Powerful and very flexible. Read manual for hidden effects tweaks, 2nd preamp enable, flexible edits. Tone is REAL good for solid state. A Few models do not sound exactly like their namesake, but tweaked can sound excellent (Grand piano like tones on 360, and Bassmn patch is the best tube modeled head tone ive heard. Handles passive and active inputs, performs well with both. Its large and a bit heavy, but its a USA made Peavy and like a tank. The lower blanked panel can be removed to reveal a single space rack slot (Very Clever). Bought used and was a steal compared to used gear out there for same price. Can fiddle for hours with effects and all sound good and useable. Top of the line features you cant find in even the newer model high watt heads. If you dont mind carrying it back and forth, you will be impressed with the sound. BTW the head is 9 years old, zero issues.
The head had great features and comes with a foot pedal... a great deal with built in compression and tuner. Unfortunately, the place that this amp fails is in the tone department. Its EQ is too limited. The models are decent but the bass tone control only allows boost/reduction to what seems the 100 hz range which does provide a punchy tone but it lacks depth to any frequencies below this. The sweepable midrange control also seems narrow and doesn't help this issue. Ampegs, GK's, SWR's and Edens which this amp has supposed models of all give you the ability to hit lower frequencies with a low contour switch/knob or sweepable bass control that can hit the 50-75 hz realms or lower but this amp doesn't provide this ability. The amp also has a very "digital" sounding character to some of the sounds/effects.
Can't say enough about this amp. I have two basses - a DeArmond Active 5 string and a Peavey Millennium Passive 5 string. An amp like this is the ultimate because I can dial in two completely different amp/cab setups then switch depending on what bass I'm playing. There are some amp/cab combos that I don't like, but that's a preference there are a bunch that I LOVE! Buy this amp before you can't get it anymore!
