OVERVIEW

Full-spectrum distortion and true bypass.

The DigiTech SC-2 HardWire valve distortion pedal captures the full spectrum from today to yesterday: from classic rock crunch to modern high-gain sounds, and all the flavors in between. Crunch/Saturated mode switch, level, gain and low and high tone controls allow you to use the SC-2 pedal to further tailor your sound.

The DigiTech HardWire pedal series represents DigiTech's commitment to quality and attention to subtle details. In addition to technical enhancements like true bypass and high voltage operation, all HardWire pedals feature rugged, all-metal construction, a wide, stage-stable footprint, durable, custom-machined metal knobs for a sure grip, and precision potentiometers that guarantee knob positions will stay intact.

The rugged, durable construction of Extreme Performance Pedals is just the beginning. Inside each HardWire pedal are technological features that serious players require—all updated and improved to their utmost capacity. True bypass preserves the purity of your original tone as signal passes through the pedal, and high voltage operation further protects your sound by eliminating clipping and other signal degradation caused by power drain.

With the high-output pickups found on some electric guitars, it's not unusual to hear clipping when playing through an effects pedal. This occurs when the voltage range produced by a guitar's pickup is greater than the operating voltage of the effects pedal—normally limited to the voltage supplied by the effect's battery or power supply. HardWire pedals incorporate circuitry that increases the operating voltage headroom above that of the typical pedal. As such, HardWire pedals benefit a wider range of guitars and are also at home in an amplifier's effects loop.

HardWire Pedals include the following stage accessories:
Stomplock™ knob guard locks your tone in place and prevent tampering or accidental knob adjustments onstage

    Versatile Distortion

    By CJ Smithey

    from Central IL

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I used to play for a youth worship group, and with no decent amps readily available I had to rely on this for my distortion. It got the job done just fine. Even better than my buddy's Ibanez Tube King. So no complaints there. Then I began to use it with my hardcore band. I had an amp for that, so I just used this to add a little volume when I had a solo. It wasn't bad. Obviously it's not made to be a clean boost, however with the right tweaking it can happen.
I now use it as an extra grit pedal. I run a Squire Affinity Strat into a Peavey 5150 and use the pedal off and on to add extra insanity to my tone or to just overdrive my amp completely and get nasty feedback.
I've used this as everything from my only source of distortion (heavy and classic-y), to a gain boost, to even a slight cleanish boost.
Heavy-duty is an understatement. This thing has survived falling off a moving truck and sitting on the side of the road for a night and my band's wreckless stage behavior.
For the possibilities you have available, it's pretty sweet.

Knob tweaking go's a long way

    By Saul A.

    from Tallahasee, FL

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

First thoughts - The pedal itself feels very solid with a healthy weight (not like it's actually heavy, it at least doesn't feel hollow like other pedals) and surprisingly shiny. Features - The pedal is in fact metal however the stomplock that comes with it is not... but I personally think thats a good thing. It's made out of a dense rubber so hard stomps wouldn't put dents in it. All of the knobs have a solid click that you can feel whenever you turn them ensuring that they're already set in place fairly well. As well as the switch feels very tight.Sounds/versatility - I'll start this section off with what I didn't like; the level knob, gain, AND bass knob all control the output db's of the pedal. Which means if you don't like much bass and cut it out of the signal by a moderate amount it will cut the signals output more so than cutting back the level knob. Now everything else I rather fully enjoyed with this pedal. In crunch mode you can roll back on your guitars volume knob and it will clean right up (which i love being able to do that with a pedal). For my live set-up I use it as a booster pedal and keep it on the entire time and just roll back on my guitars volume so I don't do a lot of tap dancing, however in the studio I have been able to use the pedal to record stacking tracks that give excellent spacing between guitars on the left and right, even when all tracks are used with the same guitar and amps.Value - The fact that it is a boutique pedal, (or borderline anyways) has automatic true bypass, is made of all metal, and has the ability to be used as a boosting pedal and a rich distortion pedal I think it's price-tag is definitely a fair price. Final Thoughts - I believe that this is a mighty good pedal that can be used in both live and studio applications (just as long as you don't put it in saturated mode and crank the level and gain all the way, because it will get a bit noisy). It has a decent price tag and ought to be able to take a beating. So I would recommend this pedal to any one that wants a pedal that can do most musical styles just short of heavy metal.

    Great sounding pedal

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought the Hardwire SC-2 a while ago and use it just for bedroom playing as I was looking for a little better distortion sound than what I get out of my 150 Watt solid state amplifier. I have purchased Digitech's effects pedals before and wasn't overwhelmed by anything sounding outstanding but when I saw this pedal, I thought I would give it a try because it looked very cool. I had to make a choice between the Valve Distortion SC-2 and the Tube Overdrive CM-2. I watched some comparisons on the internet and thought the SC-2 was more up my alley than the CM-2. So I bought it and have fallen in love with it ever since. -Solid, heavy, and rugged metal casing. -Good gripping rubber to stomp on.-Distinct noise when engaged and True Bypass to keep your amps tone perfect when the pedal is turned off. The sound is amazing and really gives my non-tube amp the sounds that a tube amp would produce. I would recommend to anyone looking for better distortion sounds.

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Just got this and Im blown away. It makes my little SS amp sound tub'ish. Its a very organic sounding distortion that throws the classic marshall tone to die for. Its that perfect rock tone.. heres the kicker.. roll back the gain and a strat just purrrrrs through it. This pedal is so versatile.. its moved my OD pedal off the board. Getting ready to get the metal pedal next...the Boss power stack sounds like mashed taters compared to this thing.. one snobs beware. If you over look this because its a Digitech product.. you will miss out!!!!!

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have spent alot of time trying to find a distortion pedal that sounds like a cranked tube amp and this is the closest thing so far. I went through alot of boutique pedals but they sounded really fake compared to this thing. It sounds amasing through my Fender 59 Bassman and my Hot Rod Deluxe. Put a OCD infront of it to boost it for solos( noise gate is essential if you do tho). Great job Hardwire.

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This is one of those pedals that you like quite a bit at first but after a while it leaves you wanting more, particularly if you play through a few other distortion pedals and get a taste of something else. This offering from Hardwire is fairly vintage in tone (70's) but overall it's kind of generic sounding. The Crunch setting sounds fairly natural, whereas the Saturated side is a little fizzy and not really all that heavy when stacked up against other quality pedals (the Radial stuff for example). Like all the Hardwires, the build quality is excellent and it looks sweet; and the price is indeed nice for such a solid pedal. As is the case with most (if not all) distortion pedals, the amp you put this in front of decides the fate of you overall tone. This thing favors American tubes and sounds surprisingly good though a cheapo solid state box; British tubes hate it (worst sounding pedal though a Marshall ever). In short, this is good entry level dirt box but nothing to rave about.

First impressions with the Hardwire SC-2

      By constantino batzakis

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I bought the Digitech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal pedal recently, and immediately started to play around with it. I played it through a 15`` Marshall solid state amp. The guitar used was an Epiphone Zakk Wylde Bullseye Les Paul. I have to say that the pedal has been a true disappointment. I like the tone, and the distortion variety. The thing that disappointed me was the effect the pedal has on the sustain of my guitar. It seems as if the pedal drained completely the sustain, and makes it impossible to play mellow solos, such as the "November Rain" solo. It feels like it cuts the notes, and doesnt allow them to flow softly. I actually prefer the distortion of my small amp, and I think that is saying a lot. Its a good pedal overall, but you have to have something to compensate that frustrating effect. I played around with the settings as much as I could before I got desperate and disconnected it, playing only through the amp afterwards. I would say that the pedal is perfect for a classic type of distortion, and typical rock solos. But it fails when it comes to play a solo from a ballad. All in all, good pedal, for a very specific type of playing.

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

For a few years now, I have been looking for what I considered the perfect overdrive/distortion pedal. I may have found it in the Hardwire Valve Distortion. This baby is built like a tank and performs great. I've had it on my board for a few months now, and we'll see how she holds up, but so far she has scored 100. More than an overdrive and less than a distortion, this pedal gives me the sounds I have been hearing in my head. Demons? Maybe so. But after Tubescreamers, Radial Bones, Visual 808 clones, Monkeys, and a myriad of others, this pedal is the one. I'm playing a Strat, Tele, 335, and old Ovation Tornado thru both a Vibrolux and a Tech21 Trademark 60. All combinations sound great. No longer am I confined to the mid-boost of all the tubescreamer clones. I prefer an OD sound that does not have that midrange boost pre-programmed in. I can sound like me... and not every other guy who has a mid-hump TS clone. The mids are there if I want it, but when I want to dial it out I can. Overdrive blues, rock distortion (no metal), and clean jazz with great sustain. I just can't say enough about this pedal. I turn on the saturation, and run the drive at about 1:00, bass at 2:00, treble at 11:00 and level at about 10:00. Cleans up great with my volume control and I get all the distortion I need with bridge pickup and cranking the volume. Comes with custom cut velcro pad for your pedal board, glow in the dark pad for dark stages, and a StompLock, which is a hard rubber cover for your knobs. When you find your sound and don't want to mess with the settings, pop this baby on and you're good to go. A really ingenious addition!A word about customer service. I emailed to ask where to buy another velcro pad. Had an answer in one day and they're sending it to me... FREE!!! How's that? This is quite simply the best od/dist pedal I have ever seen in 40 years of playing. It works great for me and I'm not looking anymore. For a while.

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

This pedal just came on the market and the moment I tried it I was sold. It is exactly the distortion pedal I have been looking for to complement my Ibanez TS9 Tube Screamer. The crunch mode is good but with the TS9 I don't need it. I'm going to run it with the saturated mode and it is perfect for those songs that need just a little more than an overdriven sound. By far the brightest distortion tone out there and it doesn't sacrafice tone at the high gain levels. If you want to hear what it is similar to in a live performance listen to Paul Colman's tone on the song "Shine" from the Newsboys live cd called "Houston We Are GO". I love this pedal and it will never leave my pedal board, looks great, built like a tank, best feature is the knob cover. For the money you can not beat this pedal. I run it though a Vox ac15 but the store had it hooked up to a Fender Blues Jr. and both amps sound awesome with it. Don't hessitate buy this pedal today!

      Pretty Sweet

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I gave this pedal a try after a heard a few sound clip's online. It's a very clear (i.e.un-muddy) sounding distortion and the crunch side sounds a lot like the HP switch on a Fulltone OCD(which I just sold). But, I'm using the saturated side which is higher gain(not metal high-gain) and it sounds very big, amp-like, good sustain. The EQ takes some getting used to because it's real easy to over-do-it, it can sound tinny if is not set-up right.Overall, I'd say if the other Hardwire pedal's sound as good or better then Digitech has a real winner here(Boss watch your back's). I like the heavy-duty construction of these pedals(there slightly bigger then the X-series) and they are built tougher if you ask me. Plus, True-Bypass is just the iceing on the cake really. I couldn't tell how much of a buffer my EH PMM had until I played the Valve Dist, with the SC-2 it sounded just like I had plugged straight into my amp:)

      Excellent distortion pedal!

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

      Excellent
I bought this pedal after watching a lot of videos on youtube, from the first time I used it, I was blown away by the tone quality this thing produced, I have a cheap squier guitar and a small practice amp, my tone improved a lot. The SC-2 has a very balanced distortion, and lots of output, this thing is loud! I like that it has two EQ knobs, low and high, so I can shape my tone more precisely. I also love the construction. The SC-2 is built like a tank and it's true bypass. Another feature I like is that it won't sound weak when the battery is dying (I don't have a power supply) it will always be completely operational.

I highly recommend this pedal...Buy it now. You won't regret it.

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I've spent a lot of time and money trying to find good distortion pedals. I'm sure everyone knows just what I mean. Well I've always liked Digitech pedals, have fooled around with some pedals of the HardWire series, and I saw some good video reviews of this pedal so I decided to try it. What a great surprise! This is a very versatile pedal and like all in the HardWire series it's built like a tank and looks really nice. I found this pedal to give quite a bit of distortion, enough for classic rock and punk rock. You can easily get MANY different tones out of this pedal, and they all sound pretty good! But like I said I find it especially good for classic rock and punk rock type tones. It also works good in low gain applications. The sound quality from this pedal is great too, so it's great for recording!

Just one thing to keep in mind: in my experience with this pedal, I find it doesn't really fit the bill for metal. This does put out quite a bit of distortion really, usually enough for most hard rock and industrial songs I play, but if you need loads of overpowering distortion, you may need to get a second distortion pedal. I really do like this pedal and highly recommend it. But I guess one distortion pedal can't be expected to do it all if you play lots of different types of music.

Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

Ironically, I didn't like it at first. It was hard not to dial in too much. But alongside my Hot Rod Deluxe's own drive channel or an Ibanez Tube Screamer for that classic light crunch, this pedal sings as my moderate to heavy rhythm distortion phase. It has incredible versatility and its intelligent features rival that of a boutique pedal. Its controls help you shape the frequency of your sound, its Saturate switch lets you dial in killer sustain on an articulate, yet robust drive. It includes an AC chord and a rubber guard to hold your settings in place. It's an unreal value for the versatility today's diverse genres demand.

I have to say when I first saw this pedal I knew right away I had to try it out. I set it my way and I fell in love with it I said to myself this is a must have. I play through a vox and with this pedal and some effects trough my amp made this thing sound magical. It?s got more of a British distortion sound to it but you can set to any thing and the little switch is good because you can get a lighter crunch or a heavier sound from the pedal. I use a fender Tele USA high way one tricked out with some fender custom shop tele Texas special pickups and it makes it all the better sound. This thing is a must have for any musician. it also comes with a protector for the knobs and little switch plus a Velcro sticker so it stays in your pedal case without moving around. The there is also a glow in the dark sticker for the front so when your playing on a dark stage you can see it. For the money it?s a great deal buy this thing today

New line from Digitech, affordable boutique style pedals, definitely worth a look at. I bought it mostly for the true bypass that works great by the way.Very solid pedal that has everything you need to create a classic rock sound. On the crunch mode, with my setup(telecaster + Fender Blues Jr.)I get a very clear distortion sound where you can hear every notes of a big open chord ring beautifully. Exactly what I was looking for, somewhere between an overdrive and a fuzz. The saturated mode sustains notes forever, perfect for soloing. It's a keeper!

This pedal line continues to impress. Picked up the tube overdrive and was duly impressed enough to order this one via mail. Delivers as good as the first one!! Nice, chunky and with an incredibly hot output. If you can't afford that original Marshall Plexi amp, this is the next best thing. I may have to grab a few more pedals in this line. Comments about DigiTech Hardwire Series SC-2 Valve Distortion Guitar Effects Pedal:

I have a Fender Blues Jr. and the gain on it was only ok, and as the tubes got older, the sound got muddier, so I went to a music store and explained what i wanted, and they brought me to the Hardwire Pedals. I played the tube overdrive one, and it would be perfect for somebody who wants creamy blues distortion, but I was looking for an edgier rock tone, so I tried the metal distortion. It sounded really good, but I don't play a lot of metal, so I tried Valve Distortion. This is such a hardcore pedal. The gain is completely unique at certain settings and the variety of gain you can get is incredible. This pedal can easily handle any kind of music you throw at it. Anyway, if you like your guitar to sound good, get this pedal, if not, get something else.

I bought this pedal because my multi-effects pedals were starting to sound a bit too digital for my tastes. I got this pedal earlier and fired it right up.... there are so many different tones you can get with it! It is plenty heavy enough to slightly dip into the metal but it is best suited for rock of all sort. If you want a good distortion pedal, buy this.
