I have been playing for over 20 years, and like everyone else, I have been through more gear than I would like to admit. However, I always seem to be drawn back to the ever reliable tube amp. I have had Fenders, Marshalls, a Tech 21, Gallien Krueger, etc. I have worked and experimented with guitar techs for an endless search for a great tube amp that will give me awesome tone. Well, my first amp ever is now my main amp, a Peavey. How ironic, eh? It's simple, if you are someone like me who plays a very large spectrum of music, you want something that can handle itself on its own, as well as, with modelers and effect processors. This amp does a phenomenal job of that. The clean is excellent, and when you start stomping on your effects it does them all justice. The lead channel is excellent, but not heavy, stick to your stomp boxes on the clean channel for that. The lead channel is as good or better than any Fender or Marshall. That's an absolute fact. Much better gain, more usable. I use the Classic 30 for rehersal, studio, jams, etc. Grab a Classic 50 for some more volume and tonal benefits, but the 30 should do you just fine. No separate EQ for each channel is a disappointment, but not fatal. No master volume can be overcome by adding a volume pedal in the loop. Stereo effects loop would have been nice, but it's only a 112 30 watter guys. No amp is perfect, that too is a fact, but the tonal quality, versatility, and bang for the buck make the Classic series a clear choice. Spend the left over money on some top shelf boutique type effects. Word of advice, any effects being run through the front end (input) of the amp, try to keep them true bypass (Ex. Dist/OD, Wah, Comp., etc). The effects through the loop should be high quality, but the true bypass factor doesn't weigh in as heavy. One final word of advice for those who need to mic or go in to the PA for bigger gigs. Buy a H&K Red Box Pro. After that, you are done. Anyone who tells you that the tubes and speaker need to be replaced to improve this baby is ridiculous, wait until they break (if that ever happens!!). It really is that good! Do not pass these amps up if you are looking for a tube amp. You may end your search here.

Fantastic amp!

By MIke D-vgeLM

from Massachusetts

This is a great-sounding, versatile amp. It is perfect for blues/rock styles right out of the box; if you're a metal kind of player, this may not be the amp for you but it does respond well to distortion pedals. It's 30 watts, but it can go from very loud to bedroom volumes (all with great tone). It responded well to all of the guitars I've used with it - a strat w/ Texas specials, a Las Paul w/ P90s and even a 7-string. This is probably the best amp in the price range - it blows away the comparably price Fenders.

Great amp !!!

I play metal and my main influences are:-Zakk wylde-Dimebag darrell-scott ian-Tom morelloAnd my goal is not to copy some superstars tone, its to create mine so i baught the classic 30 and man it blew me away. With a bit of knob-tweaking the distortion chanel on and a overdrive pedal in front of the amp to push it the destroy mode i had chunky-ass metal rhytme tone and great sustainThen role down the gain and you get a great bluesy tone and the clean chanel is really nice.It has an effects loop, reverb, two chanel and you can get a foot switch to go from clean to dirty and to switch reverb on/off !!! And best of all, for bigger gigs you can plug in any cabinet like a marshall 4X12 or something ,!!The only bad thing is that is that the map gets really hot and that you dont have two seperate eq's for each chanel. It also really fit pedal great ! You cabn put a distortion ^pedal oin front of it and it will sound great too !Two words : BUY IT !! (if you cant afford a mesa or a marshall ;-))

This amp sounds great clean or distorted. It's also great for gigs even though it's only a 30 watt amp. It never gets drowned out by the rest of the band.

I bought this amp, for my strat & SG, used to play them threw a JTM 45/W & 4X12 half stack. Left the music scene for about 10 years, Can't dial this amp in for the Blues/Rock sound, with out having it to loud for the house. You will need an overdrive stomp box. I bought a 50/W Mesa Boogie tube combo, much better amp, don't need the over drive for the sound I need, gave the Peavey to my son.

Classic 30 (Peavey)

By wardog-CrXt2

from San Diego

See all my reviews

The classic series are probably the best guitar amps that Peavey ever made or will make. There is no active circuitry in the EQ system, it's pure tube, it cranks loud with sweet overdrive as well as good clean sound. I'm hoping that they make them in the 100watt 2x12 soon with independent channels instead of one channel sharing together. It's overall good for what it is.

awesome amp

By Adam

from athens, ga

i've had this baby for almost a year now, and it's awesome. i gave it an 8 for features because it could definitely use a separate eq for clean and lead, but other than that, it's amazing. the gain chanel is especially impressive.

This amp kicks!

By Chad Smith

from Waterford,WI.

I have used everything, Marshall, Mesa Boogie, Fender! This amp's tone is great, from small venues to large. Solid and reliable.I can't believe how this thing keeps up, it breaks up very nice, and no sizzle or that throaty tone, very warm.Gotta get a couple more.

Too Good To Be True!!!

By Kevin Craig

from Fullerton, California

I am in my mid 40's and have been playing since I was 6 years old. Over the years I have played and owned many different amps. None of them could hold a candle to this "Well Kept Secret". I am amazed that I don't see many other guitarists playing this amp. It absolutely KILLS!! The dirty channel just Kicks Butt. Super toneful, A real screamer!! The clean channel is equally awesome. This amp actually has tone with body, it's not just some thin sounding fender or fuzzed out gainiac, it has tone un-like most other amps costing much more. There are a couple of things I would have done differently if it were my product like including a footswitch with the amp (you have to order that separately). It's really light and fits in my little Honda with no problem. Also, for only being a 30 watt amp, it's face-rippingly loud. It's way louder than I will ever need. Overall I will say that I am no longer looking for "THE AMP" because I have found it & it is the "Peavey Classic 30".

Fantastic amp.

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This is probably the best little tube amp money can buy. I played a small party with it and it never did me wrong. It is loud enough to be heard over a drumset and even loud enough to compete with 100 W solid state amps. Small enough for a practice amp but big enough for small gigs. Excellent!

Peavey Does it Again

this amp is WAY HOT. it's PHAT-awesome. seriously, it's loud, sounds good, and doesn't weight a TON. I'm hooked on Peavey stuff. sure I could spend more than 3 times the amount BUT WHY? This amp is perfect for my setup (Country and Rock). I recommend this amp to anyone.

The Peavey Classic 30 is a small but truly impressive amp that will rival all the competitors in its class and surpass with flying colors. The Power is unbelievable for this size and the tone is crisp and clear, but can produce a bite that gives you only what's available through a tube amp. This amp will allow you to play small venues or mic it to a PA and play larger crowds with confidence. I have tested this product against the Marshall and Fendor equivalents and chose the Peavey Classic 30 for the overall quality and tone. If you're looking for quality sound with a punch, this amp will suit your needs, don't be fooled by its size.

Thumps

By Krazy

from lakeland, Fl

If you play classic rock, blues, jazz, or country; it's impossible to beat in it's price range. It gets that classic fender mid-range thump dead-on. The drive side is big enough to nail SRV lead tones and even get a tone fitting for ACDC riffs. On big benefit is that you can get the sweet spots at volume levels that won't wake the neighbors unlike a Marshall or 5150 half stack.
