OVERVIEW

Monster power for the big gigs!

The Peavey Tour 450 Bass Amp Head offers tons of power plus extensive tone shaping tools, such as bright and low-cut switches, active high and low shelving controls, a contour control, and a 9-band graphic EQ configured to target critical bass frequencies. Its also includes a Peavey-exclusive sub-harmonic generator with level control and footswitchable bypass that adds a note one octave lower than the original note, creating interesting harmonic textures and a significantly enriched bottom end.

The Tour 450 delivers 450W RMS into 4 ohms. SmartRail technology, a new patented Peavey power-amp topology, makes it possible for the Tour Series to deliver its massive dynamic power with increased efficiency and lighter weight.

In addition, the XLR-equipped direct out allows traditional patching to a front-of-house or studio mixer, but features fail-safe phantom power backup that sends a flat signal through the house P.A. or studio console.

  • 450W into 4 ohms (4-ohm minimum load)
  • Pre- and post-gain controls

I'm in a 5 piece progressive metal band and we gig like crazy. This thing holds up to the test. I'm using it with either one 4x10 cabinet or one 1x15 neo cabinet and it owns. I can clearly hold the bottom end and cut through the other guitars. It's even got an octaver to get even more bottom end. All I can say is get a big enough cab to support the power of this thing, because it'll continue to amaze you. The features are more than what you need. The graphic EQ gives you what the freedom you need to dial your own tone in. Don't know how to work one? Thats fine seeing as you can turn it off. It's front plate is built like a tank and I have it on a 2 space rack, so nothing can hurt it. Buy it now. Peavey FTW.

I've owned this unit for 9 months now and even with the 10 band EQ, I have never been satisfied with the sound. I play a top of the line Pedulla fretless bass and the tonal response from this amp is seriously lacking. You can play with the EQ all day long but never get a clear and precise punchy tone. There are too many bells and whistles and none of them sound any good. The sub-harmonic generator is worthless and sounds horrible and when the cooling fan kicks in to high speed it is so loud that the sound of the fan will be picked up from your speaker cabinet and create a loud hiss.

I bought this amp because of the features and the price was right. If you want power and volume then this amp is for you. However if tone is more importamt than volume then you need to look elsewhere. You get what you pay for.

I love how this amp head sounds! It has such a smooth sound that you CANNOT beat for the price. I pair it up with the Peavey 410 Cab and boy does it pack a punch! I plan to add the 115 Cab soon, but until then, this setup will work just fine. This is a must buy! Planning On useing it For Many more years to come with the 2 years i have used it already.

      Frustrating

Comments about Peavey Tour 450 Bass Amp Head:

THIS IS WHERE I GET OFF THE BANDWAGON. THIS AMP DOES NOT PUSH VERY MUCH AIR. I TOOK IT TO A CLUB AND PEAKED IT OUT ALL NIGHT LONG. THIS WAS A HOLE-IN-THE-WALL CLUB THAT SHOULD NOT HAVE REQUIRED A LOT OF POWER. I WAS PLAYING THROUGH A HARTKE HYDRIVE 410 - A VERY LEGIT CAB. I OWN A LOT OF PEAVEY STUFF AND AM A BIG FAN, BUT THIS IS NOT THEIR STRONG POINT. I TOOK THIS BACK AND WILL BE GETTING A HARTKE LH1000
I AM A HUGE PEAVEY FAN, SO I WAS STOKED WHEN I SAW THIS IN THE SHOP. PLAYED IT, LOVED THE KOSMOS TONE AND THE EQUALIZER.
THIS BOX IS WELL MADE AND NOT VERY HEAVY.
IF THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT, THEN THE PRICE IS FAIR.

      Bangin head for the money.

Comments about Peavey Tour 450 Bass Amp Head:

I just bought this head a while ago and im running it through a mesa/boogie 410 powerhouse. The EQ control is amazing and the high and low cut gives you a lot of tweaking tools to find tones that you desire. The octave control is pretty much the same as the "ultrabass" channel on a Behringer head but Peavey made a better quality version of it. I dont use it pretty much at all but it has moments where it chops up a little bit you hit a note and it looses signal or something. Ive been playing bass for about 5 years now and played through a variety of heads. I play variety of music like classic and southern rock but mostly metal and it took me a while to find me a really good growly tone but i found my sound in it. I have not had a chance to gig it yet but im very sure itll sound great especially with the DI out input in the back enabling me to hook right up to PA mixers. This is great for the money i must say. Gives you exellent tone shaping tools with a very very low end response control or a shearing treble cut. If your looking around for something affordable and quality buy this.

As my title says I am very happy with the purchase of this head and impressed with the features, value, and overall performance. I use it with my Fender Bassman 410 cab and the sound is awesome! This head outputs great sound and now during practice the only guy who can come close to my sound output is possibly the drummer. Great value and a huge upgrade from my Fender Rumble 210 combo amp. I would suggest this head to anyone looking for something worth it.

      Great Value & Performance

Comments about Peavey Tour 450 Bass Amp Head:

I never write reviews but I just had to write a review for this great amp. Over the last 2 years I have played dozens of hard driving shows with this amp an it has never given me any problems. I have so much confidence in this amp that I have never used a backup. I always play my Tour 450 at volume for a full 3 set show. The EQ and the other tone controls on this amp are excellent. I never have had any use for the octave option but that doesn?t mean that it?s not a quality feature. The combination of my modified Geddy Lee bass, an RBI, and my Tour 450 is absolutely amazing! I?ve been playing bass and guitar for 22 years and I have never been let down by a Peavey amp; period. For the money, I doubt that you can find a better amp with all of the features found on the Tour 450.

      Great Sound!

I plan to add the 115 Cab soon, but until then, this setup will work just fine. One thing that I am discouraged about is the instruction manual. It just gives you a definition of each control, but not how to use it. For example, I don't even touch the EQ knobs because I have no idea what they do...But other than that, this is a must buy!
