Comments about Peavey Pro VB-3 300W Tube Bass Amp Head:

I have a number of amps including a SVT-4 and a SVT-6. But I love the sound of this Peavey. I needed an amp to face off against guitar players who use Marshal heads. It works great. I have had it now for over a year and so far no problems. I have had to contact Peavey direct to find a cover manufacturer since Peavey doesn't sell them. I also like the fact that I can run two cabinets as low as 2 ohms with no problems.

Comments about Peavey Pro VB-3 300W Tube Bass Amp Head:

This sad amp sacrifices warm tubed gritty tone for 20 pounds weight difference then the vb2. There is no "NAWR" sound to this amp. When using the OD channel it sounds like the signal goes in and out almost like a chorus effect. Don't get me wrong, its not a pile of poo, it can sound really good depending on your style. It has good low end, so finger picking with your tone knob down it kills it.For any kind of pick picking, I just coudn't get the tone right, even with all the eq and tone knobs.I didn't really test it for slap and pop style.Over all, it sounds like a warm solid state amp. If this cost closer to the vb2 the weight factor might be worth it, but not when a SVT is close to the same price. I recommend the vb2.

Classic Pro amp w/ pro features

Comments about Peavey Pro VB-3 300W Tube Bass Amp Head:

This is the bomb. Balanced line out for big gigs, sessions or rockin loud.Great tones; anything you want for any style.Simple but effective tone knobs plus the graphic EQ, which should be used sparingly if at all.Nice compressor that is adjustable for your pickups and style.REAL power! It is NOT that "class-D" hype of a 'gagillion watts into 2 ohms' crap. This is a REAL tube amp that pumps 300 watts RMS into 8 ohms. You can compare this to any class-D 300 watt amp you want. You will immediately understand the old school tube ethos.Peavey went old-school here but included all the modern features we need to cover any kind of gig with any kind of bass. It's good to see Peavey didn't skimp on this design.A keeper.

Excellent

Comments about Peavey Pro VB-3 300W Tube Bass Amp Head:

Have a number of different amps for bass in our studio and for live play. Wanted to get something new w/ tube capability that WASN'T SVT sounding. Tried a number of amps, including Eden/Warwick/Bogner etc. Came down to the Eden and surprisingly the Peavey (a company I forgot about since the early 90's). Thing put out some great basslines for recording, thick w/o the usual SVT noise. More modern sound w/o fakeness that I've heard from MaNy new-style amplifiers. PROS: Great EQ section and compressor, honestly bypassed my rack units sounded perfect w/o them. Very loud, very LIGHT surprisingly, so great for pro touring (though do recommend racking since it's SO light a bump will throw it). CONS: Not an SVT. So not a con, just so you know it doesn't grind dirty like SVTs will (no noise either though).

WHAT???

By gimmeshelter

Comments about Peavey Pro VB-3 300W Tube Bass Amp Head:

My band opened up for a well known band a few months ago and the bass player had one of these. The tech was raving about it and said "pick it up". It was like there was nothing in the box, like 35 pounds or something. I couldn't believe how great it sounded, he was using it with the new Peavey 8x10 cab as well. As soon as I can afford it I'm going to buy one!!

I've never owned a tube amp before buying this. I'm very blown away, I bought this along with a Tour 410 and 115 from my local dealer and can't recommend it enough. Full featured, very, very loud, amazingly light and sounds great. You will NOT be sorry for buying this!!
