the ability to adjust the mix like the MXR. The EBS sounds really good, but missing the level controls. Great sensitivity control also. And just as someone else said, pair this baby up with a BassMuff distortion and you've got something real close to the old school Jet Phaser~!

      Great sound

Comments about MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter Effects Pedal:

I've tried several envelope pedals over years. Anything cheaper sounds thin and doesn't have the controls this one does. There are more expensive ones but I don't think you can beat the overal. bang to buck ratio and sound on this one.
Having both dry and wet mix knobs allows you to get funky without losing punch.
It's MXR - they are all built well.

      FINALLY!

Comments about MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter Effects Pedal:

This is the envelope filter pedal to get.
An envelope filter with the right sensitivity... It always seemed that others aren't sensitive enough or you don't have enough control over the effect. This one gives you complete control and sounds awesome.
      Not cheap but fairly priced.

      MXR really has outdone themselves.

      By

Comments about MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter Effects Pedal:

This really is my most impressive pedal. Whenever I click this on my band mates just light up. I tend to get a Les Claypool a la Phantom Patriot sound out of it. It's very fat and bubbly, funky and nasty sounding without losing your tone or place in the mix. You may have to crank the sensitivity pretty high for low output passive basses and the decay knob that controls the sweep stop frequency can cause feedback if set a little too low, which can be a good or bad thing. My settings are (o'clock) dry 1, wet 1, decay 11, Q 1, sensitivity 3.
The best feature by far is the ability to blend the dry and effected signals. This simple option can make any effect sound a little better, especially for bass and live application. Adding a rate knob for the envelope sweep (for extra quick or slow exaggerated sweeps) or a reverse sweep mode would have made this pedal perfect, but are not neccessary.
Masterful worksmanship was put into this pedal. The metal box as well as the knobs are beyond sturdy and the paint job and bright LED are really cool, pictures online don't do it much justice. Sound quality matches the quality of the build, top notch.
This pedal is fairly priced. You don't feel cheated when you buy this, but you don't feel like you got a steal either.

just tried it - seemed ok

Comments about MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter Effects Pedal:

I gave this a test run against the EBS Bass IQ - the EBS pedal sounded better, so I went with the EBS even though it was $55 more. That said, I wasn't disappointed with the MXR product and it sounded just fine.

      Funkified!

Comments about MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter Effects Pedal:

This pedal will open doors to new playing immediately! It's simple in design, yet the controls give you a wide range of funk dynamic. It's a tiny little thing, but rugged and well-built. I did a lot of comparisons with other envelope filters, and while this one may cost a little more than some others, you will not regret shelling out a little extra dough. I started playing thru the MXR recently at our gigs and talk about presence! If you want to take your bass playing to a new level, GET THIS PEDAL.

      Fantastic Pedal

      By

      from Jackson, MS

Comments about MXR M82 Bass Envelope Filter Effects Pedal:

I checked out every bass envelope filter currently in production. This one was by far my favorite. Versatile effect, with control knobs for every parameter. To me it just sounds so much thicker than any other EF, and I'm loving how small it is. I use a cutting board for my effects and space is definitely a factor. No on-board distortion but it works extremely well with my Bass Big Muff, which is a much better distortion than that of any other envelope filter which has one built in. It's not very heavy, but it seems to be very durable. I use this in the effects loop of my Tonebone Bassbone bass preamp, into a Peavey VB-2 all-tube head stacked on two Ashdown cabs, a 210 and a 115.
