This wah cries with versatility.

Bob Bradshaw of Custom Audio Electronics designed the MXR MC-404 CAE Crybaby Dual Inductor Wah Pedal with the Crybaby design team to create a highly versatile wah-wah with top-grade components. The MC404 CAE Crybaby features dual Fasel inductors with 2 distinct voices (high-end emphasis or low-to-mid resonance), and a built-in MXR MC-401 Boost/LineDriver that adds even more flexibility.

Choose between inductors and turn the boost on or off with the side-mounted kickswitches. Bright LEDs on each side of the wah indicate operation status. The MC404 Crybaby wah boasts true hardwire bypass, a long-life CTS potentiometer, and internal pots for the Q control—which varies the intensity of the wah effect—and gain adjustments. You get the high performance and quality that you expect from Dunlop, the world leader in wah-wah technology.

Bob Bradshaw has been one of the world's foremost designers of custom guitar pedalboards and effects systems for many of rock's most influential guitarists for 3 decades. And for just as long, MXR and Crybaby have been synonymous with the effects pedal innovations that have shaped the tone of modern electric guitar playing. So it was only natural for them all to join forces to create a dynamic line of pedals offering the ultimate in tone, functionality and road-worthy dependability. Since 1980, CAE's groundbreaking pedal designs were made in limited quantities only for a select clientele of world-class guitarists. But now these very same devices and circuits are available to all.

Great Wah

Features:

I've owned a couple of boutique wahs over the years.  I'm a fan of the Budda Budwah, and Area 51 Wah, both of which I've owned.  Basically, I wore out the budwah, bought the area 51, wore that out, and after some careful consideration, I decided to try out this MC-404.  It's right up there with the boutique stuff.  The features put it a notch above other pedals at this price point, IMO.  Both inductor settings sound very soulful and classic.  The red setting works best for humbucker stuff, like satriani, etc. and the yellow setting is best for classic stuff like clapton, hendrix, etc... strat pickups.  The boost works great.  I find it to be most useful at lower settings but I have fairly hot pickups as it were.  The indicator lights are a very welcomed feature... hope they last.  The build quality ranks high upon initial examination and use.  MXR may have hit a homerun with this pedal.  They've had some other homeruns over the years and I wouldn't be surprised if this pedal gains a cult following in time.  At this price point, I feel it's very much a fair consideration.  My favorite things about it are that: It sounds very vintage and soulful but has dual settings that are equally useful and in a way like having 2 wahs in 1.  The boost is useful even though I could live without it, it works well.  It feels GREAT right out of the box and is the first wah that I didn't need to tweak the sweep on after 5 minutes of playing.  It turns on and off like a finely tuned machine.  I highly recommend this wah if you're debating "vintage", "boutique" pedals.  It has alot to offer and is of high quality manufacturing.

great pedal, but most of the range i found is in that 60%-100% range so if you plug it in and jam it back n forth expecting all this crazy variation, you're gonna blow over the sweet spots n be disappointed. in a way it's nice because it takes little effort to use.  i need to mess around a bit with the mid range (red) setting, it backs off a lot n i can barely hear it on my neck p/u but i'm sure it'll come in handy somewhere and i'm an instant fan of the boost!

I've been looking for years for a pedal to replace my Vox Wah and this is it!  I'm impressed with the smooth switching between functions and how quiet it sounds when played.  Should you be playing Hendrix or Clapton this is what you want.  Even Motown and R&R  music venues will greatly be enhanced by this quality durable pedal.  Put it on your Christmas wish list!

I bought this pedal over a year ago. Sound wise it did not disappoint - the most beautiful organic wah I have ever heard and its great to be able to choose between two different wah sounds and to have true bypass as well as an on/off switch. The LEDs are bright and easily visible on stage. The pedal is built like any other dunlop pedal, read awesome. However I gave it a 4 on quality as the boost function stopped working soon after I bought it. I couldn't give it back as I live in India and had a friend carry it from the states. What basically happens is that when I engage the boost switch there simply is no sound. Thank God the Wah works fine otherwise, else it would have been an expensive mistake. Without this problem I would have rated this pedal 5/5.

my search for a wah is over, this thing is awesome. Ive had the standard vox and crybaby wahs before. this blows them all out of the water. Had a little problem trying to run it inline with my other pedals but I bypassed it by just running it straight to my amp and not through the loop. love it
