made a strange ticking noise when i first got it. noticed that if i kept my finger touching the standby switch it stopped. realized that a bad ground was the only problem and placed a small wire from the standby to the power switch right behind the washers against the face plate.

problem solved and this little amp rocks. very good value.

had to drop a star..only because it took me 5 minutes to fix.

Just got this amp yesterday and had to return it. It had a loud ticking noise. Called peavey and they said it was probably a tube. Wanted me to take a brand new amp to a repair shop. I refuse to do that and just returned it. Shame on you peavey

For the price it's a great 50W all tube guitar amp. It's loud enough to play a small gig and gets quiet enough to play in a bedroom. The main drawback for me is that the gain in the lead channel sounds real strained and for the music I play, classic rock and blues, horrible. But on the other hand, the clean channel is excellent and takes pedals well.

I Love this amp. I tried a bunch of solid state amps ... Then I tried this amp and I will never go back to solid state. This amp is very affordable for an all tube amp and I think it sounds great.

I tried this amp with numerous guitars at my local shop, and even the more uncomfortable instruments still sounded amazing on it. I would've gone ahead and purchased it on the spot, but the local shop runs nearly twice as much as MusiciansFriend, so this is where I'm buying it when I get ready to make that investment. Whether you play Gibson/Epiphone, Fender/Squier, Peavey, Schecter or PRS (the guitars I got to try out on it), the ValveKing 110 will not disappoint, though it does take some getting used to for those of us who've only ever played solid state. Speaking of which, I've played solid state amps for ten years, and was never really impressed with tube amps, thinking the hassle and extra price just wasn't justified. After a decade, a couple hours with this amp converted me. Try it. Buy it. Love it.
Is it possible to have too many features? Indisputably so. I love that this amp isn't piled up with digital effects, just the basics. Too many amps I've test-driven had so many bells and whistles that you just couldn't get them to sound like an amp. Not the ValveKing. It's just right- not bare-bones, not overloaded, just right in the middle.
Compared to the sound I've gotten out of smaller, less impressive, cheaper amps, the ValveKing 110 had a great sound, but certainly not chorus of angels great. Easily better than some of the Marshall MG Series and Ibanez ToneBlasters I've tried, but play it side-by-side with a decent Fender or Peavey Envoy, and it's just part of the pack.
For what it is, a 50w all-tube amp, the pricing is stellar. I've seen numerous tube amps in this price range, all between 2-20w power. I love the sound, and having the bragging rights of all-tube and actually having an amp that could be heard over the average human conversation is well worth what you'll pay.

I have been using a friends 1-12 valve king for several weeks now and I am so impressed with it that I now have one on order with musicians friend. Very good sounding amp! You can get about any sound that you want from this amp. And for an ALL tube amp, 5 tubes in all, you can't beat the price. There's nothing that I can say bad about this amp. I highly recommend it!

I just recieved my new ValveKing 112 amp today and I have to say, IT ROCKS!!! Great tone & sustain! A very full sound range with the Texture variable Class A/AB blend control.
I love playing different styles of music and trust me this amp can handle every one of them.
I cranked the volume on both channels to approximately 4 and it really sounded great.
I purchased mine from GC's website and got it approximately $30 cheaper than MF because of the holiday sale they have going on (it may have already expired, I'm not sure).
This is my first all-tube amp and it's a great one to have as a first. I am very pleased so far.

First thing I noticed it's dead quiet when no signal is put through it and when the standby is turned on or off there are not pops or transient noises. Indicates good electrical engineering. Despite the fact it is made in China the build seems very solid and clean, albeit I haven't checked out the guts of the amp for wiring connections etc. What I like most about it is the bass response - articulate and not mushy. I'm not much into high gain crunch playing so I can't speak for that channel, but the clean channel does what it should - and for nasty sounds I just run it though a Future '70 or a VOX Satchurator - or both pedals at once that gives huge sustain! I've also got a Boggie Stilleto and a Deluxe Reverb, and like them all. Peavey not as chimey at the high end as the Fender, but I think the bass is better. (I play all amps through a MXR Carbon Copy with all settings around 9- think the pedal adds something to all amps - just my opinion.) I've only had it a few weeks so I can't speak to long-term reliability, but so far there is nothing suspicious going on. Seems to me one gets a lot of bang for the buck here as it's as good as amps costing 50-100% more.

...I did not like it at first. It has an inherent brittleness to the top end and the distortion is kind of fizzy. After two upgrades, I have created a monster little amp. I play in a classic/alternative rock cover band and I needed big amp performance with little amp portability and I got it. I replaced the crappy VK speaker with an 8ohm Eminence Red Coat Governor (USA made) and retubed it with Tung-Sol pre-amp and power tubes. The difference was both immediate and astounding. The high end fizz was gone and was replaced by warm and buttery tone! Notes were jumping out at me like never before and I had to readjust my EQ settings. It responds to my picking so much better now and I have more clean headroom. The clean channel sparkles like an old Fender now with less breakup at higher volumes. I set my rythym gain on the dirty channel to 2o'clock and it will clean up when I roll off the volume on my USA Fender "Fat Strat". I use an Ibanez Turbo Tube Screamer to boost my solos on the dirty channel. This amp is loud and can gig with a full band if you mic it up. My next buy will be a 1x12 ext. cab for a cool little stack. My only other gripe about this amp and Peavey in general is the crappy design of their footswitches and lack thereof when you purchase their amps. Footswitch should be included. I gave it a 6 on features because of that.
It's built well like all Peavey stuff is. I have had no problems with it other than my original dislike of the tone.
Great 1st tube amp for the money. It's loud and does the job. Upgrades will make it truly gig worthy.
