I've owned this little amp for a few years now and I have to agree with some of the other reviews, it a great amp! I'm using a first generation KOSMOS w/it and after setting the EQ's and the effects it growls like the the big boys. You can hear every string( including the B string ). Its also tuff. Mine fell out of the back of my Durango and except for a few dings, you'de never know it. I do agree that its small for the big venues, so I use a Cabgrabber and a sm57 to cure that. Sure, I'd like to have a 4x10 stack, but this will do nicely until I get one. If you don't need something heavey to lug around and want great sound, get one!

I have been a Peavey loyalist since 1980 with the purchase of my T-40 Bass, my T-15 guitar in 1983, and my current gigging bass a Peavey Foundation purchased in 1984. (Outstanding bass by the way). The new Peavey products just don't seem to have the quality control as the older Made in USA products. First thing to go on this amp was the volume pot that crapped out the same day I received it. Replaced by Peavey dealer under warranty. Next the plastic input jack broke in half and the part was replaced by Peavey, finally the voicing switch broke and would not switch between modern and vintage voicing which was the last straw. I will have this repaired and find a nice old TNT 100 amp to replace this one with. I love Peavey, but the new stuff is cheaply made. Sorry guys.

Comments about Peavey MAX 112 Bass Combo:

I'll be honest, you could definitely get better, but if you're tight on your budget you can't find better. I trust Peavy equipment all, and this little guy packs quite a punch and can still be heard over a drum kit, Crate half stack and a Marshall half stack!

Comments about Peavey MAX 112 Bass Combo:

A lot of people are saying this amp is only a personal, at home, practice amp. Well, unless you practice in an empty warehouse that you want to fill with sound, its pretty loud for just practice at home. Its the perfect amp for rehersals with a band. I haven't gigged with it yet, but im sure it will hold its own. Last night I was practicing with the band, our lead guitar has a Marshall 50 watt, and we had an acoustic, electric and elecric drums. I had to back the amp off multiple times, because it was too loud. The only thing it lacks is the massive low end... it doesn't kick it as well once you get to the low end notes. Thats to be expected with the size of the speaker in it. But other than that, its great, and you don't have to refinance your house to get it. If your doing big gigs, its not for you, but its perfect for lower volume gigs and praise and worship at church and youth group. Great buy!

Comments about Peavey MAX 112 Bass Combo:

I bought this because it was cheap, small, light, simple and there. Intended only for home recording, where it only had to keep up with my fender champ or an acoustic run thru the board, it has surprised me several times. My lead player picked me up after work, saying "c'mon grab your stuff, we're playing a gig tonight." Well the li'l Peavey was all I had available, so I brought that and my Jazz. The gig, which was an outddor thing went beautifully, and the peavey made more than enough noise for a comfortable on-stage environment. In fact I even got compliments on the sound. At another gig, my singer's nephew and his bass player got up to do a couple of tunes. They do nu-metal rage againt the machine type stuff, and the kid was snapping and popping all over the neck. When he came off stage he told me " gee I like your amp. It cuts accross so much better than my Line6, but the line6 is only about 50 watts." When I told him the Peavey is only 40 watts he was amazed. Its as reliable as a rock, simple, and I don't get a hernia carrying it. At this price it's got a lot of bang for the buck. It COULD be a tad louder, but that's why I have a P.A.

Awesome bass amp Great value

By James-fNkB3

Comments about Peavey MAX 112 Bass Combo:

I got this amp in November 2007 for my birthday after playing bass for a little less than 6 months. I've played guitar for 2 years but recently switched to bass because uhh...it's more fun? Of course. This amp is great for beginners especially. It can get real loud and you can definitely feel the sound. The "Modern/Vintage" switch is really nice you can switch from a more smooth mellow sound to a more precise clean sound. I switch back and forth on that switch all the time depending on what I'm playing. This amp is a perfect amp for someone maybe looking to upgrade from a smaller amp or just getting their first bass amp. I'm am very glad I found this amp at the music store near me.

Great Amp

By msmetalbass

Comments about Peavey MAX 112 Bass Combo:

What can I say about the Peavey Max 112 that hasn't already been said? Well I can start by saying, mine hasn't exploded, and I don't think it will. I can also say I am the proud owner of this amp for almost a year. This amp has has plenty of kick for practice and small gigs, or just jammin with some friends. This is a bass amp not a guitar amp so don't expect alot of frills. There is not built in distortion. You'll need to spend a few bucks and buy one.The amps 3 band equalizer and 12" speaker deliver some of the finest tone you will hear on an amp in this or any other price range. The quality of the amp is bordering on excellent. I have had mine as I stated for over a year. It was purchased as a second amp. It has almost replaced my main amp (except larger halls) and gets carted around a lot and has withstood some serious abuse. If I could give this amp a rating of 1 - 10 it would easily get a 9. I love this amp and you will too.

Comments about Peavey MAX 112 Bass Combo:

This amp is more powerful and has a better tone than I expected. It actually is nearly as good as my Ampeg although not as many watts of power. A very good value for the money spent!
This amp is heavy, but plenty of power for small gigs and rehearsals.
As always, Peavy equipment is tough and reliable.
Very good value for the bucks!

Great for practice and smaller gigs

Comments about Peavey MAX 112 Bass Combo:

I own one. I love the Amp. It is very durable. Its been through alot. It has fallen off stage and the tubes never broke. It has good low ends and high ends. I'm currently in a gospel group and the amp is good for small gigs and even some bigger gigs, but the amp will distort. I recommend the MAX 115(For 60watts its powerful) I have to say that the MAX 112 is very good for electric and acoustic guitars.

Comments about Peavey MAX 112 Bass Combo:

This can get pretty loud to be 45 watts, however, despite the description, it seriously lacks in the tone control department. The sounds you can get out of it are pretty good, but im runnin a Zoom b2.1u through along w/ my bass so I can get pretty much any sound I want now. Headphone jack is great to have though. I would suggest the behringer BXL900. Same size, more EQ, 2 channels, and twice the wattage.

Packs a punch!

By RyanM

Comments about Peavey MAX 112 Bass Combo:

This little amp has a loud voice! I've never heard my bass sound so good. The tubes really make a difference vs. solid state. I plan on purchasing one soon. My only issue is no direct line out. It's a great amp for stage use, practice, or small gigs, but in bigger settings you'll need a direct box to go to the board.

Good tone, needs some improvements

By Anonymous

Comments about Peavey MAX 112 Bass Combo:

I've owned a Max 112 for over a year now and use it for practice, rehearsals, and gigs. I compared it to about 10 other small, low-wattage bass amps and fell for the deep tone of the vintage mode and the flexible signal ins and outs. I've had two issues with this amp. While practicing one day, the amp got very distorted and noisy, low output. It was still in warranty and the shop I bought it at was easy on returns, but I decided to open it up myself. I was disappointed, having owned Peavey equipment for many years, that the built quality has gone down. The problem at hand was a bad Zener diode in the power supply. I replaced both in the pair, upping the power rating from 1 watt to 5 watts, and noticed the two power resistors mounted near them ran very hot. I replaced them, upgrading from 5 watt to 10 watt and mounted them on the output device heat sink. Also, the power transformer was bolted down with two screws in the center of its mounting bracket and had started to rock back and forth, so I added two more bolts on opposite corners of the bracket (involving drilling holes). Since then, the amp has seen a lot of gigs and a lot of miles and is holding up well, but I never travel without a good DI just in case. I still like the tone, features, and portability, but am disappointed at the cost- and corner-cutting on this China-made Peavey.

pretty good overall

Comments about Peavey MAX 112 Bass Combo:

This was my first amp, I got it last Christmas and I?m pretty impressed. It?s loud and has a nice tone. The voicing does really do too much. It?s constructed pretty, I?ve banged against a couple walls and dropped from about 3 feet once, and I sit on when I play and I weigh about 175lbs. Its sounds kind of crappy after about 8 on the gain knob. Other than that it?s a great amp for practice and small gigs, any beginning bassists should consider this one.

Comments about Peavey MAX 112 Bass Combo:

The amp is great for performing in clubs and can be heard over drums UNLESS the drums are miked. Also if your guitarist has a half or full-stack, this amp will have an extremely hard time being heard. So I would recommend having it miked. Excellent for beginners.

Worth Every Penny

By Benny Blanco-dcrfX

Comments about Peavey MAX 112 Bass Combo:

This amp is inexpensive, easy to carry, and packs quite a punch. I use it when space is at a premium, or the venue calls for a compact rig. I tour with a Latin Jazz band, and when I use other small amps, the conga player complains that he can't hear or "feel" the bass. This is never the case when I play through the PEAVEY MAX 112, so I've decided to use it for all of my smaller gigs. It's also a great amp for rehearsals!

I tried about 12 different top name amps and for the money I could not find a better sounding amp. I use it for jamming with friends in a basement of a house and it is more than enough volume and it sounds excellent.
