This amp rocks, it screams for its size at 25 watts. I own two small size amps. I just got a Marshall MG 15 dfx, whoah what a differance. The Peavey hands down out performs the Marshall in almost every catagory except for clean sound, the Marshall sounds better. Ok but first off this amp has a signature lighted effects so you can actually see which effect your using and how much effect your using, thats lighted to. The Marshall uses one knob which changes at every 1/4 turn on the same knob; 4 differant effects on one knob "not cool". The Peaveys effects level is also lighten up so is the reverb and the echo and they all change color on the Peavey when you increase the effects from yellow to green to red. The Marshall dosen't even come close to offering that. The Peavey only lacks in the clean sound by power but switch to second channel and your neighbors may call the cops because of screaming guitar riffs. I own both these little practice amps and by far this Peavey rocks. I was disappointed to find out that my brand new Marshall amp didn't come with a Celestion guitar speaker. THe back of the Marshall is inclosed so I had to take it off and see for myself. I bought it believeing that all Marshall use this type of quality speaker but I was wrong. The Marshall MG15 uses a generic speaker so now I will be ordering a Celestion speaker for it and hopefully it can hold up to this my killer Peavey. To sum up my opion, this amp rocks, it's loud very user friendly and comes with a great speaker for sound; Blue Marvel.... BUY iT!!!!

My parents gave me this amp one Christmas and I was happy at first but then after a while I got smarter about guitar equipment. First off, the clean tone is very bada**. I love how clean it really sounds. It is not muffled or anything. Just pure clean. However there is always a bad side to something that just has to seem so good. The lead really blows on this amp. I hate it. You can't get any distorion out of it really. It is just... weak. So I had to buy a DOD Death Metal Distortion pedal for it, which I love very much and reccommend getting. The effecs are nice indeed. I can't really complain there. But if you're looking for some good distortion then do not buy this amp. But if it is clean you're looking for then by all means, go for it.

Good for beginers

I am a touring musician and got this amp to use in our RV while traveling. The idea of having FX onboard seemed to be a good idea in limited space and it is loud enough. It falls short when it comes to tone. I generally don't like digital amps but this amp doesn't even measure up to my pignose amps or my battery operated Roland. So it sits in a corner in case something breaks. I would not buy it again. It also requires a pedal sold seperately even though the pedal is necessary to use all the features. I have a bunch of practice amps (Traynor, Gorilla, Fender, Marshall MG to name a few) but I use the Roland Micro amp battery operated and Pignose amps if I must use a digital amp. Although for the most part I use an Epiphone Valve Junior stack with 2 12" cabinets that have Jensen Alnico speakers and a EQ pedal. For small gigs I have several amps (all tube amps) my favorite being a 68 Bandmaster and a Fender Blues Deville. For large gigs or outdoors I use a Gibson Super Goldtone Half stack, a Fender 68 Showman with a 2 X 15 cab and a Ashdown Fallen Angel Full Stack. These are just my go to amps but I have 153 amps in my studio, I have played since 1965 so I have accumulated alot of gear and a complete studio so an amp like this is hard to compare to the high quality I am used to. It would be a great first amp but not much use to me.

Love It.

By LedZeppelin28352

I got the as my second amp after having a First Act for Christmas. I love it! The clean channel is pure and sounds amazing. The lead is great and when people say you can't get much distortion out of it that because its, supposed to be tubes. Anyways for high gain get a pedal. If you want a good amp and are short on cash. This is the one for you.

All-round good amp

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

This was given to me at Christmas as my first amp. As I have gained experience, I have come to realize that this amp is the amp for beginners and small gigs. It is surprisingly loud for a 25watt and the clean is AMAZING. It's pure. The effects are easy to manage and sound really well. The reverb is amazing as well. The only drawback to this amp is the lead. You can't get much distortion out of this amp but simply buy a pedal and this amp is PERFECT. Buy this amp and you WILL NOT be disappointed. I use mine at home all the time.

Peavey TransTube 258 EFX Guitar Combo

By Treeunit212-w7CWq

from Detroit, MI

This amp is the 1st amp that I have owned. It's a decent starter. It's plenty loud, the vintage setting sounds great, and most of the effects are decent. Some big problems I had with it is that the modern setting is too bassy and doesn't allow enough gain, and the clean channel is plucky and sloppy. Overall, this isn't a very good amp for the price. the small crates and line 6s are much better for the price.

the little amp that could

By the tokin shredder

from Minnesota

well Ive had about a years experience with this amp, overall it has alot of great features..its loud enough to annoy your roomates 2 floors up, but sadly..the lead channel is terrible, the 3only way to truly compensate for this problem is to use a digitech modeling guitar processor, on the other hand..the clean channel sounds really nice...and almost captures that nice warm tube tone, in the end I would have say..buy this if your just looking to throw some riffs around in a non serious manner, but if your truly looking for a players amp...your better off saving up and getting a half stack or a combo!

Small, but WOW

By Emt5150

from Baltimore, Md.

I bought this yesterday as an upgrade from my small marshall amp, and I am very pleased. The onboard effects are decent, but I don't use them that much. The distortion on this amp's dirty channel is not great, so do yourself a favor and buy a Boss Ds-1 distortion pedal. Overall, I like it very much !

All I need in a practice amp

By Kris-e.ps6

from Florida

I've owned my 258 for about 4 years, it is has served me well both at band practice and at a couple small shows. The effects are very nice sounding, although I wish there were more (I recently got a GT-8 to settle this problem). The clean and distortion channels are both competent in their own right. The only gripe is that I have had to resolder the input jack a couple times, which was kind of inconvenient, but not too much of a hassle. Overall, I love using this amp and I will continue to.

great practice amp

By Anonymous

from Undisclosed

I actually got this amp as a gift and have used it for around 4 years. I can't really use it at shows, unless the setting is really really small. the clean is really nice and doesn't distort, but it isn't quite tube quality sound. The distortion isn't great, but if you buy a tubescreamer, this amps sounds awesome. I have a start, and run a compression sustainer (boss cs-2) and an ibanez ts-9 through it. you can really get nice leads out of it that way. great product, but by no means a concert amp.
