This amp is a great amp! Probably the best metal amp for the price.

When I bought this amp, I figured it would be a 1 trick pony (METAL \m/), and I was a little worried it would be too loud. Let me tell you, I was wrong on both points! I play a lot of genres - from blues, to classic rock (zeppelin, acdc, and stuff like cream & allman brothers) and this handles all those genres well. It is also perfect in loudness for bedroom practicing - my fiance does say its pretty loud, but no complaints from the neighbors yet!

The cool thing about this amp, is that it sounds great at lower volumes as well. Anything under 3 sounds a little muffled, but I was playing it at 2 for a while and it sounded fine.

This amp really shines in the high gain, metal and hard rock territory. I play van halen type stuff, and metal from SLAYER to Metallica and it handles all those styles well! I'm confident it would handle high gain death metal tones, maybe with a boost pedal, but I don't even use a boost pedal on this thing and it still sounds great for any thrash & heavy metal.

Once on the rhythm channel, you can really dial in a great classic rock crunch. You have to really tweak the knobs to get it right, but it works great once its dialed in! Stuff like, ACDC, Scorpions, etc. sound perfect. And it also gets a great light crunch - think like Allman Brothers, ZZ top, etc. Wonderful for Led Zeppelin, which I love playing. I also love playing ACDC on this, because you can play the rhythm on the crunch channel, then switch to lead for the solos and it sounds wonderful!

The clean tone also is much better than I thought. At first, I hated it, but you can really warm it up by turning up the reverb (which is also decent, not fender reverb but decent) and tweaking of the tone knobs. Something I didn't realize at first is that you don't need a lot of tweaking to get this amp to sound great - usually my eq settings on each band is set at 12 o'clock, then I plus or minus 1/2 depending on the tones I'm looking for.

I can get a pretty decent blues tone as well - if your looking for a blues amp, get a fender/marshall, but it still sounds great once you dial in that clean tone.

This amp has a LOT of bass - I usually set that no higher than 4/5. I had it set at 7 for a while (because I'm used to other amps), and I noticed the walls were shaking while I was chugging away. And not just a little LOL, like an earthquake. So, I turned it down a little ;)

Anyway, if you buy this, and you love any of the genres I highlighted above I highly recommend.

EDIT: Also, if you can't dial in a tone on this amp, start everything at 12'oclock and add/take away where needed. It doesn't need a lot of tweaking! And don't forget presence & resonance, those are very important. And don't scoop the mids, hopefully if your buying an amp this expensive you understand that...

I bought this amp new about a year ago and thought "wow, this is gonna be awesome" a tube amp that should scream heavy metal and rock. Sure it screams heavy metal and rock if it works. I've been able to use it about 10 times when all the sudden the volume would start dying out or the amp would cut out. This started about the 10th time I played it. About one month after I bought it. I called Peavey and they sent me to get it repaired. Dude said he couldn't find anything wrong and sent me home with it. I plugged it back in and it worked for about 10 seconds and started doing it again. So, I just used it as an external speaker cabinet, very infrequently as it weighs a ton and dragging to the local repair shop to get fixed once a week isn't my cup of tea. Today I was using it as an external speaker cabinet and it just totally died for good I'm afraid. Don't waste your money. P.S. The clean channel is as horrible as it gets.

Comments about Peavey 6505+ 112 60W 1x12" Tube Combo Guitar Amp:

I had ordered a replacement speaker for thisg even before I got the actual amp. With that being said, the amp is perfect for me. I play a lot of everything. Metalcore, thrash, classic rock, reggae and jazz. And this amp does it all for me.. The cleans are perfect for my music style. I like a warm thick clean for a piano like sound for improv in jazz. Same with reggae. And being able to use your guitars vol and tone nobs help to achieve this. The gain on this thing is amazing.. Very tight and punchy especially with a tube screamer in front of it. The replacement speaker was key. I replace that stock Sheffield with a wigs retro 30 and it woke this thing up..absolutely love it and I've had so many amps over the years and his one is it for me.

Comments about Peavey 6505+ 112 60W 1x12" Tube Combo Guitar Amp:

This is my first tube amp and I could not be happier with my choice. I recently decided to get rid of the couple half stacks that I had and go with combo amps because they take up a lot less room. I purchased a fender mustang iv last year because I wanted a combo that was programmable and loud. It is ok but I just couldn't dial in that one killer sound or even find that one killer preset. I decided I wanted to test the waters and get a tube amp so I started doing research and all avenues led me to this amp. And for good reason, this amp is a beast!! I was able to dial in a killer tone within less than a minute. It is extremely powerful for a 1x12 as well and it projects better than you would expect. I only have two complaints: for only having one speaker, it still weighs 70 plus pounds! The other complaint is that you have to get the footswitch separately. These are very minor complaints and would not change my mind whatsoever about getting another one.

Comments about Peavey 6505+ 112 60W 1x12" Tube Combo Guitar Amp:

Let me start by saying I am NOT a new metal player so maybe I should have not bought this amp to begin with. That said I did love the massive overdrive and thought (like any other amp) I could always dial the gain back. The lead channel screams but I cannot put the gain past 5 with out super noise. The post channel even on 1, there is noise until you start playing. The crunch channel is really fantastic and that is may what have sold me. The clean channel in my opinion does not clean up at all. If you hit the strings hard, it will break up (distort) and it does sound okay but if you want the channel clean then you might not want it crunching up so easy.
This amp is a metal beast. Some here say they tame it and get glassy cleans, country sounds etc. I do not see how that is possible but this amp really is for a metal player. Now what did help was that I replaced all tubes with a bit of lower gain tubes and changed the speaker to a cream back Celestion and this greatly helped tame the sound BUT the most annoying thing about this amp is the level of noise coming from it. It really is the most noisy amp I have owned and I like Peavey's stuff. I own 5 of their amps, also Marshall, Blackstar and a Line 6. This particular Peavey is over the top noisy. If I can get this to be quiter then this amp would be a total winner, even with the slightly dirty clean channel. I am not saying all should switch the tubes, most would be fine with the super over driven tubes, but you may want to swap out the speaker. The noise is the reason for the 3 star review. If Peavey can offer me advice to fix it and it works, I will give this amp maybe 4 to 4 1/2 stars and reccommend it. At this point I owned the amp 3 weeks and waited to work with it, replaced things and wrote to Peavey's forum and await their return. We will see.

Let me start by saying that there is absolutely nothing wrong with the clean channel and those who think that it has no clean channel might not know how to use it or don't really even have the amp to begin with.. You can get everything from Jazz, Blues, Rock, Metal. There is nothing this little brute can't do. It has Glassy cleans to tight chunky power chords and everything in between. It handles Pedals greatly, I use a Boss SD 1 and a BBE Sonic stomp with a EQ and Morley Wah and they all sound great through this. I use a Processor in the back end for Chorus and Delays and that sounds great as well also.I used the Mic simulator in the back to my Focusrite Interface and to my surprise it sounded great. I've had yet to try recording through my Shure 57 but I'm sure that sounds great as well. The controls are not complicated and very easy to use. The amp is pretty heavy at almost 70lbs but it's also well built and sturdy. If you want a great sounding amp that sounds like a something that should be twice as much then you will want this Amp..

Comments about Peavey 6505+ 112 60W 1x12" Tube Combo Guitar Amp:

First of all, kudos to the review by SQK3213. When I got this amp, the "fizziness" described by many reviewers seemed much worse than a little fizzing. With almost any gain at all, there was serious buzzing, to the point where we wondered if the amp was defective.

But I followed the tube replacement tips in SQK3213's review, and the buzzing basically disappeared. It was a fairly jaw-dropping difference. And thanks to the design of the amp, the tubes were easy to access and replace.

Note that SQK3213's review tells you which tubes to put where, in left-to-right order, but since one of the preamp tubes is not in line with the others, it was a little confusing at first glance. But SQK3213 does identify the tube sockets (V1 through V5 for the preamp tubes), and a schematic is available here (see page 3) that identifies those socket IDs.

                    http://www.prowessamplifiers.com/schematics/images/6505112.pdf

Finally, based on a consensus in other reviews, I replaced the rather unimpressive stock speaker with an Eminence Governor.

Final result: A much "quieter" amp that really cranks when you want it to!

And if you're willing to back off the volume on your guitar a bit, you can get pretty nice clean tones out of the rhythm channel.

Massive amount of gain with active pups. Cleans are non existing, but you can achieve a wide range of dirty tones. I swapped the stock speaker for a gt75 and replaced the ruby tubes with a mix matched set to fit my taste. At 70lbs its boarder line on portability. Plenty of power for a live setting. D.I. out with cab simulation is nice too. One big complaint is the effects loop. When in use it sounds like a cheap S.S. amp. It doesn't matter what brand of pedals you throw in it, it even sound bad with just a patch cable. If you plan on using pedals in the effects loop your going to be dissapointed. If your a metal player who wants to plugin and play you'll will find this amp very useable.
