OVERVIEW

(Open Box) A rack-mountable head made to dominate your studio.

Featuring the same great Ironheart tones as the bigger heads but in a low-wattage studio package with some neat features added.

It would be nice to record in a situation where making a lot of noise was not an problem, but in most cases people are recording in home studios, and making a lot of noise is not always an option. So the Ironheart IRT-Studio has a couple of features designed specifically to allow you to get a great tone whether you are recording in the studio or recording live.

The IRT-Studio features a USB Audio I/O and a RE-AMP send jack. The USB supplies both a dry signal and the processed signal - split left and right to your DAW - directly into either your PC/Mac or iPad, which means that you can alter the guitar tone of your original recording - without having to re-track anything!

The IRT-Studio has an internal dummy load, so, unlike a conventional tube-loaded amp, you don't need to connect an external speaker - which gives you truly silent recording.

It also houses a high-quality speaker-emulated record out immediately after the output section, which means it delivers all-tube tone to your DAW or PA or both at the same time for recording your live shows.

Phenomenal amp, even BEFORE the price

Comments about Laney Ironheart IRT-Studio Rack Tube Guitar Head with USB Interface:

First, I have two misgivings about this amp:

1) The below-the-floorboards price means it was probably made in China.

2) The complexity that arises from the wall of features on this thing + No standby switch makes me nervous. I *think* it has a feature that activates by unplugging the output jack? I'd have to go read up on that.

Beginners ProTip: NEVER operate a tube amp (switch it from standby) without plugging it into a speaker of some kind; you risk blowing up.

Okay, what you're here for:

This amp is amazing. I own several makes, boutique and household names alike, and the Ironheart absolutely stands at the top of the pile.

GEARHEAD SPECIES: homer sapien metallus ; I drift between EQ profiles (a notch off noon; mid-heavy "frown;" classic scooped; Iommi 0 bass + 10 mids/treble...)--depends on the amp, pickups, mood.

TONE: Somewhere between a Peavey and a Marshall; it has the thick saturation of the former, albeit more compressed (not "hairy" on its own), and the trebly sparkle of the latter. Like a roided Heaven & Hell tone. Though I'm a metal dude, genre-wise I could absolutely get a good sound for anything non-rock/metal.

Definitely NOT: a Recto, it doesn't do super-scooped grind as well, but it's definitely as versatile as a Mark series; vintage, lacks the 60s/70s soft bass response, so doesn't really sound like a crunchy non-dark Orange either.

FEATURES: Oh my dark lord. 3 boostable channels; 2 independent 3-band EQs with shifts on each band; built-in boost (no Maxons needed here boys!); 4-button footswitch included; everything a bedroom studio needs but the DAW; separate wattages for bedroom and rehearsal/performance volumes; headphone (or desktop speaker!) output... Do you live in an apartment? Do you have roommates? This is beyond perfect. Oh, and it can LOUD too!

VALUE/PRICE: Cannot be beat. Closest is the Peavey 6505MH, another astonishing little beast with great tone and lots of whistles, but the Ironheart wins with separate EQs alone.

Comments about Laney Ironheart IRT-Studio Rack Tube Guitar Head with USB Interface:

I have tried many different amps over the years - Marshall, Peavy, Fender, Line 6, etc and none of them compare to the versatility and sound I have found with the Ironheart series. I run this 15 watt though an Orange cabinet and the tones are amazing. I can get really nice sparkling clean all the way up to modern heavy distortion. The range of sounds on this blows my mind. Yes, tone is a very subjective thing and everyone has their own view on what sounds good. I can play just about any style of music on this amp and have no complaints. The 1 watt jack is great for jamming in the house without blowing out the windows. I will be picking up a higher wattage Ironheart soon for playing out. But for at home or recording, I have found nothing better. I've had it for a few months and have had ZERO problems. I was a die hard Marshall man until I tried this one. The red lighting around the tubes is a neat perk. Pick one up, you won't be disappointed.

Amazing amp, when paired with the right cab and tubes

Comments about Laney Ironheart IRT-Studio Rack Tube Guitar Head with USB Interface:

Pretty generic tone out of the box using the IRT212 cab designed to go with it. Replaced the drivers in the cab with celestion V30's and changed Ruby Tube in V2 to a NOS CVC CV4035 and the Ruby Tube in the phase invertor to a NOS RFT ECC82. Now sounds absolutely spectacular. Beautiful warm, liquid sounds. Really make the Seymour Duncan Seth Lovers in my LP copy shine.

I'm a big fan of blues & rock, Gary Moore type playing sounds incredible on this. Only with the right tubes and cab else its quite dry and generic sounding.

Comments about Laney Ironheart IRT-Studio Rack Tube Guitar Head with USB Interface:

I bought this amp because of the sound specs, the USB interface was an added feature. The sound is great, very versatile. Having 3 channels is really useful and the full tube 15 watt power is enough for live performances. If you need more, there's always the possibility to mic the cab to the mix. One thing that upset me was that the power light flickers sometimes, but is just a matter of removing the red cover and adjusting the bulb.

Comments about Laney Ironheart IRT-Studio Rack Tube Guitar Head with USB Interface:

Others reviewers summed up a lot of the main selling points on this amp so I'll just toss in some others selling points that are unique to me or that stood out.

Only low wattage tube amp I found that comes with a good foot switch. Most amps in this price range or below have no footswitch or just a flimsy piece of junk.

          Comes with a carrying case

Lastly, I contacted Laney customer service with a question I had before I even bought the amp. They got back to me quickly and it wasn't an automated email. Made me feel good about the companies customer service.

I've had this unit for a some time now, I really enjoy it for what I use it for. I use this amp just for recording guitar with both real cabs and cab sims. Great EQ range, Pre Boost, and power amp tones.

I would easily recommend this or its bigger brothers to any guitar/studio persons.

I do not use the USB recording features. I feel like this unit can come off as a little pricey because of that.

Comments about Laney Ironheart IRT-Studio Rack Tube Guitar Head with USB Interface:

This amp's 1w feature is fantastic for bedroom playing, the 15w is loud enough for band practice through my 4x12. If you need more volume just plug it into the PA or mic it up, the head is so portable I can't justify lugging a head around anymore.

That said, this amp has a old school sound, great for thrashy stuff. I'm having trouble dialing a tone for my extended range guitars, I may end up getting a overdrive and eq pedal to get a more modern sound. The amp is very tight and great for fast riffing, but I wish it had and option to add some more low end. The lows don't seem to be moving enough air no matter how I dial them, you can't really feel the low end as much as I'd like. I feel like an eq pedal could solve this though.

I am happy with this amp though, it has lots of tonal options and 3 channels on a small amp like this is hard to find. I'm sure some new tubes, overdrive, and eq pedals will make this amp a beast.

It seems awesome on YouTube and I was stoked about it, but first off the rear panel was too tall. Secondly it became 15 watts I'll never get back. Going Engl e530 instead.
