OVERVIEW

Huge sound out of a microscopic package.

Orange Amplification launched the Micro Terror amplifier - their smallest Terror ever! With a high tensile steel case it is built to the same rugged specifications as the other members of the Terror family and is incredibly compact and highly portable. This is a true Orange Amp classic, with masses of vintage British character, clean crunch and full-on overdrive sounds.

I bought this amp looking for a backup head for my Marshall 6100LM for gigs. I wanted something small and portable and loud enough, but yet something that sounded good, and this fits the bill. There are three things that surprised me when I received this amp the other day: 1) How small and light it was, 2)how good it sounded, 3) how loud it was. There's nothing fancy about this amp, as it works same as other Orange amps such as the Tiny Terror and Dual Terror. Volume, gain & tone knobs. Aux input for MP3's, and speaker out in the back to 4, 8, or 16 ohm cab. I ran this thru my 4x12 and this amp sounded huge!! Would definately be able to use this for recording, gigging at small venues unmiked, and gigs at medium size venues miked. Loud enough run thru a 4x12 to keep up with a drummer. The sound is what you would expect from Orange, very similar to my Dual Terror that I used to own. Good warmth for a solid state power stage. Comes w/ a quality JJ ECC83S tube as well.Would highly recommend this for the [$] price tag. Great item that is much more than just a novelty peice.

After writing a review here I returned the little amp. It is just to much a one trick pony. Even with the up graded tube. It would be a fine amp for bedroom distortion practice. Metal players and teens. For anything else it has no musical value. I decided to put the money to better use than for something that would be sitting on a shelf unused.

I basically bought this to hold me over while I save for a rockerverb and I wasn't really expecting much from it.
I was totally wrong. This little thing is absolutely fantastic. Hook up an NS2 up for the noise and it's perfect.

So, this amp will not replace my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe. It will however, be of great use to take on vacation to remote places with limited musician resources; I'm thinking Caye Caulker, BZE where the Friday Jam at The Barrier Reef Bar requires lots of wattage to cut through the crowd. It honestly doesn't have any clean channel but who really wants one for this? It's the best 4 pound tube head for guitar you'll find. Period.

THIS LITTLE AMP ROCKS !!! GOOD FOR ALL TYPES OF MUSIC. GREAT FOR ROCK AND BLUES. AND EXTREMELY LOUD FOR A TINY AMP. I'M RUNNING IT THROUGH A 2-12" CAB WITH CELESTION SPEAKERS..."IT SOUNDS FABULOUS" !!! IT HAS THAT BRITISH OVERDRIVE TONE, BUT YOU CAN DIAL IT BACK FOR OTHER TYPES OF TONES. A GREAT ADDITION TO MY ARSENAL.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

This little amp absolutely Rocks and Chimes! It is the best practice amp I have ever owned and believe me, I own them all. The Electro Harmonix headphone amp is pretty cool too, but the Orange Micro Terror beats them all hands down! I use this with headphones at night and contrary to what others say, the headphone out sounds great to me. Just use a decent set of phones. If you want to use a speaker cab, the Orange Micro Terror will do that too! Many of the other headphone amps could be considered "toys", but the Orange Micro Terror definitely is not in this category. It is very well built, sound quality is excellent with that distinct Orange sound (or crystal clear and clean if you want)and uses a real JJ 12AX7 valve in the pre-amp. This is the real deal if you want a quality, absolutely cool practice headphone/room amp. Don't try to make it what it is not, a performing stage amp (although apparently it can do that as well!) You can't go wrong with this excellent product by Orange! I think I will have to buy another one just in case they ever decide to stop making them. They are that cool!!! Great job Orange and as always, Musician's Friend is the best! Price, customer service, shipping speed, etc. Thanks to MF as well!

This is a solid amp. I really appreciate the tone you get at this price point. I took off the little feet and the handle then mounted it to my floor board! it goes through a di then straight to my board(no big heavy amp cab). Love the compact design and the tone.

Best money I've ever spent in a while. Couldn't be more impressed. Just make sure you run it through a good speaker cabinet and you're set. Can't fully describe how amazing something so small can be so big at the same time.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

I did not expect to buy this lil guy when I decided to browse around the retail location near my house. Walked into store and salesman let me try out after I inquired about sold-out Tiny Terror and Dual Terror heads.

"Pffft. Whatever. Ok, I'll try for heck of it."

WOW! This little amp puts out some power! Sales guy plugged into Marshall 4x12 and demonstrated full volume for a brief moment and it is so loud, it's funny, because it's comical to see this thing sitting on a 4x12 cabinet, cranking out the decibals.

I bought it right there and have had for a week now. It is a great buy and awesome value! Less than 2 hundo and you've got a lil portable amp with 20 watts solid state power amp and 12AX7 preamp. It sounds very nice. I am running now through a closed back Orange 2x12 I bought here at MF a few months ago. Sounds excellent! This amp pushes the speakers and moves air!

The simple 3 knob design works like this:
Volume is volume, Gain adds gain and distorts very nicely when turned up.
Middle knob is tone. Halfway up, or say straight up at 12 o'clock, you have a tone that's middleground, while turning to left gives more bass/less mids, and turning right gives more treb/less mids.
If you max the Gain and set Volume at 9-10 o'clock, you have GREAT distortion and the saturation is very nice, with a great tone you'd have to crank a full tube amp up for, and that can get quite loud if all you want to do is practice or jam around.
Back off gain to 12 o'clock or less, crank Volume, and you have a good clean tone. Not sparkly chimey Fender clean. more like Marshall plexi clean.

What I LOVE is the fact I have jammed with drummer and bassist and the amp stood its ground and was heard. Both my fellas were equally impressed with the size vs volume and tone. The amp cut through and wasn't whimpy feeling at all. Granted, I'm running 2x12 16ohm cab.

I have a JCM800 50 watt head that I'll be buried with when I go LOL and as much as I love it, my ears need a break. Anyone with a serious tube amp knows how loud they need to get before the warmth of your tubes shine through. Sometimes you just want to practice or jam within a nice reasonable volume and still get great tone. Plus you don't have to wear out and go through power tubes with this little amp.

I feel this is an AWESOME BUY if you are like me, you have a nice loud tube amp, and have considered adding a new amp for size, portability and versatility with volume. If you happen to already have a speaker cab then you should definitely give this a shot. It's so low priced it deserves attention.

Also, consider this... I would highly recommend this amp as a back up in case your tube amp dies right before show time. This amp will push cabinets enough to be heard in small bar/venue, plus with headphone jack, you can run out to the soundboard and go through house PA at larger venues. This thing is so light it's funny, and you'll love it for that simple fact of portabilty.

Finally, the only complaint I have is its small size and portability will send this guy sailing if you happen to be clumsy like me and snag the 1/4 cable with your foot LOL You have been warned. Mine still works fine, but not trying to test durability again.

Comments about Orange Amplifiers Micro Terror MT20 20W Hybrid Guitar Amp Head:

First off, This little amp ROCKS!!! I use it with a Bugera 212V-BK 212 cab and have run it through my Marshall 1960AX with greenbacks. I'm on my 2nd one as I thought I had received a lemon on the first till I received the 2nd and it did the EXACT same thing. If your looking for cleans, This amp is NOT for you. This is made for rockin'!! This head has a lot of gain on tap and also increases volume. I like the gain dimed except when boosting it with a pedal. The issue- It will work on a 4 ohm cab setting for a while then it WILL get too hot and start to cut in and out. You can even smell it getting hot. Run it at 8-16 and it will work fine. Even though on the back is says Min 4 ohm, I don't suggest it unless you want problems. for a straight forward 3 knob amp it is sweet, Even with the 4 ohm issue. The one tone knob does a lot for the EQ and will get you where you need to be. Don't let the size fool you. This thing is LOUD and has NO problem powering a 412 cab Loud and Clear!!! It takes pedals in the front end VERY well too. It WILL do metal with an overdrive pedal up front of it. All in all I LOVE this amp, Even with its 1 issue. At 16 ohm it still gets plenty loud. And the tone is AWESOME!!! Musicians Friend as usual were GREAT in the exchange of the first amp I thought was bad. This company takes care at making sure the customer is ALWAYS happy!!!
