Overall, Its a good little amp that is perfect for the beginner to intermediate play or weekend jammer. The only thing I changed with mine was the speaker. I replace the stock Blue Marvel with an older Yahama 100w 12" speaker. Reason being is that my Vypyr was floor stock from GC and the Blue Marvel had an AWFUL rattle to it and was worn out due to the speaker cone being ripped around the edge. I blame the rip on the fact of it being a floor model and from taking extremely high volume abuse from every guitarist that walks in. Playing other Vypyr's around town this was not something that seemed to be an issue across the board.
Lots of cool effects to play with. They each sound okay but do not compare to a real dedicated pedal. The looper is cool if you take the time to figure it out not to mention buy the sanpera footswitch to actually activate it.
Good construction. Baffle rattles a bit when turned up really high but thats not until your ears start bleeding anyway. Which is another point...for only 30 watts this puppy is crazy loud. Bedroom level for my ears is on 1. Jamming volume is about 4 or 5. The volume knob goes up to 13. You fill in the gaps.
For $200 bucks and compared to a Line6 the Vypyr is fantastic.

The 30 I picked up is extremely loud but totally lacked any bass. Some say the speaker needs time to wear in but I swapped it with an eminence right away. The clean sounds are great. The distortion sounds good but are not overly usable for serious work. The sound breaks up when the volume starts to drop on sustained chords/notes. Could be a gate or DSP problem. Mine also had a high pitched feedback sound when using any distorted sounds (amps or pedals). With the eminence and my trusty POD XT Live this thing has become a decent little portable amp.

Jumpin' Jehosaphat!

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I've had this amp for quite some time now, and I have to say, this is quite the little monster. It has a wide array of customizable effects built into it. That's a bunch of pedals you won't have to buy. I would suggest actually reading the user's guide, it will be much easier to use. It's a lot louder than it looks too. The other guitarist in my band has a half stack, and my little Vypyr 30 can hold it's own against it. The only thing is, your saved effects are difficult to switch on stage and/or in a quick moment. I would suggest spending the money on the Sampera Footswitch that goes with this amp to make it easier to use. But overall. a fantastic machine and well worth the money.

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I got this as my first electric guitar amp. It has done an okay job, but I don't recommend it to everyone.
It has a whole bunch of effects and stomp boxes that I thought would be pretty cool, but I only use about two of them now, and I use those rarely. If you really feel like you need that many effects, and don't have enough cash for an effects pedal, then this might be a good choice for you. I don't think that most of the effects work all that well though.
Other things are that the tuner doesn't do a very good job, it's very hard to understand the parameters of the effects, and the tone isn't the best really.
For most people, I would recommend something more like a small Fender or something.

This is a great amp to start of with or if you been playing for years. Also has a headphone plug in so there would be not excuese of jamming out at night.
hot sounds for classic music to metal. A lot more power than line6 spyder IV 30 watt.
has a built in tuner and also a lot of effect to mess around with
    cant beat the price

    Not Impressed

    By Jarod Merle

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I was an absolute beginner (at guitar at least, lots of other musical experience) when I bought this amp, and am still pretty much a novice. I figured that it would last me for at least a couple of years before I outgrew it, but that just wasn't the case. I find it very difficult to find a good tone, and those that are decent seem very noisy to me. If you have an ear for good tone, don't waste your money on this like I did; spend the extra for a small tube amp.
Plenty of features, almost too many though. Most of the amp and effects models don't sound that great in my opinion. The tuner is useless and inaccurate, don't expect to rely on it.
Quality seems fine, but not wonderful. I doubt it would hold up to much abuse.
Wish that I had spent more and picked up a small tube amp instead (something I will be doing soon).

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

The amp has great features and a quality sound. It
loves to be played loud and you don't need to carry all those stomp boxes around.
I wish there was an external feed, but placing a high quality mic in front that's insulated from stage sounds will do the trick. Besides, I once lost a good amp from a power surge by being
plugged directly into a stage sound system.
And get the foot switch as soon as possible. It makes this so much more fun and adds loads of features.

i have a line 6 ax212 combo amp and its amazing and i just got this amp and it give it a run for the money and sound it gets super loud at 6 it has soo many diffrent opitions to use with it but the only problem some people have with modeling amps is not being able to use your stomp boxes and effects well you dont need those with this amp it has all that you could need. but i wish it had a external speaker output on it so i will get one put in on it so i can have a half stack with it. but as i digress its an amazing amp and you should get it. oh also the sanpera pedal is a must!

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I dont want to be completely one sided. I brought a student guitarist to a Store to buy a Line 6 Spider 3 15 watt. (For his budget this amp probably had the best tone and features in it's price range) I was introduced to the Peavey Vypyr by a sales rep.I liked the fact that it had a built in tuner on a 15 watt model and more storable user preset banks. It sounded pretty good in the store. However! the construction is comparable or even worse than a a behringer guitar amplifier. Try turning up the 15 watt to a respectable practice volume level. (meaning a level of 2 or 3) It sounds terrible and gets worse the more you turn it up. within one week it started to hiss, then the volume output went south (and no it was not a cable 3 quality cables were tried and tested). I was told that this amp was the answer to the line 6 spider 3 series. The Spider 3 is a MUCH better amp. The Peavey has since been returned and exchanged for the Spider 3 15w. Maybe this particular one was just a lemon. Maybe it's just a quality control issue. The concept of the amp itself is AWESOME. Why they would want to throw away a great idea to poor attention to QC tells me that they are out to make a quick buck, and dont really care about there long term reputation. I have had ALOT of trouble with Peavey solid state amps. I highly recommend that you go and try one and test it thoroughly! and make sure the store you buy it from has a great return policy. Who Knows YOU may just LOVE it, but investigate carefully!

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I bought this at my local shop. The store owner said the only problems he has experienced is the processor, and if it failed just bring it back and get another one.So I did. Initially very fun to play with. I ordered the sanpera I which took forever to get. But before it arrived, the processor started copying channels instead of switching them. For example, I would try to go from my preset Bank A channel 1 to my preset Bank A channel 2 and channel 2 would overwrite and be the same as channel 1. Annoying. So the footswitch arrives and everything worked ok on that except if you manually change one of the effects on the amp, when you change channels on the amp, that same effect would stick. The only way to get it to turn off was to turn it off and on. The footswitch was supposed to have a universal wah (push 3 & 4 simultaneously) which also activates the looper function. Looper came on but wah never worked. Pedal only worked for volume control which most of the time is useless.I never rip on anything. It might work great for you. I didn't want to go to the shop all the time exchanging it so i traded him for a Line 6 JM4 Looper. That thing is fun.

I'm a beginner and don't have much experience with any other amps, so I can't comment much on the sound of this amp.HOWEVER!What I will say is, browse some guitar forums and do your homework! There are a LOT of people having trouble with these amps malfunctioning. I've had mine under two weeks and I'm having problems.I have to turn it on and off over and over before it will finally turn on and work. Sometimes I just say forget it and try it later.Peavey has been around a long time and I'm sure their other products are fine, but they really dropped the ball on quality control with the Vypyrs.I also wouldn't recommend this amp for beginners like myself, since the wide array of amp models, effects & stompboxes is kind of overwhelming.

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I've had this amp for a while now. I've been around and I have to say that this amp really sucks. It has absolutely no low end punch. It does have plenty of gain but I do not like the gain tone. I play metal and have an amp I use regularly. I bought this because I'm married and have kids. I wanted something not as loud as the amp I have. I thought I could get this amp and take it to the basement and jam. The knobs are loose. All of them. they feel like they could fall off at anytime. The pedal didn't work and I had to send it back. I didn't even get another one. I used peavey amps back in the 80's such as the bandit 65, and some other peaveys. I have never been so disappointed in an amp. I will never buy another peavey. I use Randall tube amps. They rock, sealed back, lots of gain and low end. I use Jackson and ESP guitars. It's the amp that doesn't work for me. This is just my opinion. There is no best anything. It is simply a matter of style and opinion. What one likes.

Honestly, this is a great amp. It sounds amazing for how small it is, it's rather cheap, and has many different features to play around with. It's also has a decent volume to it. But I've discovered that if you turn it up all the way, it may knock the wires loose. Which will cause sounds to short out (an easy problem to fix, but for an item of this price, it's a problem that should not occur.)But overall the Amp is good, and worth spending the money on.

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I am a pro player that gigs weekly and I currently use a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe Reverb with the Fender Extension Cab. I used a Marshall JCM2000 50 watt head and a 1960A cab for years. I have also used a Fender Deluxe 65 re-issue and a 65 Fender Twin re-issue. Every one of those amps were WAY too loud for the small bars and clubs we played. I could never bring myself to use a Transistor amp though, as I could never find one with a big ballsy clean tone...until I tried this amp! I also have owned a 30 watt Line 6 (for a spare) that had a nice distortion, but an unusable clean channel. I sold all of my amps except the hot rod deluxe, and it is going on eBay as soon as I can list it. This little amp ROCKS! PLENTY of volume for a small bar/club 3 piece classic rock band. Keeps up with a drummer just fine. And, IT HAS A GREAT CLEAN TONE! I can e/q this amp to sound better clean than my Hot Rod Deluxe! I could see how some players may prefer the 75watt for $100 more and that's fine. But for me, This is all I need. I use the TWN Clean channel setting (green), Bass at Max, Mid at max, Highs at 12 o-clock,Pre-gain 3/4 ,Post gain 3/4, and set the volume between 6-13 and play with the volume knob on my strat. I use a Boss OD-3 before the amp and wail! There are so many cool other sounds and things to play with it would take you years to try all of them.A couple Caveats: the built in tuner is not all that accurate, and if you want to switch channels you will need to buy one of the foot pedals. I only add distortion for leads and that's it for me, so I won't be buying one of the switching pedals. If you need an inexpensive amp with a 1X12 speaker and a GREAT clean tone, Forget ANYTHING by Marshall, and forget line 6. Most Fender transistor amps sound bad as well. BUY THIS AMP!

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

This amp is great. I can get a super clean tone with tones of bottom end, or some raging distortion perfect for drop C palm muting. Some of the effects seem pretty useless and redundant (2 chorus effects, 2 flange, 2 octave types, reverse, etc), but the different amp models make you forget about adding any effects. I especially like the fact that you can have reverb and delay on at the same time. Some other small amps don't let you do that. There are a lot of knobs and options, but as Peavey put it, "What you see is what you get". There is really no need to read the manual. Just tinker around and it's easy to figure out each feature. The only thing I don't like is the input jack, and some of the knobs feel a little wobbly, that's why I gave it a 4.0 for quality.Check out the forums for the Vypyr series at Peavey.com to find even more details about this amp.

Comments about Peavey Vypyr 30 30W 1x12 Guitar Combo Amp:

I tried this thing side by side with a Line 6/Bogner 50W 1x12 amp and this thing is a totler toy compared to the Line-6. I'm a tube amp guy, but have respect for some solid state amps too. The distortion on this amp is the sonic equivilent to a mange-stricken pug dog with a bad case of the s****. I do admit that its got good cleans though. The effects on this thing don't even come close to the line 6 and you can't adjust them like you can on the line 6. This amp is good if you are a beginner and have limited funds, but not for a serious musician. You yourself a favor and get the line 6.

I have tried many different tube amps and this one just about beats them. Kind of nerve racking at first, but I read the manual and it became very simple to edit. The amps are great but it really sticks out with the effects . There are many effects I had never used before like a MOG and a ring modulater but they were all great. I recommend this amp to anybody.
